[TV] New “Bates Motel” Teaser Has Mom And Her Little Norman On A Bed Together

A&E Network will premiere the new original scripted drama series “Bates Motel” from executive producers Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights”) on Monday, March 18 at 10 PM ET/PT. Now, we have a new teaser for the show which depicts Norman and his mother on a bed, whispering sweet nothings. Or at least she is while he tries to glower.

“Bates Motel” is a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho, and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory of Norman Bates and how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is. The series stars Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga (“Up in the Air,” “The Departed”), Freddie Highmore (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Finding Neverland”), Max Thieriot (“Disconnect”), Olivia Cooke (“Blackout”) and Nicola Peltz (“The Last Airbender”). Season one also co-stars Nestor Carbonell (“Lost,” “The Dark Knight Rises”) and Mike Vogel (“Pan Am”).

In “Bates Motel,” following the tragic death of her husband, Norma Bates buys a motel on the outskirts of the idyllic coastal town of White Pine Bay, seeking a fresh start. As Norma and Norman get ensconced in their new home, they discover this town isn’t quite what it seems, and the locals aren’t so quick to let them in on their secrets. But the Bates’ are done being pushed around and will do whatever it takes to survive – and will do whatever it takes to protect their own secrets.

‘NeverDead’ Dev Teases An Announcement Of Something Horror Related Coming Next Month

Rebellion Developments, the studio behind NeverDead and Sniper Elite V2, teased an announcement of their next project earlier today. It looks to be of the horror persuasion and its logo all but guarantees it has something to do with Sniper Elite. I’m guessing this is zombie DLC for Sniper Elite V2, or potentially even a standalone expansion à la Infamous 2′s Festival of Blood or Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare, but we won’t know for sure until they officially announce it next month (on Valentine’s Day, strangely enough). The ambiguous synopsis doesn’t shed much light either, “One man is utterly alone amidst the chaos of war. But there are worse things to fear than bombs and bullets here…”

Interestingly, the dev also wrote “PC fans will soon get the chance to discover for themselves just what is in store for those brave enough to venture into the ‘Totraum’.” This means that at least for now, this will be a PC exclusive. I’m getting strong zombie vibes from this tease, but we already have so many of those already, so hopefully they surprise us all by announcing a demon game, or something. Check out the teaser after the jump.

Here’s The 100% Buffy Inspired Trailer For ‘Blind Alley’!

Over the summer Variety reported that writer/director Antonio Trashorras’ vampire film Blind Alley would be headed to the U.S. on VOD by the fall of 2012.

While that didn’t happen, we do now have a look at the trailer. It’s kinda silly and looks like an extended version of the “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” TV opening credits. Complete with what’s almost the same song. While I love that show, you know, it’s time to move on.

In the film (which stars Ana de Armas, Diego Cadavid and Leonor Varela), “In a tiny laundrette hidden down an alleyway, Rosa finds herself trapped, completely isolated and unable to escape the nightmarish situation of being attacked by a serial killer. At the break of dawn and after hours of anguish, immersed in the sadistic game of rat and mouse the killer has subjected her to, the young girl will discover something even more disturbing about the nature of her aggressor.READ MORE

Gory Horror Short ‘Dysmorphia Has Sick Bags At The Ready! Check Out The Teaser!

When Glaswegian film-maker Andy Stewart set out to make a body horror short to kick start an anthology he surely could not have anticipated the kind of response Dysmorphia has been getting across the globe. No screening of the film has been complete without audience members fainting or rushing out to vomit – a physical repulsion rarely found in the age of torture-porn, gratuitous gore and extreme horror. So what is it about this 12 minute masterpiece that has everyone reeling?

The Desert Makes For A Good ‘Dead Stop’

Another horror indie, Dead Stop, seems to be on the way. Directed by Jonas Stolpe and written by Josh Jacobs, the film stars Cathy Baron, Jon Briddell, Nikki McKenzie, Sarah Flannery, Michael Rupnow, Devin Leigh, Brian Ramian and Nikolai Stolpe.

