Devin Townsend Covers “Badger, Badger, Badger (Mushroom, Mushroom)”

If you were into huge internet memes about 10 years ago or so then you’ll remember Weebl, the website that had a ton of different looping flash cartoons with absurdly catchy songs. My personal favorites were the original Magical Trevor, Narwhals, and Crabs. But the most popular one, without a doubt, was Badgers. It honestly seemed like I couldn’t go a day without someone posting a link to that flash cartoon on a forum or in a chatroom.

Well, that classic internet video has now received a metal remix thanks to the wildly eccentric Devin Townsend, who posted the track on YouTube yesterday. The drums are courtesy of Soilwork‘s Dirk Verbeuren and the track was recorded during the Deconstruction studio sessions. Check it out below!

What was your favorite Weebl toon? READ MORE

[Album Review] Soilwork ‘The Living Infinite’

When it was announced that Soilwork would be unleashing a double album as their new studio album, the metal world rejoiced. After all, one disc is already a cause for celebration, but two? The Swedish melodic metal master’s ninth studio album The Living Infinite has been one of the most anticipated releases of 2013 by many, even landing on my own list.

One of the things that gave me some trepidation was the loss of guitarist Peter Wichers, who was replaced by David Andersson, who toured with the band in 2006. Also, after the stellar The Panic Broadcast, this album has a great deal to live up to. So now we ask the hard question: does it or have Soilwork fallen short? Find out below! READ MORE

Soilwork Release Official Video For “Rise Above The Sentiment”

Swedish melodic metal band Soilwork have released an official video for “Rise Above The Sentiment”, which comes off their upcoming album The Living Infinite. The Sune Eskelinen & Niclas Lindahl-directed video starts off almost like something out of V/H/S but turns into something much more lighthearted, featuring the band members engaging in various behind-the-scenes activities, including cooking, returning beer cans (a LOT of beer cans), playing chess and backgammon (I’ll totally take any one of them on in backgammon), and more.

The album, which comes out Mar. 5th in the USA via Nuclear Blast Records, is being hailed as the first double album in melodic death metal history and will feature 20 tracks. READ MORE

Soilwork Unveil Album Artwork And Track List For ‘The Living Infinite’

Nuclear Blast Records artist Soilwork have unveiled the album artwork and track list for their upcoming double-album The Living Infinite, which will be released March 5th, 2013. The album was produced by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath) and the artwork was designed by Mnemic‘s Mircea Eftemie Gabriel.

Gabriel shares, “Seven years ago, I created the artwork for the Stabbing The Drama album and I can’t believe how time flies! Here we are, with sexy gray hairs, working with my friends in Soilwork again. This time, we built the cover around a maritime concept, aiming for something direct and symbolic. I believe we achieved that quite well. From my creative deck, I salute you and say: ‘Long Live The Living Infinite.’

The bands states, “After commissioning some pretty elaborate covers for the last couple of records, we decided to try something more sober and design-oriented for The Living Infinite. Who better to call than the man who created the iconic Stabbing The Drama cover? Mircea Gabriel Eftemie is not only a close friend but also an incredible graphic designer. We’re all stoked about his work which is different from anything Soilwork has ever done and perfectly suits the elegant oceanic concept of The Living Infinite. Enjoy folks!

Wacken Open Air 2013 Sold Out Almost A Year In Advance

It’s no secret that the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany is probably the largest metal festival in the world. Drawing in tens of thousands of people from across the globe, this festival brings some of the biggest names in hard rock and metal as well as showing the more underground, extreme acts that people would otherwise have no chance to see.

Now, the 2013 incarnation of this extremely popular festival is officially sold out. Let me rephrase that in a way that should have a mind-blowing effect on you: Wacken Open Air has sold 75,000 tickets almost one year in advance. There is one set price for tickets ($140) and they are sold on a first come, first served basis for the Aug 1st – 3rd festival. Without knowing the full line up for the show, people have spent $140 plus fees and postage. It’s unbelievable but it also says that Wacken is doing something right. They have been selling out the festival for several years now and it looks like there is no sign of them stopping.

Below is a list of bands that are so far confirmed to play at the show (a TON more will be added over the next months, so keep an eye out at the official website to stay up-to-date) READ MORE

Soilwork Post Studio Footage Of Guitar Recording

Soilwork singer Bjorn “Speed” Strid has posted a video of new guitarist David Andersson laying down a guitar track for an as-of-yet untitled song on the upcoming album The Living Infinite. The riffing going on is pretty awesome and encompasses exactly what I’m expecting and hoping for from the release. There’s lots of low-string chugging as well as high-string melodic passages. The video can be seen below.

The Living Infinite, the band’s ninth studio release, will be a double album. Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath) has been tapped as producer and the album will also mark the recording debut of long-time touring guitarist David Andersson (Night Flight Orchestra). More information from Strid can be found here.

The album has an undetermined 2013 release date. READ MORE

Soilwork’s New Album ‘The Living Infinite’ Will Be A Double Album

Swedish melodic death metal band Soilwork have announced that their next studio album The Living Infinite will feature TWO CDs, not one. Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath) has been tapped as producer. The album will also mark the recording debut of long-time touring guitarist David Andersson (Night Flight Orchestra).

Singer Bjorn “Speed” Strid explains, “So here’s the scoop. Me and the boys have been waiting to share this for quite some time now: The Living Infinite will be a double album! A REAL double album, in the true sense of the word, which means no fillers and no left-overs.

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and I proposed the idea to the rest of the guys in the band, during our festival tour last summer. Everybody liked the title The Living Infinite and also the idea of working towards the goal of releasing a double album. David Andersson was already playing with us last summer, so he has also been a part of this goal from the start. I feel very excited and proud that we’ve managed to find the inspiration and dedication it takes to create somewhat of a conceptual double album, especially since it’s dealing with a lot of existential questions.

We would also like to reveal a brand new band shot by Hannah Verbeuren Photography [below]. We are currently hard at work in the studio, putting this beast on tape. Things are sounding incredibly good so far. So excited about this and can’t wait to share the awesomeness with you all!

I was a huge fan of 2010′s The Panic Broadcast so I’m very eager to hear this next album. READ MORE

Also being added into the game is a new underground bunker bar (I’d definitely go to that place for drinks were it real). The tracks will cycle out periodically, making sure that players never get bored of blasting out those tunes.
