This Is the End

Rogen wrote the script with Goldberg. The project is inspired by a short called “Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse” that featured Rogen and Jay Baruchel playing themselves, holed up in an apartment as they dealt with the end of the world.

The comedy This Is The End follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

[SXSW '13] Corey Mitchell’s Day 2: Short Cuts

After all the hype (and massive letdown) from Day 1 at SXSW in the form of The Evil Dead remake, my second day viewing consisted of 18 short films over two blocks. The first, Shorts Program 1, did not provide any Bloody Disgusting-worthy material other than a brief crime scene shot featured in Kat Candler’s brilliant Black Metal, which was featured here in whole this past January. (I also worked on the film as a crime and music scene consultant and as music supervisor.)

The second block, however, is where the beefy center was located — the Midnight Shorts — at 9:00pm. Go figure? SXSW Shorts Programmer Claudette Godfrey appropriately set the tone with beer in hand and F-bombs on her lips, despite the early hour. What followed was a mixed-leaning-towards-solid bag of sex, guns, and shrubs. READ MORE

[Sundance '12] Mind-Blowing Short Film ‘The Apocalypse’

Ok, so it’s not the best thing I’ve ver seen, but it’s mind-blowing, literally.

Having premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, Andrew Zuchero’s “The Apocalypse” begins when four uninspired friends try to come up with a terrific idea for how to spend their Saturday afternoon.

It stars Martin Starr, Ella Rae Peck, Kate Sheil, Ben Pike, Chanel Michaels and Duke Dlouhy.

Seth Rogen And Evan Goldberg May Write A Horror Movie After ‘The Apocalypse’

GoldbergRogen30712 Seth Rogen And Evan Goldberg May Write A Horror Movie After The Apocalypse

This simultaneously my most and least favorite kind of news. It’s my most favorite because I love wondering what this kind of project might ultimately look like. It’s my least favorite because this might as well be filed under “jumping the gun”. But here goes… the writing team of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express) may be writing a horror movie.

Per The Playlist, “a desire to take on new territory… has led Goldberg to one of his next endeavors — writing a full on, straight ahead horror movie. “Seth [Rogen] and I have been talking about doing a horror idea that we came up with, and I don’t like horror movies. It’s interesting to me that I don’t like horror movies and I’m interested in doing it,” Goldberg revealed. “I used to just think, ‘Anyone who likes horror movies is sick or [more] likely to kill me in my sleep than my friends who like comedy.’ But movies are therapy for a lot of people, and it’s good for people to get things out. Maybe there would be more serial killers because they get it out with the horror movies, or maybe it makes people serial killers, I don’t really know. But I’m interested in this whole area now, and I never really was before.”

And while Goldberg is keeping further details close to the chest for now, he does cite one recent franchise for spurring his curiosity, and he hints that comedy could possibly find its way into the story. “We do assume that by making it funnier, we can make it scarier, but people don’t love ‘Paranormal Activity’ because it’s funny,” he said. “If it was a bit funnier, and more realistic, maybe it would’ve been even better — and I did think it was a fantastic movie, I actually really liked that movie. That was the one that kinda drew us into discussing this, because we just thought it was so innovative.”

This is so far off that the world might literally end before I see it, but I’m a fan of theirs so it’s fun to think about. Meanwhile, they start shooting The Apocalypse (seemingly retitled from Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse) soon. To see the fake trailer they made a few years back (the new script differs significantly) hit the jump. READ MORE

Seth Rogen’s ‘The Apocalypse’ To Be Cameo Laden

Sony Pictures is in negotiations to finance and distribute The Apocalypse, the end-of-the-world comedy that is serving as the directorial debut of Seth Rogen and longtime writing partner Evan Goldberg, says THR.

Rogen wrote the script with Goldberg. The project is inspired by a short called “Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse” that featured Rogen and Jay Baruchel playing themselves, holed up in an apartment as they dealt with the end of the world.

The project’s scope has expanded slightly from its days as a short, as Rogen and Baruchel will now be joined by James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson, all playing themselves as they are stuck in Franco’s apartment in Los Angeles facing an apocalypse. The filmmakers also are hoping to populate the movie with cameos.

A spring production start is being eyed. READ MORE
