New Images From ‘The World’s End’ Show Simon Pegg Wilding Out

We’ve got a couple of new images from The World’s End, Shaun of the Dead and Hit Fuzz director Edgar Wright’s new movie that stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan.

The images (screen-grabs from a promo clip) sort of reveal Simon Pegg’s character to be the wild ringleader of the group, definitely holding onto “the cigarette end of his teens” as described in the synopsis. I know this is a slight update, but I’m just incredibly excited for this movie. To make it up to you – you can watch about 4 seconds of the movie below (in two small chunks during a minute-long summer presentation reel – your choice).

In theaters August 23 2013, “20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.READ MORE

New Pics From ‘Manborg’ Highlight The Epic-Ness

We’ve got some new stills for Manborg, the cult favorite sci-fi/fantasy homage coming to select theaters and DVD on April 30, from Dark Sky Films and they underscore just how much of a bizarre pastiche this film is. I’m hoping I love it!

The armies of hell have taken over the Earth, and all that stands in the way of the villainous Count Draculon and humanity’s total extinction is a motley crew of misfits led by the mighty Manborg: a warrior who’s half-man, half-machine, but all hero.

Once a young soldier killed during the first war against hell, Manborg (Matthew Kennedy, Lazer Ghosts 2) reawakens in the future, rebuilt as a walking weapon and mankind’s last hope. Struggling to learn the secret of his origins, Manborg unwittingly befriends a post-apocalyptic Australian punker (Conor Sweeney, Heart of Karl), a knife-wielding vixen (Meredith Sweeney, Father’s Day) and a kung fu master before finally squaring off against Count Draculon (Adam Brooks, Father’s Day) in a desperate and bloody bid to take back the Earth.

This campy, comedic action flick, which Variety called “enjoyably ridiculous,” is also an affectionate and clever tribute to fan favorite ’80s films and videogames like The Terminator, RoboCop and “Mortal Kombat.” READ MORE

New Trailer For ‘The Purge’ Is Super Intense!! The Poster Isn’t Half Bad Either!

Writer/Director James DeMonaco’s Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes-produced The Purge (formerly Vigilandia) – came out swinging today with a new trailer, poster, some cool stills and a new synopsis! Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge, Tony Oller and Rhys Wakefield star in the film. I definitely like the intensity and the “what if The Strangers were legal” vibe!

In an America wracked by crime, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity—including murder—is legal. The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It is one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking.

Directed by James DeMonaco (writer of Assault on Precinct 13 and The Negotiator), The Purge is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister), Platinum Dunes’ partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), as well as Sébastien Kurt Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13).

The Purge hits May 31st, 2013. Head inside for the trailer, poster and image gallery! READ MORE

5 New Images From ‘Evil Dead’ To Tide You Over!

I saw Evil Dead, the Fede Alvarez-directed remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 classic, again last night and it confirmed my feelings about the first screening. Not a perfect movie (some rough spots in the beginning), but once it gets going it’s such a f*cking blast it’s unbelievable – which is why I’ve been calling it a “near perfect experience.” Anyway – here are 5 more pics to tide you over!

Starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, Bruce Campbell, “five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Exclusive Images From Eric England’s ‘Contracted’ And The First Word On His Next Film, ‘The Underneath’

Bloody Disgusting has landed the exclusive first images from Contracted, the new film from writer/director Eric England (Madison County, Roadside). The film just wrapped principal photography earlier this week and stars Njarra Townsend, Caroline Williams, Katie Stegeman, Charley Koontz, E-Kan Soong, Matt Mercer, Simon Barrett, Alice Macdonald, Jennifer Gonzalez, Ruben Pla and Lionel D. Carson.

In the film, also penned by England, “A young girl has a one-night stand with a random stranger and contracts, what she thinks is, a sexually-transmitted disease – but is actually something much worse.” Here’s our initial report on the project.

I recently spent some time on the set of the film, and while I can’t give away too much just yet – I can say that this movie most certainly does not shy away from its subject matter. I wouldn’t wish the sickness visited on Townsend’s character on anyone but, from what I saw at least, it felt like she was rising to the challenges of the role. My visit left me feeling queasy in all of the intended ways.

We also have the exclusive word on England’s next directing gig, The Underneath. In the film written by T.J. Cimfel (Crawl To Me), “After her husband goes missing in a tragic mining accident, a distraught woman joins the rescue crew only to discover a demonic presence hellbent on reaching the surface.

