[TV] Yep! Season 6 Of “True Blood” Gets A Return Date!

Are you ready to go back to Bon Temps? I’m not, but I’m in the minority. Season 6 of “True Blood” is set to start airing on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c.

The series started in 2008, “In a world where vampires have “come out of the coffin”, Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress, discovers a new world of different creatures when she meets Bill Compton, a vampire.

Also joining the HBO smash in Season 6 is acting vet Rutger Hauer (as a mysterious figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason), “Rubicon’s” Arliss Howard (as Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell), “Friday Night Lights” grad Jurnee Smollett-Bell (as do-gooder Nicole), “90210‘s” Amelia Rose Blaire (as Howard’s onscreen daughter), “House‘s” Karolina Wydra (as a badass vamp) and All The Boys Love Mandy Lane‘s Luke Grimes as James, a Jim Morrison style vampire. A Hilarious Look At The Sex Lives Of Our Favorite Video Game Characters

We don’t often think about it, but video game characters have needs. You can only invest so much of your life into saving the world, defeating bosses, and solving puzzles, so it’s understandable that Lara Croft, Mario, and even the Tetris blocks have sexual appetites that need satisfying. Comedy website Golden Moustache has offered an insightful and thought provoking look into the sexual lives of some of our favorite video game characters.

Who am I kidding — the first scene has Mario giving Peach his mushroom as Luigi watches from the corner of the room. The best part is that might be one of the classier scenes. Check it out after the jump!

[SXSW '13] NSFW Trailer For ‘Kiss Of The Damned’ Does The Blood, Sex And Vampires Thang

I kind of like the lava lamp swagger and 70′s titles to this. Magnolia Pictures has just released the red band trailer from writer/director Xan Cassavetes’ Kiss of the Damned, which plays next month’s SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

In the film, “Beautiful vampire Djuna tries to resist the advances of human screenwriter Paolo, but eventually gives in to their passion. When her sister Mimi comes to visit, Djuna’s love story is threatened, and the whole vampire community becomes endangered…” Joséphine de la Baume, Milo Ventimiglia, Roxane Mesquida, Anna Mouglalis, Michael Rapaport, Riley Keough and Ching Valdes-Aran star.

Kiss Of The Damned will be available on iTunes/On Demand March 28, 2013, and in theaters May 3, 2013. The VERY NSFW trailer can be found inside! READ MORE

TV: Awww! Watch Alan Ball Say Goodbye To “True Blood”!!

HBO just aired the last episode of “True Blood”‘s Fifth Season, “Save Yourself”, last night. Not only did it mark the last episode of the season, it marked creator Alan Ball’s last episode as the series’ showrunner. Now we have a video (which apparently aired before last night’s episode) of his goodbye to the show.

Listen, I’ve been fairly vocal about the fact that I’m not a huge “True Blood” fan. I was okay with parts of the first season along with parts of the second. I liked what I saw of this season (I think I saw 4 episodes this year) more than whatever was happening with the show last year but ultimately couldn’t bring myself to like it as much as some of you guys do. It’s just not my thing.

That being said – respect. Ball really did create something special here. As much as it’s just not for me – it resonates with a huge amount of people and there’s something to be said for that. It’s a tricky thing to pull off for one year, let alone five. And Ball’s prior show, Six Feet Under, is one of my all time favorite programs – so I know I’ll at least be tuning in to check out whatever he does next. I’m legitimately excited to see what he comes up with next.

Godspeed, Alan Ball. At least you gave me Jessica. Head inside for the video. READ MORE

How Much Sex, Blood And Violence Is In ‘Nurse 3D’? A LOT!

Today I spoke at length with director Doug Aarniokoski about his upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller The Day and, while I’ll be sharing my full interview with him next week closer to that film’s release, I figured I’d go ahead and let you in on some juicy tidbits he dropped regarding Nurse 3D.

We’ve shown you some tantalizing imagery from the film (which stars Paz De La Huerta, Katrina Bowden, Corbin Bleu, Boris Kodjoe, Dita Von Teese, Adam Herschman, Neal McDonough, Niecy Nash and Nick Turturro), and now we have a rundown on exactly how crazy it is.

