Tune Into The Roadrunner Records Station While Playing ‘Sleeping Dogs’

Following the trend of Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row, the newly released Sleeping Dogs, a sandbox “take down the Triads” game, will feature a radio station that provides you with nothing but metal. However, Sleeping Dogs took it one step further and aligned themselves with Roadrunner Records. That’s right, the whole station is RR heavy rock and metal artists. Next week sees the release of Enslaved, Soulfly‘s eighth studio album (iTunes preorder). In anticipation of this release, BD Music caught up with singer/guitarist Max Cavalera to discuss the album, his autobiography, and the video for World Scum. Rather than transcribing this interview, I chose to leave it as an audio interview because the passion of Max when talking about the fans is something I feel needs to be heard. Soulfly Splits With Bassist Bobby Burns

Soulfly have announced that they have parted ways with bassist Bobby Burns. The split was completely amicable and there was no animosity on either side.  
 
Johny Chow, who played with Soulfly’s Max Cavalera in Cavalera Conspiracy and is a member of Fireball Ministry, will be loaning his skills to upcoming Soulfly tours for the immediate future until the position is filled. Fans will be able to check out this rare, “limited edition” lineup at Sonisphere UK, and Wacken in Germany in August.
 
Soulfly’s seventh album, Omen, is in stores now. The band will return to the US to tour in the imminent future. Alternative Press said “longtime fans of Cavalera’s brand of primitive crunch will love Omen…” while Revolver said Omen is “harder, angrier and catchier than its predecessors.”

Mutiny Within to Tour With Sonata Arctica

Mutiny Within continue to live their lives on the road, converting one fan at a time to their modern blend of progressive metal the old fashioned way: through lots of touring. It’s going to be incredibly busy spring and summer seasons for the New Jersey band, which released its self-titled debut in February, who will pound the pavement alongside Sonata Arctica, beginning April 2. The tour will run for four weeks. The six-piece will follow up the Sonata Arctica trek with a spate of dates that will be announced imminently, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
Next, the band will join Soilwork on that band’s summer tour, which kicks off July 14 and runs through August 15.

Soulfly Confirms New Album To Be Released in May 2010

It’s been roughly 14 years since Max Cavalera’s split from Sepultura and subsequently about 13 years since he formed Soulfly. 1998’s self-titled debut landed at #79 on the Billboard 200, while their next two albums ranked at #32 and #46 respectively.  Their latest album “Omen” could put them back on the charts. Some tracks to be included are “Bloodbath and Beyond”, “Jeffrey Dahmer” and “Lethal Injection”. The band has also reportedly recorded several cover songs expected to be released as bonus tracks. Among these are Led Zeppelin’s “Four Sticks”, Sepultura’s “Refuse/Resist” and Excel’s “Your Life/My Life”. The album will be unleashed on May 4.

SOULFLY Finished Recording New Album ‘Omen’, Grab It On May 4th

Longtime Roadrunner Records recording artist SOULFLY, lead by metal deity Max Cavalera, have just completed a stint at Edge of the Earth Studios in Los Angeles, where they recorded their seventh album. Roadrunner will release album, titled Omen, on May 4. Logan Mader served as co-producer. In the true Soulfly style and tradition, the album will feature notable guest appearances. Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato and Prong’s Tommy Victor will lend their voices to separate songs, while Max’s songs, Zyon and Igor, will also appear on special B-sides.

Of the collaborations, Cavalera said “The first one is a song with Tommy Victor from Prong sharing vocals on a song called ‘Lethal Injection.’ The other is ‘Rise of the Fallen,’ with shared vocals from Greg Puciato, Dillinger Escape Plan’s singer.
