Last August, THEoDEAD reviewed Stef Hutchinson’s “Black Bear Blues”, a 6-page story, which was a part of the “Moon Lake” anthology published by Archaia Comics. The anthology itself was released this last October. Theo was nice enough to share the full preview of Stef’s work with the rest of the class. Now, it’s my turn to bring you guys the rest of our show-and-tell session; I am proud to present my interview with Stef regarding his story “Black Bear Blues”.
If there is a true “master of horror” working in the comic book industry right now then it would have to be Stefan Hutchinson (“HALLOWEEN: NIGHTDANCE”, “DAY OF THE DEAD: DESERTION”). The scribe has been on fire in 2010 covering such beloved classics as Romero’s “DAY OF THE DEAD”, to writing sequels to cult hits like “DEMONS”, and now he is back again with yet another fan favorite title in “BATTLE ROYALE”. The original limited edition comic book will be packaged inside of the special edition DVD set that hits stores on Decemeber 13th from Arrow Video, and even though the set will be a Region 2 offering, the writer assures us that the DVDs will be completely region free! Inside you can get ALL the details as well as a 6 page preview! Read on for the skinny!
Who remembers the interview we did a few months back with “DAY OF THE DEAD: DESERTION” scribe Stefan Hutchinson regarding his smash-hit project with video distributor Arrow Video? For those of you who need a refresher course, Stefan told us that if things went well with “DESERTION” and the fans came out, that the scribe would be doing more stories based around othe fan favorites. Well you delivered, and now Stefan, Keating, and Jeff Zornow are making good on their word as the creative team are again paired up by Arrow to take on Dario Argento’s “DEMONS”! Beyond the break you can get all the details on the special edition DVD release, the specs, and even a 4 page ‘teaser trailer’ for the new original 2 part comic book to be packaged with the release aptly titled, “DEMONS 3″! Welcome to another fun filled installment of everyone’s favorite (almost) weekly horror column, Killer-Graphics! Hopefully everyone had a good weekend, and if you are reading this I can only assume that you didn’t die in some horrible freak Beer-Pong accident. Last week we brought you the first half of our 2 part interview with renowned horror illustrator Jeff Zornow. In that interview we discussed Jeff’s career up until this point, and we even touched on some of his upcoming projects. That was kind of mean for us to tease you like that, so in order to rectify that we give you the second half of our interview that delivers all the information we could possible give you without being sued. (Hey, we even threw in a fancy exclusive illustration) So what are you waiting for?! Make the dang jump! Don’t make me tell you twice!
I’m going to quote BC before we start this review and just say that Full Disclosure: ‘Day of the Dead’ is my favorite Romero film. Now I’m not saying I don’t love ‘Night’ and ‘Dawn’, but there is something about Romero’s third film in the ‘Dead’ series that just appealed to me more than the rest. Perhaps it is the career defining work of one Tom Savini who meticulously rendered so many trend-setting make up and prosthetic FX scenes in the film’s unforgettable finale. Or maybe it was that amazing character named Bub, who came out of nowhere and made an a-typical Romero flick a CLASSIC one. The idea that Bub presented, one of hope and prospect, added a whole new dimension to the film and gave viewers a brand new iconic cult character. That is why I went into ‘DESERTION’ a bit pessimistic and came out the other side very pleased. Read on for the full review.
Stefan Hutchinson is a name genre fans know very well, having worked on such titles as Devil Due’s “HALLOWEEN: THE FIRST DEATH OF LAURIE STRODE”, “HALLOWEEN: NIGHTDANCE”, and the upcoming movie tie-in comic book, “DAY OF THE DEAD: DESERTION”, to be released exclusively with the blu-ray release of the DVD this March. To many horror fans Stefan’s work is revered as some of the most faithful and respectful work ever to be laid down for the franchises he works with. Recently I had the great privilege to interview Stefan about “DESERTION”, as well as his upcoming projects. Read on for the full interview!