In the desert bound horror, “The desert can be an unforgiving place. By day the temperatures soar past the century mark, hot enough to drop a man in his tracks, and by night they plummet low enough to freeze the life out of him. It is filled with wildlife, feral and deadly. It is not a place where you want to get lost. Unfortunately, Todd and Josh and their friends have done exactly that. On their way to a ski trip, the group of teens and the pair of hitchhikers they’ve picked up have taken a wrong turn and find themselves miles from anything resembling civilization. It’s often said that the snakes, scorpions, coyotes, spiders and all that live in the desert are more afraid of humans than the humans are of them. But in this case there is good reason for these people to be more than just scared. In this particular stretch of the California desert, there’s one wild creature that does not fear man. A very large and fierce creature that craves their flesh. It’s strong. It’s primal. It’s relentless. And it’s hungry…

[Sundance '13] New Teaser For ‘Stoker’ Has The Sexy Swagger You’re Looking For This Morning

Park Chan-wook’s (Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengenace, Lady Vengeance, Thirst) english-language debut, Stoker, penned by Ted Foulke (aka Wentworth Miller), just got a cool new teaser (via Empire). It’s completely different in tone from the last trailer and really sells the f*cked up vibe of the film with a nice music choice and some sprays of blood.

Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Jacki Weaver, Lucas Till, Alden Ehrenreich, Phyllis Somerville and Dermot Mulroney all star. The film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this week.

After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

Stoker hits theaters March 1st from Fox Searchlight. Head inside for the teaser! READ MORE

[TV] Slow Down Buddy! There’s A “Dexter” Season 8 Promo Already?

The 8th Season of “Dexter” will premiere on Sunday, June 30th. That’s a full three months earlier than last year’s premiere (Season 7 premiered at the end of September) and now we’ve got a teaser that touts your abbreviated wait time. I should note that there is absolutely no new footage in this teaser and for 1 second it makes you think that Liev Schreiber has joined the program.

Just a reminder that I’m starting to personally doubt this will be the last season. The show is still performing well in the ratings and even Showtime President David Nevins is hedging his bets by saying stuff like, “[Season 8] is the likely endpoint, but I’m leaving open the possibility that plans could change [...] I think there’s a very clear trajectory now of where they’re going. I think it’s going to help to write with that endgame in mind. I’ve been pushing to shake up the formula a little bit. I think there should be fundamentally different dynamics now.” and “ “Dexter” for Showtime is what Batman is to Warner Bros., it is a cornerstone franchise.

Throughout “Fringe”’s thrilling five seasons, the series has followed Special Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), enlisted institutionalized “”Fringe”” scientist Walter Bishop (John Noble) and his globe-trotting, jack-of-all-trades son, Peter (Joshua Jackson) as the “Fringe” team explored mysterious occurrences linked between parallel universes, doppelgängers, Observers and unimaginable threats. The unlikely trio supervised by Special Agent Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick) and assisted by Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole) – often led them to science and technological corporation Massive Dynamic, founded by William Bell (guest star Leonard Nimoy), and its enigmatic chief executive, Nina Sharp (Blair Brown).

New ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer Boasts Additional Robot Action (If Not Much Else)!

Warner Bros. cut together a new trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim for Qualcomm’s CES event. This time around you see a little bit more of the monsters and quite a the bit more of the Jaeger robots. I’m sure we’ll be getting another trailer in the coming months that shows a lot more, but for now I’m cool with this revised take on the older one.

In the film, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

In the highly anticipated new season, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors continue to seek refuge in a desolate and post-apocalyptic world and soon discover that there are greater forces to fear than just the walking dead. The struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Season 3 also introduces new characters, including the Governor (David Morrissey) and fan-favorite Michonne (Danai Gurira), along with her zombie pets.

Does This ‘Black Rock’ Trailer Insult The Very Institution Of Horror*?

*My headline has been misconstrued as being 100% serious. I’d like to clarify that it’s only 62.3% serious. Obviously there’s a little bit of sarcasm involved when I say something uber-portentous like “The Very Institution Of Horror.” Anyway, Black Rock, director Katie Aselton’s survival horror tale, “follows three childhood friends as they set aside their personal issues and reunite for a girls’ weekend on a remote island off the coast of Maine. One wrong move turns their weekend getaway into a deadly fight for survival.

The film premiered at Sundance earlier this year and I was surprised by the negative reaction. I mean, the pedigree is really good! Written by Mark Duplass (Baghead, Jeff, Who Lives At Home, Cyrus) and directed by Aselton (whose film The Freebie is actually supposed to be pretty good), you’d think that this would be the kind of thing where people with dramatic/comedy chops get a chance to do something fresh with horror. But everything I’ve heard – and the trailer backs this up – is that this is an unfortunate case of people who think they’re above the genre “slumming” in it for various reasons. Perhaps ineloquently, I summed up my feelings on it here almost a year ago.

