More On Claudio Sanchez’s Teaming With Mark Wahlberg To Bring ‘The Amory Wars’ To The Big Screen

Coheed And Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about his plans to bring his graphic novel series The Amory Wars to the big screen. Earlier this year he and his Evil Ink Comics imprint teamed up with Mark Wahlberg (The Departed; producer of “Entourage” and “Boardwalk Empire”), Leverage and producer Stephen Levinson ( “Entourage”,”Boardwalk Empire” and Contraband).

Sanchez said it’s not 100% full steam yet, “It’s very preliminary stages. Because the mythology is very dense and a lot of parts are already created … it’s just trying to find the right starting point to get people attracted to it.

The story of The Amory Wars is set in Heaven’s Fence, a fantasy universe run by a tyrannical dictator named Wilhelm Ryan, and is inspired by Sanchez’s vast conceptual tale surrounding Coheed and Cambria’s albums. “I’d love to see the band’s music make a cameo. Not necessarily as the soundtrack but as Stan Lee does for the Marvel movies maybe the music could pop in once in a while.

Sanchez plans on being hands-on with the story, “Being the creator I’d certainly like to think ,” he says. “That’s certainly our understanding going forward in the partnership.” And, he thinks it could be a bit. “It’s a universal story and I think it’s going to draw a bigger audience than just the band’s. I think it has already.

More on this as it comes in. Fans of the graphic novel, are you psyched for this version?

Coheed And Cambria Announce Details For New Album

Coheed And Cambria have announced that their upcoming sixth studio record, The Afterman, will be a double concept album and will be released in two separate volumes. The first volume, The Afterman: Ascension, will be out Oct. 9th. The second volume, The Afterman: Descension, will be released at an undetermined date in February 2013. The band has released an album teaser video, which you can watch below. The teaser looks like a mix between Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey, so sci-fi fans take heed.

A deluxe version of the ‘The Afterman’ will include a hardcover coffee-table book with expansive art by Heidi Taillefer and Nathan Spoor with collaborative written work from singer/creator Claudio Sanchez and writer Peter David that will create a song by song experience. David previously worked with Sanchez on the prose novel adaptation of the band’s 2010 album “Year of the Black Rainbow,” and the graphic novel adaptation of their 2003 album “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3“.

The Afterman takes place in the running concept story The Amory Wars. Each title from the band falls into this epic sci-fi arc. It was recently announced that Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson of Leverage Productions will be developing the story into a live-action feature film.

Coheed and Cambria are currently touring with Iron Maiden and will be hitting the road for a headline run beginning in mid-September. All tour dates are below. READ MORE
