Patrick-TeaserPoster

Patrick (remake)

For three years Patrick has been lying mute and immobile, a patient in Dr Roget’s clinic for the comatose. Dr Roget has been discharging increasingly large doses of electricity into Patrick’s brain, hoping for a sign of brain function. When young nurse Kathy starts working at the clinic, Patrick figures out how to utilise all that pent up power with deadly effect. The redo is a re-imagining of Richard Franklin’s 1970s chiller.

LONG: After killing is mother and her lover some years before, Patrick is the comatose patient in room 15 of a remote, private psychiatric clinic run by the secretive Dr Roget, who treats him as a guinea pig in his bizarre studies of life and death. When Kathy, a nurse who has recently separated from her boyfriend, begins working at the clinic, she is instructed to care for him. She is disturbed by Roget’s treatment of him and somehow feels that Patrick is trying to make a connection with her.

When Kathy realizes that the lifeless murderer can communicate, she is shocked but compelled to prove her theory. Patrick has psychokinetic powers which he uses to talk to Kathy by transferring his thoughts to a computer. As Patrick’s communication becomes stronger, strange and terrifying events begin to occur. Patrick has feelings for Kathy and his affection is about to manifest itself as a deadly, bloody obsession.

Another Viral ‘You’re Next’ Image Haunts Some ‘Peeples’!

We’ve got yet another awesome viral image (via Collider) from the amazing You’re Next (review here), in theaters August 23.

After popping up at a Wedding and on a Temptation Bus Ad, another one of the film’s masked killers has popped up on a poster for Peeples in New York City, defacing yet another perfectly good Lionsgate poster.

Another ‘You’re Next’ Animal Invades Los Angeles Bus Shelter Ad!!

Back on Sunday we told you about the coolest viral campaign we’ve seen all year – Lionsgate had printed bus stop ads for The Big Wedding, only they were invaded by one of the “animals” from their forthcoming slasher You’re Next (review here), in theaters August 23.

While the ads had previously been reported across the New York area, an eagle-eyed reader in Culver City, California confirmed that Los Angeles is also being stalked by the killers from Adam Wingard’s You’re Next! Inside we have an insanely cool bus shelter ad for Tyler Perry’s Temptation that reflects yet another “animal” from the film. It’s unclear how old the Temptation photo is as the movie came out end of March, but these ads must have been up for a while. Lionsgate would not return our calls to comment. Special thanks to Bloody reader “Justin K.” for the the image and news tip!

This ‘You’re Next’ Viral Is The Coolest Thing I’ve Seen All Year!!

Update: Another bus shelter ad was spotted in Los Angeles! Lionsgate has just won the year with their absolutely ingenious viral campaign for Adam Wingard’s You’re Next (review), which opens in theaters August 23.

While we’re unaware of how many cities partook, Los Angeles and New York bus stops reportedly carry displays for Lionsgate’s upcoming comedy, The Big Wedding, which reflect one of the “animals” from the hotly anticipated slasher You’re Next!!

Looking at the following image, I can’t tell of there’s an actual reflection or if Lionsgate “printed” the animal on the top layer of the Big Wedding poster; either way, what you’ll see inside is pretty haunting and beyond eye-catching. Take a look and marvel at the brilliance behind Lionsgate’s marketing department. What do ya’ think?

The ‘You’re Next’ Trailer Is Here! And It’s Worth The Wait!!!

It’s funny – a March 28th trailer release for a movie that comes out on August 23rd is still fairly early. At least it’s not late late. Yet, because Lionsgate’s You’re Next has been anticipated for so long (due to the Summit/Lionsgate merger, not due to quality), it feels like it’s been an eternity. A lot of you have been asking us for the trailer for 18 months… so we’re just as stoked as you are that it’s finally here. And it’s great! I dig how the trailer sells the suspense and horror of the film without giving anything else away – there’s still a lot you haven’t seen (it’s relatively spoiler free in that regard). I also dig the moment when the chorus of “Perfect Day” comes back into the mix. From what I gather this is just the beginning of a pretty big marketing push.

[SXSW '13 Interview] Director Adam Wingard On Making ‘You’re Next’ And His Plans For ‘The Guest’ And ‘Dead Spy Running’!

Lionsgate’s You’re Next screened over the weekend to a packed crowd at this year’s SXSW Festival and, after 18 months of praise, everyone seemed to agree that the film lived up to the hype. One of the reasons behind the film’s creative success is Adam Wingard‘s incredibly assured hand as a director. I’ve always been fond of his work, but You’re Next is unlike anything else currently on his resume – a taut, crowd-pleasing horror film that has a uniquely addictive energy. I sat down with him after the screening to talk about the film’s violence and his approach towards making it feel huge.

[SXSW '13 Interview] Sharni Vinson On The Late Nights Of ‘You’re Next’!