Ryan Daley’s admittedly mixed-to-positive review says “There’s plenty of nail-biting tension in ‘Black Rock’, but that tension fades with every stupid decision the characters make, and audience frustration eventually builds to the bursting point. It‘s one of those movies that makes you want to yell at the screen.”

Again, I haven’t seen Black Rock – but I will and I have every intention of giving it a fair chance when I do. I hope I love it, but I haven’t felt this irked by a movie sight-unseen in some time.

Trailer For ‘Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones’ Skirts The Horror Line

Well, Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, certainly looks like a more horror-centric take on the post Harry Potter YA studio movie. The new trailer from MTV actually looks alright to me, not necessarily my thing but I’d probably be fine with seeing it.

Directed by Harald Zwart for Sony Screen Gems, “When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…

In theaters August 23, 2013, Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Durand, Robert Maillet, Lena Headey, Jared Harris, Godfrey Gao, Kevin Zegers and Jonathan Rhys Meyers also star.

The Apocalypse Is Here! The Full Trailer For ‘World War Z’!!!

This whole week we’ve been gearing up for war. Now we finally have the World War Z trailer. And, true to the footage we saw earlier, it looks huge. Definitely a very, very, very loose adaptation of the book. Back when running zombies were introduced to the horror vernacular I had no idea they’d eventually run so fast in film they’d look like cascading flood water. It almost feels like a Roland Emmerich touch. As for the rest of the trailer – it looks good, but nothing that I haven’t seen before in one way or another.

Directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), the adaptation of Max Brooks’ “World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War” stars Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and David Morse.

In theaters June 21, 2013, “The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.

International ‘Maniac’ Trailer Scalps, Ties And Slashes!! NSFW

IFC Midnight will be releasing director Franck Khalfoun’s thriller Maniac, at some point next year (no exact word on when, though). Written by Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur, Maniac is a reboot of director William Lustig’s 1980 cult pic of the same name. The film stars Elijah Wood as a serial killer and I was already pretty stoked to see this based on the trailer, and word-of-mouth from a recent LA screening has been amazing which has me even more amped. And this new trailer, via the Film Stage, backs that up.

In fact, Brad (Mr. Disgusting), loved it too ( review here), and gave it our second ever editor’s choice badge. In the film,”Wood plays the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.

Silent Night

The Trailer For ‘Silent Night’ Hits Just In Time For Xmas!!!

On November 30th, Anchor Bay Films presents Silent Night on screens in ten major U.S. metropolitan areas. That following tuesday, December 4th, the Blu-ray/DVD combo and DVD will be available to unwrap nationwide. Bonus features include “SILENT NIGHT: Behind The Scenes” featurette and Deleted Scenes.

It’s kind of a rare thing to be getting our first look at a film’s trailer less than a month before its release, but I kind of like the idea in theory. It gives people a chance to get jazzed without getting burned out I suppose.

The film, directed by Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion, Under the Bed, The Aggression Scale), is a loose remake of the horror classic Silent Night, Deadly Night. The cast includes Malcolm McDowell (Rob Zombie’s Halloween, Easy A), Jaime King (Sin City, My Bloody Valentine 3D), Donal Logue (Shark Night 3D, Blade), Lisa Marie (Sleepy Hollow), Brendan Fehr (Final Destination, X-Men First Class), and Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World).

McDowell and King star as a small-town sheriff and deputy on the hunt for a murderous Santa Claus terrorizing their community on Christmas Eve. But with the streets full of Santas for the annual Christmas parade, the killer is hiding in plain sight. He’s made his list, checked it twice, and the naughty are going to pay with their lives.

Finally!!! The Official Trailer For The ‘Evil Dead’ Remake!!!

We got a shaky, blurry look at Fede Alvarez’s hotly anticipated Evil Dead remake earlier this month. While it was blurry and shaky due to its bootleg nature it revealed one thing – that the film will be supremely gory!!! And now, we have a clear look at the film. Bonus? Still super gory! And it uses the low-roving shots that we all know and love. Despite the more polished look, it feels very much like an Evil Dead movie to me. In the remake starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas and Bruce Campbell, “Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
