Leprous Stream First New Song From ‘Coal’

The upcoming Leprous album Coal is one of my most anticipated records for this year. I was a huge fan of 2011′s Bilateral, placing it as my Album of the Year (alongside White Willow‘s Terminal Twilight). Their amazing songwriting capabilities and rich instrumentation made for an album that I find myself returning to over and over again.

Now the band has given fans a first taste of Coal by streaming a new song entitled “Chronic”, which you can listen to below.

Singer/synth-player Einar Solberg comments about the song: “We’re delighted to finally be able to give you the first taste of our upcoming album ‘Coal’! ‘Coal’ is a melancholic, soulful and very dynamic album. Where ‘Bilateral’ was playful and ‘in-your face’, ‘Coal’ is subtle and floating. ‘Chronic’ however, is of the more dynamic songs of the album. With a heavy basis, the song pinches a nerve Leprous has never before explored.

Coal comes out May 28th in N. America (May 20th in Europe) via InsideOut Music. READ MORE

Leprous Commence Recording New Album: Post Studio Footage

Norwegian prog metal band Leprous has commenced the recording of their as-of-yet-untitled follow up to 2011′s Bilateral (which was tied with White Willow‘s Terminal Twilight as my Album of the Year).

Singer/synth-player Einar Solberg gives an update: “As many of you already know, we’ve started recording our new album. The drums are finished, and we’re now focusing on the guitars. Also this time we’re using Vegard ‘Ihsahn‘ Tveitan and Heidi ‘StarOfAsh’ S. Tveitan as our producers / technicians. The drums were recorded in the really cool and old school Juke Joint Studio, and we’re really satisfied with the result.

“As far as the new music, we can only remind you that LEPROUS will never be the kind of band to re-create the mood from previous works, and it’s very important for us that each album has its own strong character. We have great belief in this album and we promise something fresh, challenging and soulful! This album will also be mixed and mastered by Mr. Jens Bogren (Bloodbath, Opeth, Amon Amarth) at Fascination Street Studios.

The band has released a studio update that shows the drums being recorded. You can hear snippets of new songs during the video.