When I asked him what he was surprised to have gotten away with on the film he answered, “The amount of sexuality and combined violence. It was really [nuts]. It’s that kind of movie where you’re like, “how can I portray this and get away with it?” It was about bringing it to the screen in a way that was engaging, erotic, dangerous, scary, nasty and brutal all at the same time. That was the dance for me.

The Day is fast approaching its release (via Anchor Bay/WWE Studios) on August 29th. Head inside for some more Nurse 3D talk (and beware of the NSFW poster)! READ MORE

TV: [Next On] The Year’s Second To Last Episode Of “True Blood”…”Sunset”

After airing “Gone, Gone, Gone” (episode #58 of “True Blood”‘s fifth season) tonight, HBO looks forward to the final two episodes of the season, the first of which airs next week. Episode #59 airs on August 19th and is called “Sunset” and, being the penultimate episode of the season, looks to be fairly action packed. I don’t regret ceasing my viewership of the show, but I can see why some of you guys dig it.

Slipping further into religious fervor, Bill (Stephen Moyer) gives Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) an order she’s loath to carry out. Armed with a damning video of Russell (Denis O’Hare) and Steve (Michael McMillian), the military delivers an ultimatum to the Authority. Claude (Giles Matthey) and Maurella (Kristina Anapau) take Sookie (Anna Paquin) to meet the faerie elder, who may know something about an ancient family secret. Alcide (Joe Manganiello) reconnects with his father; Sam (Sam Trammell) and Luna (Janina Gavankar) hitch a rideinto the Authority.

TV: [Next On] Three Clips, Including A “Bloody Romance”, Tease This Week’s Episode Of “True Blood”

Starting this Sunday, HBO looks ahead to the final three episodes of “True Blood”‘s fifth season with episode #58 “Gone, Gone, Gone.” They’ve just released a clip, and given that I haven’t seen the show since this season’s fourth episode, it seems that things have gotten even freakier with this blood smeared slow dance. There’s also a slightly less interesting clip,“We Meet Again”, but it includes my fave Jessica so I’m tossing it in anyway. Oh whoops – as I’m typing this another one just popped up! It’s called “Unexpected Guest”. Let me know what happens!

With vampire-on-human attacks increasing, the Authority attempts to woo public favor. Meanwhile, Nora (Lucy Griffiths) tries to convert Eric to Lilith’s gospel. Jason finds a mysterious scroll; Elijah (Keram Malicki-Sanchez), the new vampire sheriff of Area 5, pushes Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Tara (Rutina Wesley) to obey a new mandate; Sam (Sam Trammell) and Luna (Janina Gavankar) search for Emma (Chloe Noelle); Russell (Denis O’Hare) seeks a higher calling.Written by Alexander Woo; directed by Scott Winant.

TV: [Next On] “True Blood” Episode #57, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”

Tonight, HBO aired a preview from the upcoming 57th episode of “True Blood”, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Like I said last week, I made it about 4 episodes in before I had to pull the plug on the season. You know what I want to see? A spinoff about Jessica. It’s not like I’ve watched every episode of the show (not claiming to be an expert) – but she seems like the most fleshed out character to me. If they could create a show that focussed on her instead of Sookie and Bill, and turned down the camp a little bit, that might be more fun.

In episode #57, “As the Authority proceeds with Lilith’s plan, Eric plots his escape. Gran directs Sookie to a clue to her parents’ murderer. Andy and Jason search for leads to the identities of the people behind the shifter killings. Alcide recalls his pack induction; Arlene gets caught in Terry and Patrick’s crossfire; Steve gets a new pet.

TV: Two New Clips From “True Blood” Episode #56, Somebody I Used To Know

HBO has released two new clips from the upcoming 56th episode of “True Blood”, “Somebody I Used To Know.” They are respectively titled “Glimmer Of Hope” and “What Happened?” Which is something I’d like to know. I tried to follow this season for you guys – I really did. I made it about 4 episodes in before I had to pull the plug. I get why a lot of people like it, but they must see something in it that I can’t.

In episode #56, “At Authority headquarters, the Chancellors revel in the afterglow of recent events; Eric gets a message from Godric; Bill is shaken by a distant memory. Helped by Claude and his sisters, Sookie and Jason visit the site of their parents’ deaths, with shocking results. An emotional Luna tries to walk in Sam’s shoes. Hoyt’s new pals bring him a present; Lafayette leads a séance to purge a curse; J.D. ups the stakes of his fight with Alcide.

