Things get even spookier in a second motion image from Summit’s highly anticipated Sinister. In the film arriving in theaters October 12, “Found footage helps a true-crime novelist realize how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity.

[Random Cool] This ‘Sinister’ Mash-Up Might Be A Good Way To Introduce You To ‘Seven Psychopaths’

I love Seven Psychopaths. It’s not horror, it’s a crime comedy. But it is supremely gory. If you remember director Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges you know he doesn’t f*ck around. And, to put it crassly, this movie has a sh*tload more kills than that one (it’s also smart, funny and thoughtful). Thus, I feel like I can wholeheartedly recommend it to you. While it might not be scary, it’s certainly got more of the red stuff than most of the R-rated horror movies that have come out this year. I’ll fill you guys in with my review later this month.

In the meantime, here’s a Sinister mashup trailer to help bridge the gap between this film and something you’re already excited to see.

Head inside for the actual trailer. Seven Psychopaths opens on October 12th. READ MORE

5 Incredibly Unsettling Horror Images

One of Sinister‘s many strengths is its use of unsettling imagery. There are so many quick moments in the film that stick really with you. These moments are so deceptively simple that, on paper, they may not read as being incredibly striking. But their effect on the screen is undeniable. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see the movie, some of the stuff in it is unshakeable!

In sponsored honor of these terrifying and unsettling moments, I’ve decided to comb through my internal horror library in search of some of horror’s most unsettling moments. By no means is this list comprehensive, but I wanted it to be a good starting point to get you guys to share your favorite moments!

[Fantastic Fest '12] Corey Mitchell’s Mini-Reviews: Day 2 – ‘The Conspiracy,’ ‘The Collection,’ ‘Sinister,’ ‘Holy Motors,’ & ‘Cold Blooded’

The 8th annual Fantastic Fest’s 8-day reign of chaos in Austin, Texas is underway. The sci/fi, fantasy, martial arts, Asian fantastic, and horror film festival offers up a little something for all genre lovers.

It is my duty to bring you the most horror and/or horror-related film reviews possible. With less than 20 feature films considered to be true horror, I will occasionally spotlight other non-horror films that will, hopefully, appeal to our readers here at Bloody Disgusting.

Be sure to be on the lookout in Austin, Texas from October 25-27, 2013, for my very own Housecore Horror Film Festival. I will be joined by my partner, former Pantera lead singer and heavy metal legend Philip H. Anselmo. We will be bringing 100% horror and heavy metal to the Lone Star state!

[BD Review] Evan Thinks ‘Sinister’ Delivers On Its Promise

Summit’s Sinister plays Fantastic Fest this weekend (a few weeks ahead of its official release date on October 12th). While my review was heavily mixed on the film (favorable by a hair), Evan Dickson found a lot more to like.

As Ellison makes his way through the tapes, accompanied by copious amounts of whiskey, it’s hard not to be impressed. These images are never less than unsettling and occasionally they’re downright horrific. This is the real coup of the film. Derrickson has touched upon something truly indelible in the construction of these moments. They’re not gory, but they’re unflinching. He lets you see more than most filmmakers do, yet still knows when to pull back at the exact right time required to maximize the intended impact.

A Lot Of ‘Sinister’ Scares In New TV Spot

I’m super perplexed by the marketing campaign for Summit’s Sinister, but not because it’s bad. The imagery released definitely catches the eye, and I’m sure has many of you excited. I saw the movie this past March at the SXSW Film Festival blind, and what was scary about the movie is being shown in all of these trailers and TV Spots. It’s just kind of a bummer that some of the film’s “power” is being taken away in order to sell the product. Anyways, check out the new Spot with lots of Mr. Boogie.

Awesome ‘Sinister’ Posters Spread Blood Across Theater Walls!

Once you see him, nothing can save you.

Lionsgate has spread the blood on the walls of theaters as they’ve unveiled their official one-sheet for their R-rated supernatural spooker Sinister, which opens in theaters October 5. Both the motion poster and standard art carry the above tagline and display a girl spreading blood across a wall. In the blood, a tease of the entity known as “Mr. Boogie.”

Sinister is a frightening new thriller from the producer of the Paranormal Activity films and Scott Derrickson, the writer-director of The Exorcism of Emily Rose. “Ethan Hawke plays a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror.

I caught the film as a surprise screening at this past March’s SXSW. While I wasn’t a huge fan, it’s still pretty f*cking scary.

‘Sinister’ Gets A Bloody Banner Poster

Sinister42012 Sinister Gets A Bloody Banner Poster

Some promo materials for Summit Entertainment’s Sinister (review) are beginning to emerge at this year’s Cinemacon and this creepy banner-style poster smears more blood across its landscape than you might expect. I remember when that much blood would get a poster rejected by the MPAA, but I suppose that’s no longer the case. In any case, it’s pretty nifty.

Directed by The Exorcism of Emily Rose‘s Scott Derrickson, the film stars Ethan Hawke, James Ranson, and Juliet Rylance. Penned by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, “the story follows a journalist who moves his family into a house where another family was murdered. After moving in, he uncovers found footage that leads to clues about the murders.

Sinister hits theaters October 5th, 2012. The poster was first uncovered via Collider. READ MORE
