The Shock Labyrinth 3D

The horror-thriller follows a group of teenagers dealing with the sudden return of a friend who went missing a decade ago. When the friend falls ill, they take her to a hospital but end up trapped in a labyrinthine haunted house.

The film’s central setting is inspired by the Labyrinth of Horrors attraction at Fuji-Q High Land amusement park, near the base of Mount Fuji. The attraction set the Guinness world record for the largest haunted house in the world. Much of the film is being shot on location during the park’s off hours.

Everything’s PG-13! But We Knew That Already!

The MPAA released their latest batch of ratings and every movie they covered that we’re interested in got a PG-13 rating. From Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim to the Dark Horse adaptation R.I.P.D. to Takashi Shimizu’s 7500.

Honestly, it’s not a surprise at all. Nor is it really a bad thing. That may be confusing in light of the editorial I wrote yesterday taking down the exhibitors wish for less “R”-rated movies, but I don’t think any of these three movies were ever designed to be anything other than PG-13. Pacific Rim is a giant $200M movie about robots fighting monsters and R.I.P.D. is a Men In Black style comedic romp.

The only thing I think is really up in the air is 7500. It’s been so delayed I’d imagine there’s probably some behind the scenes futzing around on that one so who knows what went on. But at least this confirms they’ve got a cut ready! Now, when will they release it?

In the long run, as long as these movies are good – I’ll be happy.

Juno Mak Brings Takashi Miike To Meet ‘The Torturer, The Cleaner And The Gravedigger’

Fresh off of his awesome looking directorial debut in the Takashi Shimizu produced Rigor Mortis, Juno Mak (pictured above) has begun scripting The Torturer, The Cleaner And The Gravedigger with Takashi Miike set to produce. Miike will also lend a hand later in the scripting stage, per Screen Daily. It’s not explicitly stated who will be directing the film, but at the moment it’s a safe assumption that Mak will be handling those duties as well.

As with Rigor Mortis, Mak’s Kudos Films will also be producing. Fortissimo recently picked up international rights to that film, no word on they’ll be involved with The Torturer, The Cleaner And The Gravedigger in the same regard.

With that kind of title, I’m just excited for the synopsis to come in!

’7500′ Not Even At The Gate Yet, Delayed Until 2013

Hope you have a meal voucher. The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu’s new airplane thriller 7500 won’t be taking off for at least another 7 or 8 months. That’s a long wait to figure out what the hell is going on in that photo. Per Deadline, “The horror-thriller 7500, directed by Takashi Shimizu, is moving to a yet-to-be-determined date in 2013 from August 31, 2012.

It kind of makes sense though. This is a crowded summer that has already seen one of the biggest blockbusters ever (The Avengers) dominate the marketplace. Even supposedly surefire things like Dark Shadows are only tracking moderately. The move doesn’t necessarily mean the movie’s bad – it might just mean that it’s too small of a movie to properly compete in this climate.

A few days ago we posted a still from 7500 that was sourced from the print edition of Entertainment Weekly. Turns out they had cropped Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween 2) from the image, but the web edition of the magazine has the full still. And she doesn’t look quite the same, to be sure.

Ryan Kwanten, Amy Smart, Leslie Bibb, Jamie Chung, Nicky Whelan, Johnathon Schaech, Christian Serratos, Scout Taylor-Compton, Jerry Ferrara and Alex Frost all star in the film.

Entertainment Weekly landed the pic, which I have to say looks kind of nondescript. It doesn’t exactly strike fear into my heart. We’ll see how things shake out when the film is released though.
