[TV] New Poster For “Da Vinci’s Demons” Doesn’t Help Matters Much

STARZ has released a new poster for “Da Vinci’s Demons,” an original series penned by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel) that will start airing April 12th. It still looks pretty stupid.

Starring Tom Riley (“Monroe”), as the title character, “Da Vinci’s Demons” is an historical fantasy, following the ‘untold’ story of the world’s greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Brilliant and passionate, the twenty-five year old Leonardo Da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future but invent it.

The series also stars Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners, “Honest,” Captain America: The First Avenger), who plays the celebrated beauty with obscure motives, Lucrezia Donati; Elliot Cowan (“Marchlands,” “The Fixer,” “Lost in Austen”), who plays the shrewd de factor ruler of Florence, Lorenzo Medici; Lara Pulver (“True Blood,” “Sherlock,” “Robin Hood”), who plays his wife, Clarice Orsini; and Blake Ritson (RocknRolla, Titus, “World Without End”) as Pope Sixtus’ ruthless bastard son, Count Riario.

[TV] Trailer For “Da Vinci’s Demons” Confirms The Steampunk-Lite Hilarity

Michael J. Bassett, who directed Solomon Kane and Silent Hill: Revelation, was behind the camera for at least an episode or two of “Da Vinci’s Demons”, a new 8 episode Starz series penned by the popular David Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises).

And now we have the first trailer for the show, which is ridiculous. I’m not saying it doesn’t look entertaining – it does in a way. But they’re clearly just having a good time here, right? This has to be some kind of commentary on the current fascination with updating our favorite historical and literary characters?

In the show, “In a world where thought and faith are controlled, one man fights to set knowledge free. Leonardo Da Vinci is tortured by a gift of superhuman genius. He finds himself in a conflict between truth and lies, religion and reason, past and future. His aspirations are used against him by the opposing forces of the time – luring him into a game of seduction where those who despise his intellect need him most. His quest for knowledge nearly becomes his undoing. Da Vinci throws himself into his genius and emerges as an unstoppable force that lifts an entire era out of darkness and propels it into light. His story becomes a mirror into our own world, calling us all to join his fight to free the future.

[TV] David Goyer’s “Da Vinci’s Demons” Looks Totally Hilarious!!

Michael J. Bassett, who directed Solomon Kane and the forthcoming Silent Hill: Revelation, was behind the camera for at least an episode or two of “Da Vinci’s Demons”, a new Starz series penned by the popular David Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises). I wasn’t really sure where they were going with this project. Until now.

The first images from the series have been released (via THR) and they’re amazing! It’s kind of like Hudson Hawk without Bruce Willis with a little bit of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes thrown in for good measure. I’m not sure that this is the intent here, but who knows until we actually see the thing?

TV: Starz Developing Period Horror Series “Vlad Dracula”

Starz is ramping up its original series slate with the development of two projects, “Vlad Dracula” and “Incursion,” reports Variety.

J. Michael Straczynski and Roy Lee (The Ring, 7500, Godzilla) are teaming for “Vlad Dracula,” which will blend the history of the 15th century Prince of Wallachia with the fictional lore of Dracula. Rob Tapert (The Evil Dead), who has already logged credits at Starz with “Spartacus” and the “Xena: Warrior Princess” series, is also on board to produce.

It’s believed that “Vlad Dracula” could become one of the first projects from Stracynzski’s newly formed shingle, J.M.S. Studios.

“Incursion” comes as part of Starz’s overall deal with “Spartacus” creator Steven S. DeKnight. The project, which is a sci-fi action-thriller that centers around soldiers battling an alien race on exotic planets, comes after the announcement that “Spartacus” will be shuttered following its upcoming third season. Decision to end the show was made by the pay cabler in tandem with DeKnight.
