Amaranthe Stream New Song “Mechanical Illusion”

Swedish/Danish melodic metal band Amaranthe has released a new song entitled “Mechanical Illusion”, which you can stream below. The song comes from the band’s upcoming sophomore album The Nexus, which will be released in the US on Mar. 26th via Spinefarm Records.

Guitarist/composer Olof Mörck comments, “To give a second taster of The Nexus is truly exciting! The first single and title track showed a familiar, yet amped-up AMARANTHE. ‘Mechanical Illusion’ is quite different from what people have heard from us so far. Probably the heaviest track yet, a dystopian vision steeped in a darkened futuristic atmosphere, combined with a mega-catchy chorus that is likely to ring in your head for days. Brace yourselves, the illusion is upon us!

You can also watch the band’s video for “The Nexus”, which was directed by Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Soen, Dimmu Borgir), below. READ MORE

Soen’s ‘Cognitive’ To See Stateside Release This Summer

Prog-metal group Soen will be releasing their debut album Cognitive in the States this summer. The album was originally released last Winter via Spinefarm Records. The 10-track album features some fantastic songs and is well worth checking out if you’re a fan of Tool or Porcupine Tree.

Soen features Martin Lopez (ex-Opeth, Amon Amarth), bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, Testament, Death, Iced Earth), vocalist Joel Ekelöf (Willowtree), and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis. Cognitive was mixed by David Bottrill (Tool, Coheed and Cambria, Silverchair, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse).

Update: The video can be watched here.
Soen, the group formed by ex-Opeth drummer Martin Lopez, has released a video of an acoustic performance of their song Ideate, which comes off their debut album Cognitive (review). The song translates beautifully and the dark, creepy atmosphere of the room really helps set the tone and mood. I’d definitely give this a listen if you’ve got a free three minute block. [Review] Soen ‘Cognitive’

 [Review] Soen Cognitive
When word came that Martin Lopez quit Swedish prog-metal band Opeth, I was stunned. After all, he brought a certain sound and inventiveness that I had come to appreciate and deeply enjoy. But when I heard of his new project Soen, I immediately had high hopes. The description and influences cited were more than enough to pique my interest. This sounded like a project where Lopez could take his skills and only expand on them. And with their debut release Cognitive, Soen aims to enter the progressive metal genre in a huge way.

Ex Opeth Drummers Soen Releases Video For Savia
Soen, the band featuring ex-Opeth drummer Martin Lopez, has released an official video for Savia, which comes off their upcoming debut album Cognitive. Directed by Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Dimmu Borgir), the song definitely has some Tool-esque vibes while dipping its toes into heavier territory. Another song, Delenda, can be heard on their Facebook page. I’m definitely enjoying the songs and I’m really looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. Check out the video below.
