It is no secret that “F.E.A.R” is one of the most popular horror franchises currently running in the world of video games, and with that said it should come as no shock that the release of the franchises’ third installment is one of the most hotly anticipated of 2011. The cats out of the bag as “30 Days of Night” creator Steve Niles revealed one of guitarist-turned-producer Slash’s first productions: a live-action adaptation of his “Frankenstein” story Wake the Dead. Originally set up back in 2008 with Jay Russell at the helm (who is still attached), Slasher Films will get behind the retelling of the “Frankenstein” legend in the style of cult favorites The Crow and Darkman! In the first issues, College student Victor works to reverse death, not knowing what a can of worms he’s opening up. But he’ll find out. After seeing how good 30 Days of Night turned out, we can only dream of how good this could be. Hopefully Slash knows what’s he’s doing (we do know for a fact that he’s good at the “Tales from the Crypt” pinball game, although I’m not sure how that helps).
To me, Steve Niles’ (“30 DAYS OF NIGHT”) newest monthly from publisher IDW, “DOC MACABRE”, reminds me of “DEXTER’S LABORATORY” with a huge horror twist mixed in. Whatever it is, it works, and the series is one of my new favorites in the horror/weird science/reanimated dead/sci-fi sub-genre…if that is a sub-genre… In any event you can check out the 6 page preview of the second issue that drops on January 5th if you make the jump. This past weekend DC imprint Wildstorm made the announcement via their official blog that writer Steve Niles (“30 DAYS OF NIGHT”) would be teaming with illustrating mastermind Glenn Fabry (“PREACHER”, “HELLBLAZER”) for an all new original horror titled called “LOT 13″. When asked to talk about the series the artist seemed to have so much to say that he couldn’t find a way to convey it in a coherent manner, but from what we gather the series sounds like it is going to be bloody bit of fun just in time for the holiday. Details below.
Here’s What Fabry Says About The Title…
Glenn Fabry: “It’s the story of this poor unfortunate family who are having difficultly while moving house and they’ve decided they’re going to stop off at this motel in America. This motel thing kind of mysteriously appears. They’re tired, and they’re gonna stay the evening in this motel. But it’s haunted, and there are zombies and monsters — and zombie horses. I’m trying to find a way to get a zombie duck in there… We’ve got an enormous giant, who’s about four-hundred-feet tall. Little red people fall out of his chest into his crotch and land on the floor and explode. I’m basically trying for a combination of George A. Romero kind of horror and Spirited Away by Miyazaki, a germ of that kind of stuff. It’s actually the best work I’ve done for some years. I’m enjoying the project, and it’s looking really nice as far as I’m concerned. And it should be available in a couple of months, I think, the first issue. It’s gonna be six issues, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that it will sell well enough to be collected in a graphic novel. Then I can make a fortune and go away and rule the world from a private island.”

Now available from Radical Publishing is Steve Nile’s City of Dust. Beyond the break you can read my review of the comic to see if it’s worth picking up. City of Dust takes place in a futuristic society where religion and fiction are illegal, because it is believed the nurturing of the imagination is dangerous. Check the break for the review…
Straight from the artist himself, D.W. Frydendall, we have a first look at some advanced cover art for the anthology Dark Delicacies from IDW. Check the other cover and info after the break…
I’ve recently come across the first 2 issues of City of Dust, a series that until this time was under my radar. But as soon as I started reading issue #1 and saw gore, jetpacks, werewolves and 1984-like totalitarian government; I furiously read both issues. Here’s a visual aide for what you should expect:
Set in the isolated town of Barrow, Alaska, in the extreme northern hemisphere, which is plunged into complete darkness annually for an entire month. When most of the inhabitants head south for the winter, a mysterious group of strangers appear: bloodthirsty vampires, ready to take advantage of the uninterrupted darkness to feed on the town’s residents. As the night wears on, Barrow’s Sheriff Eben (Josh Hartnett), his estranged wife Stella (Melissa George), and an ever-shrinking group of survivors must do anything they can to last until daylight.
