2012 BLACK FRIDAY CHOPPING LIST: MUSIC

Yep! It’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving is on Thursday, which means dutiful consumers are already preparing for the Holiday Shopping Season. If you think you’re exempt from that, think again. Either you know a fellow horror fan (or family member) in need, or you want something for yourself! You can take this as advice for what to buy, or what to ask for.

So we’re kicking things off this year with our music list! I know a lot of you folks are into metal, and we’ve got plenty of that. But we’ve also got a few surprises tucked in there as well! Extra thanks to Jonathan Barkan for his suggestions, they’re designated as “JB”.

Btw, I’ve mainly included iTunes links – they have a “gift” option – to these releases. Even though I prefer discs, I realize I’m a relic so I’m saving links to physical products for the special Box Sets where it’s really worth it to go whole-hog and impress someone special. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE

Coheed And Cambria Release Video For “The Afterman”

So, Coheed And Cambria have released a video for “The Afterman”, which comes off their latest album The Afterman: Ascension (iTunes). In it, a beautiful woman in a lovely summer dress watches a space shuttle launch only to see the shuttle explode, a lá Challenger. Afterwords, she rows out in a little dinghy to pick up one of the astronauts who, miraculously, was wearing a parachute and managed to escape the fireball unscathed.

Once in the boat, does the astronaut frantically row towards the wreckage, hoping to find more survivors? Does this nameless woman row him to shore for medical attention? Nope. They make out, cuddle and stare off into the sunset while enjoying the rollicking motion of the waves. Oh, and then he tucks her in and sinks into the ocean (spoiler alert: he’s actually Aquaman). Kudos to you two for being wholly inappropriate.

Coheed And Cambria Announce Details For New Album

Coheed And Cambria have announced that their upcoming sixth studio record, The Afterman, will be a double concept album and will be released in two separate volumes. The first volume, The Afterman: Ascension, will be out Oct. 9th. The second volume, The Afterman: Descension, will be released at an undetermined date in February 2013. The band has released an album teaser video, which you can watch below. The teaser looks like a mix between Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey, so sci-fi fans take heed.

A deluxe version of the ‘The Afterman’ will include a hardcover coffee-table book with expansive art by Heidi Taillefer and Nathan Spoor with collaborative written work from singer/creator Claudio Sanchez and writer Peter David that will create a song by song experience. David previously worked with Sanchez on the prose novel adaptation of the band’s 2010 album “Year of the Black Rainbow,” and the graphic novel adaptation of their 2003 album “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3“.

The Afterman takes place in the running concept story The Amory Wars. Each title from the band falls into this epic sci-fi arc. It was recently announced that Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson of Leverage Productions will be developing the story into a live-action feature film.

Coheed and Cambria are currently touring with Iron Maiden and will be hitting the road for a headline run beginning in mid-September. All tour dates are below. READ MORE
