While I wish Sony Screen Gems would just reboot the francise without Paul W.S. Anderson (and stick it in the elusive mansion where the franchise belongs), it’s hard to be disappointed with new imagery featuring the ultra-sexy Milla Jovovich as Alice, who returns once again in Resident Evil: Retribution on September 14.

In the new image we see Alice taking aim (again). We’re still waiting on a hi-res version of Alice kicking a zombie in the face so you can quickly make it your background.

In the latest entry, “The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. Milla Jovovich, star of Resident Evil: Retribution, will be participating in a live global streaming webchat leading up to the launch of the film’s trailer on Thursday, June 14th at 11:00am EDT. Fans at home can log on to that same Facebook page to watch the Q&A live; the event is being translated into ten languages worldwide. Fans can also submit their questions online at Facebook for a chance to get it answered live by Milla. The full trailer will be posted after the webchat on the film’s official site.

And the event now has a teaser, which you can check out below. It’s only 17 seconds, so any new footage will be slight! Also – weigh in! Do you think trailers should have teasers? Or are you fine just waiting?

Paul W.S. Anderson Talks Resident Evil 6, Films Producers Discuss A Prequel!

I was recently on set for Sony Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Retribution in Toronto, a visit in which there was ample opportunity to talk with much of the film’s cast and crew (full report coming soon). While most of the conversation centered around the most recent installment’s returning cast members and globetrotting narrative, there was one inevitable topic that kept arising – the future of the franchise.

The Resident Evil franchise is one of the lucky few in which the box office grosses just keep going up – and with that trend not looking to die down with the current installment it seems as if it’s (almost) a foregone conclusion that Part 6 will happen. In fact, director Paul W.S. Anderson already has a story in mind (it would be the completion of a trilogy cycle started in Afterlife) and there was even discussion of filming parts 5 and 6 back to back (a discussion which was admittedly abandoned early on).

While there isn’t a script yet, here’s what director Paul W.S. Anderson had to say on the matter. “There was an early discussion about [filming 5 and 6 back to back], but we just decided to focus on this movie. But if we made another one I do know where it would go. And obviously it would be great to do two full trilogies and just bring everything to an end.”

Would the sixth one be a finale then?

“Yes. Definitely. Unless of course no one goes to see this one”.

I’m expecting a pretty huge movie considering how long they’ve been filming Resident Evil: Retribution. And even if it’s the norm for a big budget action-horror flick, it feels like an eternity in covering all of star Milla Jovovich’s tweets and video blogs. This morning she dropped a pretty big bomb via the following lengthy tweet:

“Gmornin every1 where it’s morning! Gevening to all those where it’s evening! There’s a HUGE wire stunt 2day here at camp evil as guess what?! Im not allowed 2 do it! Aargh! It’s a 50 ft. Fly on a wire rig w a flip AND gunfire (sob) to kill a c, but the set is too tight and my incredible stunt double -Jo Anne Leach- has to land in2 crash pads 2 make it and the insurance company and my husband said Absolutely NOT. I’m bummed but there u go. Safety first.the sequence is gonna KILL tho n no matter what Jo is my girl and she’s THE BEST, so trust me when u c it in the film it will b overwhelmingly awe inspiring! That’s my news of the morning. Gotta get hair n make up on.”

When she says “gynormous creature” I can only hope she means “a creature as tall as Godzilla”. After five Resident Evil films, it would be nice to see writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson think outside the box for once. READ MORE

Milla Jovovich, who returns as Alice once again, reveals via Twitter that Chinese actress Li Bingbing (The Forbidden Kingdom) has landed the role of “Ada Wong” in the now-filming Resident Evil: Retribution.

Ada is a cunning and formidable secret agent for the mysterious and powerful group known as “Organization”.

She joins Sienna Guillory, Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Michelle Rodriguez, Johann Urb, Oded Fehr and Kevin Durand in Sony Screen Gems’ fifth Resident Evil film directed by Paul W.S. Anderson from his own screenplay.

In theaters September 14, 2012, Urb plays the leader of the Resistance, who teams with Jovovich’s Alice character as she battles the Umbrella Corporation and the swarm of undead. The group will head to Russia, Japan and Toronto for the shoot.

*Update: An early-morning stage collapse Tuesday on the Toronto set has sent ten crew members and actors to the hospital, says THR. 16 people were injured after a group shifted weight from one platform no another. The Toronto Star newspaper reported that a dozen actors dressed as zombies had been moving across the soundstage platform when it collapsed. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Bloody Disgusting has confirmed ~~is hearing of~~ some pretty exciting news as we’re exclusively being told that Michelle Rodriguez has signed to reprise her role as “Rain Ocampo” in Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Retribution 3D! Rodriguez first took on the role in Anderson’s 2002 live-action adaptation of the video game franchise. Retribution is the fifth film featuring another battle between Alice and Umbrella.

We’ve also learned that Shawn Roberts’ return as Albert Wesker will be in the form of a cameo.

Rodriguez will join Roberts, Milla Jovovich (Alice), Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine), Colin Salmon and Boris Kodjoe.

Filming will take place in Toronto, Japan and Russia, with Sony Screen Gems locking in a September 14, 2012 release in 3D.

Milla Jovovich continues to tweet out cast for the now-filming Resident Evil: Retribution, which shoots in Japan, Toronto and Russia.

She confirms that Shawn Roberts will return as “Albert Wesker” and will be “more badass then ever,” adding that “of course its not so easy to kill him!”

Sienna Guillory and Colin Salmon are the other two confirmed cast members, with Paul W.S. Anderson directing from is own screenplay.

Earlier this month we stated that Sony Screen Gems may recast Jill Valentine in Resident Evil: Retribution, while other news outlets misreported stories claiming Valentine was being omitted from the sequel entirely.

Director and franchise producer Paul W.S. Anderson cares about the franchise’s fans and proved it today having just closed a deal with Sienna Guillory to strap on her zombie stompin’ boots for the 3-D sequel filming later this month in Toronto, Japan and eventually Russia.

Milla Jovovich, who will return as Alice, confirmed the news via Twitter: “i can’t reply right now, but wanted 2 let u all know that Sienna Guillory @guillorybe closed her deal on the new RE movie! we r so excited!!”

She’s excited? How about the entire Resident Evil community?! Now if only Anderson would write Sienna a LARGER ROLE. We want to see Valentine kickin’ some arse! Screen Gems fights Umbrella Corp. once again on September 14, 2012.

Update: I made a few calls and got a juicy piece of insider info that I unfortunately have to leave extremely vague. She may, or may not be back. That is all. The end.

When we broke the news the other day that Milla Jovovich would be returning to star in Sony Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Retribution, we also noted that contrary to Sienna Guillory’s previous Twitter posts, “Jill Valentine’s” role is being recast.

Now, this could be a casting error or it’s even possible they are looking for an older or younger version for some sort of flashback/flash-forward sequence. All I know is that I saw it, with my own two eyes.

Since our report, Guillory took back to Twitter stating “I’m loyal to R.E. always. Don’t know about where the rumors come from. But if they want someone else it’s not up to me!”

We’re doing some extra fact checking to see if we can’t solve this mystery, but I’m siding with the fans on this one: what’s the point of recasting her? I want to see Guillory back at Jill Valentine!

Plot details are under lock and key, but Sony Screen Gems is aiming to have it in theaters come September 14, 2012. An October start date is locked in Toronto and Japan with Paul W.S. Anderson returning to direct.
