When her husband of more than twenty years is away on one of his business trips, Darcy Anderson looks for batteries in the garage. Her toe knocks up against a box under a worktable, and she discovers the stranger inside her husband. It’s a horrifying discovery, rendered with bristling intensity, and it definitively ends a good marriage.
Set in a small town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of a college student who moonlights as a carnival worker. There, he confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will forever change his life.
When State Trooper Curtis Wilcox is killed under strange circumstances, many unanswered questions are left for his teenage son Ned. The State Troopers have protected a secret for many years: a Buick left at a service station by a mysterious stranger that became Curtis’ obsession. The Buick has unusual features – including the ability to suck in and consume bystanders and cough up nightmarish creatures in exchange. Ned, convinced that the car played a role in his father’s untimely death, decides to destroy it…whatever the cost may be.
King’s novel is a throwback to his early apocalyptic horror novels. In a single moment, a pulse sent out through cell phones around the world turns every phone user into a crazed, murderous zombie.

The books chronicle the mysterious The Gunslinger as he travels across a desolate and vaguely post-apocalyptic landscape in his quest for a black tower. Portals along the way eventually allow contact with our own modern world.
The 1986 film, also directed by Stephen King, tells the story of a group of people try to survive when machines start to come alive and become homicidal. Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle and Laura Harrington all starred.
George Romero and Warners separately tried in vain to launch a movie adaptation in the 1980s, and a tone-downed version was produced as a six-hour miniseries by ABC in 1994, now Stephen King’s grand opus THE STAND is finally getting the big-screen treatment!
The 1978 “The Stand” is a story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. While it features dozens of characters (such as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping story lines running over many years, the struggle boils down to a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.
We’ve got a look at the full trailer for the Stephen King adaptation “Under the Dome,” and it’s not looking too shabby for a network mini-series! I feel like it paints some of the characters in broad strokes, but then again that could just be a trailer thing. The show has plenty of time to deepen them out.
“‘Under the Dome’ is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.”
The 13-episode summer series will premiere June 24th on CBS.
It stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy, and Aisha Hinds. READ MORE

Local Rivertowns Patch has first word on the next Stephen King adaptation, which is quietly going into production in Hollow, New York with a 15-day shoot planned.
King’s Good Marriage, adapted into a screenplay by the author and to be turned into a movie by Will Battersby and Peter Askin, is a little darker than that, with a longterm “good” marriage crumbling as the wife (to be played by Joan Allen; pictured) discovers her husband may be a serial killer.
There’s no other casting available, but expect that announcement very soon. READ MORE
Well, he won’t direct it, that much is almost certain given his current slate – but J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot shingle is currently negotiating for the rights to the Stephen King book “11/22/63″. The development of the project will happen through Warner Bros. TV, where Bad Robot has a deal.
Per Deadline, “ the plan is to adapt the book as a TV series or mini-series, likely for cable.”
The book, “centers on Jake, an unassuming divorced English teacher who stumbles upon a time portal that leads to 9/9/1958 and goes on a quest to try and prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy which occurred on 11/22/1963.”
Are you more stoked for this or “Under The Dome”?
It’s been a busy year for Joe Hill. Not only did the oldest son of Stephen King conclude his beloved Locke and Key comic book series, but his 2010 novel, Horns, is currently being adapted into a Alexander Aja-directed flick starring Daniel Radcliff. Seriously, it’s amazing the dude has managed to take a break from Twitter long enough to write a hulking beast of a novel like NOS4A2. Hill’s 700-page spine-buster––about a woman’s decades-spanning fight against an ageless kiddie snatcher––manages to mix dark fantasy and horror into a wicked concoction that’s part twisted fairy tale, part re-exploration of vampirism (‘NOS4A2’ is a vanity plate reference to ‘Nosferatu’.) One of the most anticipated novels of the year, NOS4A2 will be released by William Morrow on April 30.
Joe Hill is no Christmas lover. Just check NOS4A2 for proof, where vampiric antagonist Charlie Manx whisks kids away to a nightmare realm called Christmasland to have their conscience drained away. In Christmasland, sparkly glass ornaments hang from trees, the scent of gingerbread lingers in the air, and hook-toothed children giggle as they dismember butterflies, all while Bing Crosby sings holiday classics in the background. Hill’s terrible, grotesque netherworld gleefully perverts the spirit of the season. As the author recently told Complex clothes catalog, “If there was a war on Christmas, I would be the general advancing on it.”
Victoria is the only person qualified to stop Charlie Manx’s reign of terror, although at the beginning of NOS4A2, she’s only 8-years-old. Early on Vic discovers she has the ability to travel to faraway places using a covered bridge that magically appears when she pumps the pedals of her Tuffburner bike. Initially using her bridge to find lost objects for their owners, Vic unintentionally uses the bridge to travel to the nightmarish Christmasland, where she’s forced into a confrontation with Charlie Manx and his giggling minions.
Years later, Vic worries that the immortal Manx has returned to exact his revenge, and that her 12-year-old son Wayne might be the target. With her Tuffburner bike lost ages ago, Vic fires up a Triumph motorcycle in the hopes of rediscovering her mystical bridge to Christmasland, where she can finally bring an end to Manx’s reign of terror.
Packed with a dark, malevolent whimsy, NOS4A2 is an epic novel from an epic imagination. In fact, Hill introduces enough ideas and characters to fill a half dozen books, and the abundance of plot threads sometimes works to the novel’s detriment. Unless he has plans to turn NOS4A2 into a full-fledged series (and the conclusion certainly leaves that possibility open), Hill ends the book with several avenues regrettably underexplored.
But “too many good ideas” seems like an awfully petty complaint when you consider the sheer talent and originality on display here. At times both joyful and triumphant, NOS4A2 is a Christmas miracle of sorts, a revenge tale crafted from the jagged remains of shattered holiday ornaments.

