Garbage Is Back in the Studio after a 4 Year Hiatus

It’s been 4 years since Garbage released their last studio album, Bleed Like Me. Just after the Grammy’s, singer Shirley Manson teased via Facebook , “Guess who I just spent a week in the studio with?” Manson wrote, before adding, “Would you be pleased if I said one of them was called Steve and one of them was called Duke and another was a Grammy-winning producer?” Which leads the fans to assume she would be referring to her Garbage bandmates, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig. Vig is best known for his work as a Producer, having helmed Nirvana’s Nevermind and Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream.

Garbage broke onto the scene in 1995 with their self-titled debut which went Double Platinum (2 million) in the U.S. alone, going on to sell over 5 million worldwide. They had success with singles like “Only Happy When It Rains” and “Stupid Girl” as well as offering up an unreleased song “#1 Crush” to Baz Luhrman’s Romeo + Juliet in 1996. The band announced an indefinite hiatus in 2005 after the release of Bleed Like Me, saying they had not broken up but wanted to pursue other personal and creative interests. While Vig returned to producing, Manson worked on a solo album which has yet to see release. She has however started an acting career. In 2008 she appeared in the second and final season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as Catherine Weaver, a T-1001 Terminator.