New ‘Total Recall’ Stills Continue To Make An Iffy Impression

Total Recall Header 51412 New Total Recall Stills Continue To Make An Iffy Impression

So far everything we’ve seen from Columbia Pictures’ Len Wiseman (Underworld) directed Total Recall continues to remain consistent with my early thoughts that it looks okay, but doesn’t have the arch sense of irony or inventiveness that the 1990 Paul Verhoeven original had. These new stills continue that trend. It just looks polished, monochromatic and flat. Not necessarily bad, but not necessarily my thing either. Still, hard not to like Jessica Biel in the Rachel Ticotin part.

In theaters August 3, “ ‘Total Recall’ is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

Did You Ever Think You’d See More ‘Prometheus’ Pics?

Prometheus EW Header 51012 Did You Ever Think Youd See More Prometheus Pics?

We almost went an entire day without posting on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, but then some new pics popped up over at EW and we figured we’d throw a few your way. Most of the pics are fairly bland stuff we’ve seen before (from one angle or another), but a couple of images from their set visit managed to wrangle my attention and I’ve included them below. I particularly like the shot of Fassbender, Rapace and Tom Hardy look-a-like Logan Marshall-Green walking down that totally-unfamiliar-to-the-Alien-universe corridor.

With ‘Prometheus,’ Scott creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

In theaters June 8, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Guy Pearce, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Benedict Wong, Emun Elliott, Ben Foster, Patrick Wilson all star.

New Stills From ‘Maniac’ Take Elijah Wood Firmly Out Of The Shire

Maniac Banner 51012 New Stills From Maniac Take Elijah Wood Firmly Out Of The Shire

P2 helmer Frank Khalfoun’s Maniac, a remake of William Lustig’s cult horror film about a serial killer, is finally dropping a few stills on us after shooting last year. The picture was written by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, Mirrors, High Tension) and his producing/writing partner Grégory Levasseur. It stars Elijah Wood (The Lord Of The Rings and Nora Arnezeder (Safe House).

If you’re still hung up on the whole Frodo thing, at least one of these stills from the Playlist might convince you that Wood is indeed the right man for the job here. No one said serial killers had to be hulking behemoths.

In the film, “Wood plays the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past, when he was abused by his own mother. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.

Five New Stills From ‘Jack & Diane’ Keep The Werewolves Away

Magnolia Pictures’ “lesbian werewolf” movie, Jack & Diane, played recently at the Tribeca film fest and now a handful of new official stills have surfaced courtesy of Magnolia pictures. I’m really curious about this film. What I’ve heard has been mixed, some love it and some don’t. Werewolf movies are an interesting challenge, they’re so hard to get right and I’m secretly hoping I love this one. It’s interesting that all the imagery from this film – at least the imagery that I’ve seen – takes place more or less during the day. Far away from nighttime werewolf action.

Directed by Bradley Rust Gray, “Tomboy Jack and bubbly Diane fall head over heels in love one hot summer in New York City. When Diane reveals she must leave the city for school in Europe, their budding love is tested. Weaving horror elements into a distinctive and fresh yet timeless and universal first-love story, TFF alum Bradley Rust Gray brings his unique vision to this idiosyncratic story of the joys and terrors of first love.

Juno Temple, Riley Keough, Cara Seymour, Dane DeHaan, Michael Chernus and Kylie Minogue all star in the R-rated horror drama.

Magnolia will premiere the film this fall. Head inside for the pics. Thanks to Avery for the heads up! READ MORE

With this sounding more like a love story, is this worth my horror-thirsty attention? Can we expect Jack and Diane to be to lycanthropes, as Let the Right One In was to vampires?

I got with the director Bradley Rust Gray (The Exploding Girl) and proposed these questions. I got the answers plus a whole lot more. Read on, and you’ll see what a well spoken, intelligent film maker he is – how he chose the long hard road over the easy CGI fix – and why BD brethren should take an interest in this lycan-ized love story that has been flying under our radar. HypnotistLand40112 First Stills From Lasse Hallstroms The Hypnotist Look Bleak

The first stills from Lasse Hallstrom’s The Hypnotist have hit the web and while they look appropriately bleak, they also look pretty good.