The gang over at Empire has a look at the UK poster for MGM and Screen Gems’ Carrie remake. I actually like it a little bit better than the US one, even though it’s nothing new from the campaign really.
In theaters October 18 (in the US, the UK gets is November 29th), the Kimberly Peirce-directed redo is “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.” Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday also star.

CBS’s new summer series, “Under the Dome,” with acclaimed director Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) taking the helm on the first episode, is just around the corner and we’ve got a new teaser showing the divide the Dome creates called “No Way Out.”

A press release circulated on Facebook back in January that reveals that Stephen King’s Cujo could bite again.
Lang Elliott, President & CEO of Sunn Classic Pictures, Inc., announced that Sunn plans to produce the remake of Cujo this year representing the 30th Anniversary since Sunn produced and distributed the original Cujo motion picture in 1983, based upon Stephen King’s novel. The 1983 version was highly successful at the worldwide box-office and, compared with today’s inflation and higher ticket prices, the box-office would be well over $225 million even without ancillary sales (i.e., DVD, cable, free television, pay-per-view, etc.).
“Cujo is the story of a large, playful St. Bernard dog that is transformed into a hideous killing machine after being infected by rabies. Donna Trenton’s car is on the fritz, and she and her son take her ailing automobile to their mechanic. Upon their arrival, the car stalls and refuses to restart. The mechanic fails to appear so Donna searches for him. The transformed, maniacal Cujo reveals himself; he is highly agitated and very aggressive. Donna hardly recognizes this filthy, monstrous creature foaming at the mouth. Suddenly Cujo charges Donna, who barely makes it back into the car for protection. Trapped with her son and the windows rolled up, the sweltering heat begins to take its toll. Cujo’s powerful state of insanity and violence await.”

Get ready for The Overlook Hotel.
Back in July, we featured this blurb from The LA Times, “ “Warner Bros.is quietly exploring the possibility of a prequel to “The Shining,” The studio has solicited the involvement of Hollywood writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt to craft a new take as producers, according to a person familiar with the project who was not authorized to talk about it publicly… The film would focus on what happened before Jack Torrance (of course played memorably onscreen by Jack Nicholson), his wife and their psychic son arrived at the haunted retreat where Torrance soon descends into violent madness. ”
Turns out they were dead-on. It’s been announced today that former “Walking Dead” showrunner Glen Mazzara is the likely candidate to write Overlook Hotel for the studio. Per Deadline, “Glen Mazzara, who ran AMC’s smash hit series The Walking Dead for the past several seasons, will now focus on ghosts. He’s in talks to write The Overlook Hotel, a prequel to the Stanley Kubrick-directed The Shining, based on the Stephen King novel.”
Personally, if this has to happen, I dig the idea of them doing a story about the hotel rather than a Torrance family origin story. What about you?