Hey Guys! What’s Your Favorite Slasher Movie?

While I love all the permeations of horror to varying degrees (supernatural, hauntings, werewolves, zombies, J-horror etc…), slashers are probably my favorite sub-genre. While I can occasionally get myself in the headspace of being frightened by a poltergeist or work up enough suspension of disbelief to get on-edge during a zombie film, slashers require me to do a lot less mental projection in order to go along for the ride.

Why? Because I’m afraid of real people chasing me through the woods with knives. While it’s of course an extremely unlikely event, it’s still something of a possibility. I consider home-invasion films a branch of the slasher genre for this very reason. The reason I lock my door every night? I’m taking an active step (or empty gesture) against someone entering my home and dismantling me. It’s a far bigger concern to me than my residence being built on an ancient burial ground (though I’ll let you know if that changes the next time I move).

I also think I love slashers the most because of the nostalgia factor. They remind me of simpler times. The fact that they’re typically in rural settings holds them in stark contrast to my daily life in the city. Many of them are downright relaxing and comforting to watch in the moments when someone isn’t getting killed. Of course this is part of the point – something evil infiltrating something idyllic. It also doesn’t hurt that the 80′s were the heyday of the slasher film (obviously Scream aren’t Halloween rural or from the 80′s. But they exude a charming small town optimism that I like). I know many people who considered that era a dark time, but its cinematic depiction in these films is positively utopian compared to our current reality. Plus, there’s usually sex. That always helps.

To that end I ask, “what’s your favorite slasher film?” Mine changes daily, actually. I know that when I did my Friday The 13th Rankings I pegged Part 6 as my favorite entry in the franchise. Oddly enough I feel that Jason Lives doesn’t feel like much of a slasher to me tonally. So I’m going to keep it in the family, but go with Friday The 13th Part 2 as my favorite slasher under the criteria discussed above. Again, this changes all the time. Halloween is obviously a much, much MUCH better film, but I’m in a rural mood today.

What about you? Does your favorite slasher change day-to-day like mine does? Or is it consistently your favorite?

TV: [Next On] Are You Ready For “True Blood” Tonight? Here’s Five More Episode Summaries From The Upcoming Season

Update: Now with a visual aid (aka a trailer for the “Weeks Ahead”) included above!

A lot of you guys have been waiting almost a year for this. “True Blood” returns to HBO Tonight – June 10 at 9 PM ET/PT. The show’s fifth season will contain 12 episodes and will be the last season of the program overseen by show runner Alan Ball. Earlier we had the summaries for the first three episodes of the season, and now synopsis from the five following episodes have hit. That only leaves five hours of the show something of a mystery!

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery, and humor, the Emmy-nominated show takes place at a time when vampires have come out of the coffin and follows the on-and-off romance between waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, and 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Moyer).

TrueBloodFeature40912 TV: Season 5 Of True Blood Finally Gets A Trailer! And Yes, It Looks Insane

HBO’s forthcoming fifth season of “True Blood,” has given us a bunch of behind-the-scenes snippets, but – to my knowledge – no actual footage as of yet. That all changes now with this trailer, which looks pretty nuts to me.

“True Blood” is set to return on Sunday, June 10 at 9/8c. The show’s fifth season will contain 12 episodes and will be the last season of the program to be overseen by show runner Alan Ball. Which I guess means they can throw all logic out the window after that and go totally nuts, right? The show has been so conservative, chaste and predictable while maintaining the upmost adherence to narrative cohesion. I hope they finally get some sex, nudity and blood in the mix.

People Who Listen To Metallica And Nirvana More Likely To Have Sex On First Date

A recent poll conducted by U.K. dating website Tastebuds.fm shows that people who listen to Metallica and Nirvana are far more likely to have sex on the first date, compared to people who listen to Coldplay and Lady Gaga. Well, yeah! I could’ve called that one a mile away! Who wants to bang it out to ‘Speed Of Sound‘ when you can rock out ‘Rape Me‘? Was that in poor taste? Meh, whatever.
