Beetlejuice (Beetlejuice 2)

Continuation to the 1988 Tim Burton-directed hit starred Michael Keaton as a ghoul hired by a recently deceased couple to drive the new owners out of their house. Burton and Keaton made the movie while they were working on the studio’s first Batman film, which was released the following year.

Exclusive: ‘Gremlins’ Reboot Has Seth Grahame-Smith Snacking After Midnight!

Here’s a late snack after midnight that will turn you into an angry little creature.

Bloody Disgusting has exclusively learned that Warner Bros. is officially moving ahead with a remake of Amblin’s 1984 Gremlins, instead of the long gestured sequel.

While a hunt is on for a director, Seth Grahame-Smith has been tapped to produce alongside David Katzenberg. Smith wrote Dark Shadows for Tim Burton, and recently completed his draft for the studio’s next Beetlejuice. He also penned Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for Fox.

The original holiday classic was directed by Joe Dante and followed a boy, played by Zach Galligan, who inadvertently breaks 3 important rules concerning his new pet Mogwai and unleashes a horde of malevolent mischievous monsters on a small town.

No word if Smith will also write this new take on the Steven Spielberg-produced Gremlins. READ MORE

Has Seth Grahame-Smith Completed the ‘Beetlejuice 2′ Screenplay?

It was announced last year that Warner Bros. Pictures would be working with Tim Burton on a continuation to the 1988 Tim Burton-directed hit Beetlejuice, which starred Michael Keaton as a ghoul hired by a recently deceased couple to drive the new owners out of their house.

Seth Grahame-Smith, who took a stab at Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Dark Shadows, was hired to pen the screenplay for the “sequel.” He took to Twitter this morning to tease the following image; a Beetlejuice action figure standing in front of a computer screen with with the subtitle “It’s showtime…” teasing below. The figure, I suppose, is standing in front of the completed screenplay? News soon, I hope.

Burton and Keaton made the movie while they were working on the studio’s first Batman film, which was released the following year. READ MORE

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D

The story revolves around the president’s quest to rid the world of vampires, presented as part of the conflict behind the Civil War.

Seth Grahame-Smith’s revision of a Jane Austen classic explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.

ALVH-080 - Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) examines his vampire-hunting weapon of choice, a specially crafted axe.

[BD Review] Action-Packed ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Suffers From Weak Script & Character Development

I was extremely excited for Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D, his historical retelling in theaters tomorrow from Twentieth Century Fox. The film brings a unique vision to theaters, a rare original idea surrounded by franchise sequels and remake (although, I guess you can argue that “Abraham Lincoln” is a name brand). Anyways, the movie wasn’t as good as I had hoped. Benjamin Walker looks cool, but Seth Grahame-Smith has no idea what the real Honest Abe was like. The characters are faceless, the script is a mess, and the movie looks like absolute dog shit. It looks terrrrrrible. With that said, it’s still pretty fun (at times) and features some great action sequences. 3-D is fake.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is kind of fun, but wholly forgettable. It’s the kind of movie you see just to get out of the brutal summer heat by enjoying the theater’s cool air conditioning. The main problem with the film is twofold, beginning with the tone of both the script and Honest Abe… And while the character development and screenplay are a complete mess, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, at times, is an incredibly interesting movie. The flick features some brilliant CGI work, incredible choreography, and even the vampires look dope.

Red Band Trailer For ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Is Better Than The Other Ones!

Abraham Lincoln Banner52112 Red Band Trailer For Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Is Better Than The Other Ones!

Twentieth Century Fox’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the Timur Bekmambetov-directed historical retelling of our 16th President that was penned by up-and-coming genre madman Seth Grahame-Smith, is finally heading into the top gears of its pre release publicity cycle. A red band trailer was issued to IGN today that kicks up the mayhem – and gore – several notches. It’s still pretty heavy on the CG – and I still hate the look of CG blood – but if you can get past that this may be a fun ride. We’ll see.

Dark Shadows

The original followed the life of vampire Barnabas Collins, played by Depp, and his run-ins with various monsters, ghosts, and supernatural creatures.

The story focuses on Barnabas Collins (Depp), who was transformed into a vampire by a jilted lover (Eva Green’s witch Angelique) way back in the 1700s and buried. He’s just been dug up, and attempts to reintegrate with his descendants, led by Michelle Pfeiffer’s Elizabeth and Jonny Lee Miller’s Roger – despite the fact that Angelique is still around and still not in a forgiving mood.

[Interview] Seth Grahame-Smith On Crafting ‘Dark Shadows’ With Tim Burton And Johnny Depp, ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ And ‘Beetlejuice 2′

Warner Brothers’ new release Dark Shadows hits theaters at the end of the week. Johnny Depp, Jackie Earle Haley, Bella Heathcote, Cloe Moretz, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Thomas McDonell, Gulliver McGrath and Jonny Lee Miller all star. The film is of course directed by Tim Burton.

Earlier in the week I had the chance to sit down with the film’s screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith to talk about working with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp to distill this soap opera from the 1970′s into something more attuned to today’s big screen experience. We also touched on future projects Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Beetlejuice 2. As for Unholy Night and Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, we only had so much time so I had to drop those from the conversation.

