There Just Aren’t Enough Games About Astral Projection; Let’s Change That With ‘Whispering Willows’

Astral Projection has always fascinated me. I have friends who swear by it, saying they’ve experienced it before through vivid dreams and out-of-body experiences. Whether or not you believe it’s possible in the real world, there’s no denying how fantastic a feature it could be in a video game. I’m surprised it isn’t something that’s been used more often, but at least there’s one game that’s taking full advantage of it, and that’s the indie horror puzzle title Whispering Willows. It’s grim and atmospheric, while still being quirky and colorful, and its focus on storytelling and puzzle-solving should satisfy survival horror fans. Learn more about it after the break.

Asylum

The H.P. Lovecraft Inspired Survival Horror Game ‘Asylum’ Wants Your Support On Kickstarter

The long-in-development survival horror adventure game Asylum recently made its way to Steam where it eventually received enough support from the community to get greenlit. Now that the team behind it is entering the final stretch of development, they’ve decided to follow in the footsteps of many groups before them in asking for extra funds on Kickstarter. As a fan of Lovecraft, creepy abandoned mental institutions, and Scratches — Asylum designer Agustín Cordes’ previous game — this title has been on my radar for some time now. If you’re a fan of survival horror, adventure games, or a combination of the two, this is one of the more exciting games coming out in the near future.

If you’re interested in supporting the game, I suggest watching their pitch first, I’ve even made it super easy to do so by embedding it after the jump. Even if you’re not interested, I still recommend watching it if only to watch Cordes sing to and gently massage an angry asylum in an attempt to calm it. It’s definitely one of the more entertaining Kickstarter pitches I’ve seen.

‘Castleminer Z’, The Best-Selling Indie Game On XBLA, Has Cracked The Top 100 Games On Steam Greenlight

Castleminer Z was the first Minecraft style game I ever played. That and Total Miner helped me get my world-building fix as I patiently waited for Minecraft’s debut on XBLA. Xbox Live’s Major Nelson revealed the best-selling indie games on XBLA last year, and both Castleminer Z and its less horrifying sibling Castleminer took the top two spots. That’s pretty impressive, but the good news doesn’t stop there. Developer DigitalDNA Games has been working on getting distribution on Steam Greenlight, and so far it seems to be doing well as they’ve recently confirmed that Castleminer Z has made it into the top 100 games on Greenlight. If you want to help them in their quest for distribution on Steam, you can vote for the game here.

I Can’t Tell If Someone Is Singing Or Dying In This New ‘Faceless’ Trailer

Today’s shaping up to be a day of Slenderman, but I think I’m all right with that. I just need to make sure the lights stay on and my back stays firmly pressed against this wall so that tall bastard come up behind me and drag me to wherever it is Slenderman takes his victims. Faceless (originially Slender: Source) is one of many games that have been inspired by Mark Hadley’s indie success, Slender: The Eight Pages. What really sets this game apart is its focus on co-op. You enter the game world alone, separated from your friends, so you’ll need to find them quickly or die alone. The game features proximal voice chat, so you can only communicate within a certain distance, and it will also come with FGD support, allowing for user created multiplayer maps.

If you haven’t already, I suggest voting for Faceless on Steam Greenlight, you can find it here. Check out a brand spanking new trailer for it after the break, along with the official teaser, in case you missed it the first time around.

The list of amazing looking Steam Greenlight games is long. Greenlight is such a great idea because it gives games a fighting chance that may have never had a chance to begin with. Indie Horror Games Dominate The First Batch Of Steam Greenlight Winners

The first ten games in Valve’s Steam Greenlight program have been picked, and there’s a surprising number of horror games on the list. Ten titles were chosen to be distributed on Steam, and we can look forward to getting our anxious hands on them in the coming months. “The Steam community rallied around these titles and made them the clear choice for the first set of titles to launch out of Greenlight,” said Valve’s Anna Sweet. “Since launch, hundreds of titles have been submitted, with more coming in every day. We expect to be announcing more titles coming to Steam via Greenlight soon.” Check them out after the break.

Horror Games To Watch On Steam Greenlight, Part 3

Not too long ago Valve launched Steam Greenlight, a new program that gives developers another way to get their games out there by letting them upload their work and have the community vote on them. This system is exciting for indie developers because of the extra exposure and early feedback they receive usually very early on in development, and if the community gives enough support the game will get distributed on Steam. Unsurprisingly, Greenlight has been popular so far. At the time of this writing, there are 800 games being voted on by the Steam community. This is why I’ve decided to scour the submissions in search of the best horror games submitted so far.