Lionsgate’s You’re Next screened over the weekend to a packed crowd at this year’s SXSW Festival. While it was my third time seeing the film (which gets better with every viewing), it was the first time I’d seen it with a big audience and I wasn’t anticipating just how much of a crowd pleaser it would actually be. One of the most important components to that success is the performance Sharni Vinson delivers as Erin, the highly capable protagonist. I sat down with her the morning after the screening to talk about her role and the fact that she flourished during a shoot that many found exhausting.

[BD Review] ‘Bait’ Is Kind Of What You Expect It To Be

Reviewed by Michael Ferraro

Take a good look at the cover of this Blu-ray the next time you are anywhere you can find it. There is a picture of a shark swimming next to a shopping cart, with what appears to be a severed leg floating by, with this fantastic slogan right above it: Cleanup on Aisle 7. You may not be able to judge books by their covers, but for movies, the complete opposite can be said.

Bait 3D follows Josh (Xavier Samuel), who is still grieving after his best friend, Rory, is eaten by sharks during his lifeguard shift. Tina (Sharni Vinson), Rory’s sister, was about to become engaged to Josh the day of the incident and since then, her and Josh have parted ways.

During the year that passes since Rory’s death, Josh takes a job at a local shop where he stocks shelves. Conveniently (in terms of plot), Tina shows up out of nowhere with her new beau, Steven. At the same time, Doyle (Julian McMahon) is forced by an unknown man to pull a robbery on the store, which then creates a hostage situation.

Tragically, a tsunami suddenly hits the area and floods the somewhat underground store, leaving everyone inside trapped. But who finds their way inside the store too? A pair of great white sharks with an insatiable hunger for human flesh.

This is the first directorial effort by Kimble Rendall, who served mostly as a second unit director in such films as the second and third Matrix entries, Knowing, and Ghost Rider. Now, don’t pop in Bait expecting anything new with the genre. If anything, it’s a few steps higher than those oddly titled Shark films developed specifically for the home video crowd. Let’s face it, it’s certainly no Jaws. Jaws 3D maybe, but Julian McMahon is no substitute for Louis Gossett, Jr.

The disc contains the bare minimum of features; actually it includes only one: a storyboard gallery. The film was surprisingly co-written by Russell Mulcahy (Highlander, Resident Evil: Extinction), and it would have been nice to have him lend his voice to a commentary to hear his thoughts on the shark genre and what inspired him to write this picture without directing.

Still, though it is predictable at every turn, some of the deaths are rather creative; it’s not like you’re watching Bait for anything other than that. Without spoiling too much, the film does end with way too many survivors. It’s not like it doesn’t have its share of death, because it does, but there are some characters you kept wishing to depart that just never do.

Producers Hope To ‘Bait’ You Into More Shark Horror

Twitch reports that Arclight Films has announced a sequel to the Australian shark-in-a-supermarket thriller Bait, directed by Kimble Rendall, and starring Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Sharni Vinson, Phoebe Tonkin, Martin Sacks, Alice Parkinson, Alexander Russell, Qi Yuwu, Adrian Pang, Lincoln Lewis and Damien Garvey.

In Bait, “When a monstrous freak tsunami hits a sleepybeach community, a group of survivors from different walks of life find themselves trapped inside a submerged grocery store. As they try to escape to safety, they soon discover that there is a predator among them more deadly than the threat of drowning—vicious great white sharks lurking in the water, starved hungry for fresh meat. Lionsgate Schedules Hotly Anticipated ‘You’re Next’ For August 2013

[Interview] AJ Bowen On Mixing Genres In ‘Rites Of Spring’, Considering Found Footage And Laughing At Joe Swanberg In ‘You’re Next’

Writer/director Padraig Reynolds’ mixed genre kidnapping slasher/creature feature Rites of Spring plays kind of like a modern day From Dusk Till Dawn in that it totally switches gears midway through (not a spoiler, the film tips its hat to this early on). Of course, there aren’t any vampires and the film is much more serious than that early Tarantiono/Rodriguez collaboration. An early kidnapping segment really struck me with its unflinching brutality, as did some of the film’s more “sacrificial” moments. Rites stars AJ Bowen (The Signal, House of the Devil, A Horrible Way to Die, Hatchet 2, You’re Next) who plays embattled kidnapper Ben Geringer.

I recently hopped on the phone with Bowen to chat about how his character in Rites was a welcome break from some of the more thoroughly evil types he’s played. We also talked about his upcoming film Silent Night Of The Living Dead as well as the status of You’re Next. Oh, and we find out if he’s reconsidered his longstanding aversion to doing a found footage film.

In the film, “A group of kidnappers abduct the daughter of a wealthy socialite and hide out in an abandoned school on the edge of town. But feelings of guilt soon overtake the kidnappers, dividing the group and putting their entire plan in jeopardy. The evening further spirals out of control when their poorly chosen hideout becomes a hunting ground for a mysterious creature that requires springtime ritualistic sacrifices.” The creature, “Wormface”, was designed by Aaron Sims (A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child, Wrong Turn, The Mist, I Am Legend, Clash of the Titans, The Thing).

IFC Midnight releases Rites Of Spring July 27 on VOD and in limited theaters. Head inside for the interview! READ MORE