Seth Grahame-Smith Says ‘Beetlejuice 2′ Is A Straight Sequel, Other Characters Possibly Returning

BeetleJuice40912 Seth Grahame Smith Says Beetlejuice 2 Is A Straight Sequel, Other Characters Possibly Returning

I met up with writer Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Pride, Prejudice And Zombies) today at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills to talk about Dark Shadows. While he’s made a name for himself with his novels and has several high-profile screenplay credits on the horizon, it’s his first major release as a screenwriter. We had a nice long chat about the film, the bulk of which will be hitting later this week. But I figured I’d go ahead and share his update on Beetlejuice 2 with you guys. It’s not too much different than updates he’s offered in the past, though things seem to be progressing – and he’s acknowledging that some other favorite characters may return.

I have to ask, what’s that status of Beetlejuice 2?

The status is everyone’s waiting for me to get off my ass. I’ve met with Michael Keaton about it, I’ve met with Tim [Burton] about it. Warner Brothers is obviously eager. But right now the ball’s in my court to sort of crack the story that will make it worth of doing this again. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it to you. I don’t want to have to look fans in the face and apologize for making a bad Beetlejuice movie, because it’s one of my favorite movies. And I don’t want to make anything just because I can. I don’t think Tim would participate [with those motives in mind] and I certainly know Michael wouldn’t. If we get something worthy…

Any chance of Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis or Winona Ryder’s characters returning?

It’s all possible. In terms of the story, however many years that are between the two films will be the amount of years that are between the two story lines. It’s not a reboot or a remake, it’s a straight sequel with Michael Keaton returning as Beetlejuice.

Check back later in the week for the rest of the interview. Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz and Helena Bonham Carter. It opens this Friday, May 8th.

Twentieth Century Fox has just now released a new Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D featurette that features interviews with producer Tim Burton, director Timur Bekmambetov and writer Seth Grahame-Smith for the forthcoming historical retelling in theaters June 22.

Seth Grahame-Smith Offers Updates On ‘Beetlejuice 2′, ‘Unholy Night’, And ‘Night Of The Living’

BeetleJuice40912 Seth Grahame Smith Offers Updates On Beetlejuice 2, Unholy Night, And Night Of The Living

Seth Grahame-Smith is, to say the least, a busy guy. His revision of the birth of Jesus and the three wise men, “Unholy Night”, is published tomorrow. He also wrote Dark Shadows for Tim Burton and adapted his book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for Timur Bekmambetov. But that doesn’t mean we won’t write the screenplays for Unholy Night, Beetlejuice 2 and a new project called Night Of The Living in quick succession.

He told the Hollywood Reporter, “‘Night of the Living’ is an idea I have had around for years that I’m doing with Tim Burton. When we were shooting ‘Dark Shadows’ last year I worked up the nerve to tell Tim about it because I always thought it would make a good movie. When I saw what he had done with ‘Frankweenie and Corpse Bride’, it always struck me as a great idea for that form. I’m writing it at Warner’s Bros. for him (as a stop-motion monster movie). As soon I’m done with that draft, I’ll move into ‘Unholy Night’, probably in a matter of weeks. Once we have a script and we’ll get together with David Heyman and the studio, we’ll go looking for a director. The ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel will come after ‘Unholy Night’ in my schedule. The first opportunity to tackle that will probably be later this year.

Smith is actually down the road a bit with Beetlejuice 2, he’s been discussing the project with both Tim Burton and Michael Keaton for a while now so it’s not necessarily a pipe dream. It could happen. While I’m not necessarily fond of the mashups he’s done with “Lincoln” or “Pride, Prejudice And Zombies”, he’s still an unknown quantity as a screenwriter to me. People seem to like working with him, maybe he’s better suited to the screenwriting trade than he is to gimmicky novels.

Teaser Trailer For Seth Grahame-Smith’s ‘Unholy Night’, The Jesus Prequel

UnholyNightLand32912 Teaser Trailer For Seth Grahame Smiths Unholy Night, The Jesus Prequel

Seth Grahame-Smith has been busy mashing things together again. He obviously wrote the book “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and both the novel and screenplay for Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Not to mention writing the adaptation of Dark Shadows for Tim Burton.

His latest is Unholy Night, in which he re-imagines the Three Wise Men as thieves who end up protecting Mary and baby Jesus. Action and hijinks ensue! The book hits April 10th – and already has a trailer. Naturally, there’s a movie in the works as well at Warners. Smith is also penning that script (in case you were wondering).

In short, the book is out in about two weeks. The movie? About two years. Look for it sometime in 2014. Hit the jump to check out the trailer for the book. It’s not too bad as these things go. Of course, I didn’t know that books needed trailers now – so maybe I’m not the one to ask! READ MORE

‘Beetlejuice,’ ‘Beetlejuice,’ ‘Beetlejuice’ For ‘Dark Shadows,’ ‘Vampire Hunter’ Writer!

Rumors of a Beetlejuice sequel have been swirling online since I started the website back in 2001. In fact, at one point a direct-to-video sequel was actually announced. Nothing ever came into fruition, thankfully, as now the studio looks to back a big budget continuation with Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride & Prejudice & Zombies writer Seth Grahame-Smith!

The 1988 Tim Burton-directed hit starred Michael Keaton as a ghoul hired by a recently deceased couple to drive the new owners out of their house. Burton and Keaton made the movie while they were working on the studio’s first Batman film, which was released the following year.

Beetlejuice also starred Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder and Geena Davis. The film will not be a remake, says Deadline; the intention is to reboot it by advancing the storyline of the original, which was done by The Geffen Company and Warner Bros. My understanding is that this would mean Keaton will be replaced as the “Ghost with the most.”
