It’s no secret that the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany is probably the largest metal festival in the world. Drawing in tens of thousands of people from across the globe, this festival brings some of the biggest names in hard rock and metal as well as showing the more underground, extreme acts that people would otherwise have no chance to see.
Now, the 2013 incarnation of this extremely popular festival is officially sold out. Let me rephrase that in a way that should have a mind-blowing effect on you: Wacken Open Air has sold 75,000 tickets almost one year in advance. There is one set price for tickets ($140) and they are sold on a first come, first served basis for the Aug 1st – 3rd festival. Without knowing the full line up for the show, people have spent $140 plus fees and postage. It’s unbelievable but it also says that Wacken is doing something right. They have been selling out the festival for several years now and it looks like there is no sign of them stopping.
Below is a list of bands that are so far confirmed to play at the show (a TON more will be added over the next months, so keep an eye out at the official website to stay up-to-date) READ MORE
70000 TONS OF METAL will sail Monday, January 24, 2011 aboard the Royal Caribbean “Majesty of the Seas” from Miami FL to Cozumel, Mexico and will not return you to the real world for four days until Friday, January 28, 2011.
Make no mistake, 70000 TONS OF METAL is not your grandma’s cruise. It’s also not one of the cruises that share the ship with normal cruise guests. This is an all heavy metal cruise! Can you imagine that? A whole luxury cruise ship full of metalheads? And since there is no backstage area you will have the opportunity to mingle side-by-side with the artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. It’s like everyone has a backstage pass!
Mutiny Within continue to live their lives on the road, converting one fan at a time to their modern blend of progressive metal the old fashioned way: through lots of touring. It’s going to be incredibly busy spring and summer seasons for the New Jersey band, which released its self-titled debut in February, who will pound the pavement alongside Sonata Arctica, beginning April 2. The tour will run for four weeks. The six-piece will follow up the Sonata Arctica trek with a spate of dates that will be announced imminently, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
Next, the band will join Soilwork on that band’s summer tour, which kicks off July 14 and runs through August 15.
FINNTROLL are back! On March 9th, the band will release its highly anticipated new slab of folk-rooted metal hymns entitled Nifelvind. It was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios (Apocalyptica, Amorphis, Ensiferum) in Helsinki, Finland and mastered by Mika Jussila (Children Of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, HIM) at Finnvox Studios. A savage new video for the track, “Solsagan,” was recently completed and you can view the making of that video now at Youtube. The eye-popping new clip was produced by Vasara Films (Dark Tranquillity, Turisas).
