Top 25 Guitar Riffs That Make You NEED To Headbang: 25-21

I’m a guitarist and have been playing for over 14 years now. So when I hear a guitar riff that makes me want to snap my neck whilst headbanging, it’s a special moment for me. So I decided that I wanted to share my Top 25 Guitar Riffs That Make You NEED To Headbang. Keep in mind that these are guitar RIFFS and not SONGS. I’m going to put down the album and the exact time that the riff I’m thinking of comes in.

Another theme you’ll notice running through this list is the idea of the “build up”. You see, for me, a headbang worthy guitar riff rarely comes at you straight off the bat. Instead, the music builds and builds until that crushing moment when you can’t help but throw you head back and forth, straining the very tendons and ligaments that keep you whole.

So join me below as I begin a full week of guitar riffs that will make you headbang like a madman! READ MORE

Described as “string metal”, Judgement Day are a three-piece outfit that is comprised of a cello, a violin, and drums based out of San Francisco, CA. They welcomed in Jon Bush began to play drums and the band was able to perform amplified shows at various clubs and venues in the area.

With several albums and compilations under their belt, Judgement Day is back with their latest offering, Polar Shift (iTunes pre-order). With 14 tracks and nearly 40 minutes of music, does this string metal offering work or end up sounding dangerously out of tune? Read on for the answer. READ MORE

[Review] Adrenaline Mob ‘Omertá’

 [Review] Adrenaline Mob Omertá
Comprised of some of the most talented musicians in the rock/metal scene, Adrenaline Mob has a lot going for it. After all, it’s Mike Portnoy (ex-drummer of Dream Theater), Russell Allen (singer of Symphony X), John Moyer (bassist of Disturbed), and guitarist Mike Orlando. With that kind of line-up, you gotta wonder what the final product is going to sound like. Dream Theater and Symphony X? Hell yeah! It’s gonna be some intense prog metal! But wait, Disturbed? So, it’s gonna have some commercial heavy rock appeal? And Mike Orlando, who played with Zakk Wylde and Bumblefoot, which means we’ll likely hear some shredding.
Is this the final product? Is this the sound that the band delivers? And, ultimately, is it all worth it? Find out below.

Stream The Entire Adrenaline Mob EP Right Now

After Mike Portnoy left Dream Theater and a different drummer was selected for Avenged Sevenfold, many people were wondering what was in the future for the renowned drummer. Well, people didn’t have to wait long as Adrenaline Mob was announced. Comprised of Mike on drums with Russ Allen (Symphony X) on vocals, Mike Orlando (Sonic Stomp) and Rich Ward (Stuck Mojo, Fozzy) on guitars, with Paul DiLeo on bass, the five piece is bringing some hard rock/metal to the music scene.

Personally, I think it brings nothing new to the table but still sounds solid. I’d give it a few listens and then put it aside while I wait patiently for a full release.
After the jump, you can stream the entire Adrenaline Mob EP that is slated for release tomorrow.

Arjen Lucassen’s Star One ‘Victims Of The Modern Age’ Release Date Announced

Composer and multi-instrumentalist ARJEN LUCASSEN has firmly established himself worldwide as driving force in progressive rock. While best known for his rock opera project AYREON, the multi-talented Dutchman also regularly embarks on musical side projects, which explore different aspects of Lucassen’s musical personality. As his previous project (GUILT MACHINE’s “On This Perfect Day” 2009) was a relatively relaxed and subtle affair, LUCASSEN’s muses responded by urging him to record something loud, heavy and anything but subtle for this new release. Thus it was a perfect opportunity to launch his musical spacecraft towards the galaxy of bombastic sci-fi rock by revisiting his STAR ONE project.

The result is the album “Victims of the Modern Age,” the follow-up to the STAR ONE debut album, “Space Metal” (2002). Compared to “Space Metal,” the overall sound of “Victims Of The Modern Age” is darker, heavier, more guitar-oriented, and slightly less “spacey”. ARJENhas also raised the bar significantly when it comes to the album’s sound: “I think it’s my best sounding album to date; it’s a huge difference compared to the first STAR ONE. For the guitars I spent weeks experimenting with different amps and settings in every combination imaginable — and it was worth it. The drums sound fantastic, and the vocalists all outdid themselves, putting in even stronger performances than they did the first time around.”
