Nine-Minute Teaser For The Devil’s Carnival: Episode 2 Feat. Tech N9ne

A nine-minute teaser (courtesy of the fine folk over at Vice) entitled The Devil’s Carnival 2: The Librarian, has been released. Meant as a hint of what’s to come, the teaser is “…chock-full of visual and musical hints of the heavenly delight that awaits audiences in The Devil’s Carnival: Episode 2“.

The teaser shows horror rapper Tech N9ne as the librarian of a twisted, nightmarish library, one that is full of magic and sounds. However, N9ne isn’t exactly a fan of noises that he isn’t in control of. So let’s just say that things would’ve gone better had someone bitten their tongue. Check out the trailer below.

2013 will see a new roadshow by Saw II-IV, 11-11-11, Mother’s Day and The Barrens director Darren Lynn Bousman, who returns to direct another chapter in the battle between Heaven and Hell. Creator Terrance Zdunich (Repo! The Genetic Opera) also returns. READ MORE

October is halfway over, and we’ve still got a ton of Blu-ray and DVD horror releases coming our way. Little Shop Of Horrors Blu-ray (10/09/12) with the original ending (finally!), and Universal’s super-awful Wolf Man/Van Helsing abomination Werewolf: The Beast Among Us (10/09/12). Oh, and just for good measure, a gander at Synapse’s Basket Case 3 DVD (10/09/12) – yes, the trilogy closer is finally back in print! Check out my thoughts on the disc specs – and a little bit about the films too – after the break. READ MORE

The Barrens

Moyer will play a man who takes his family on a camping trip to the more than 1 million acres of dense forest known as the New Jersey Pine Barrens, where he becomes convinced they’re being stalked by the legendary winged monster that looks like a deformed hybrid of several different animals.

The legend of The Jersey Devil has been passed along for hundreds of years, as the creature has risen from obscurity to take its place alongside the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot and the Chupacabra.

‘True Blood’s Stephen Moyer Meets The Devil in ‘The Barrens’

“True Blood” star Stephen Moyer, who also just co-starred in The Caller, is locked to topline Darren Lynn Bousman’s The Barrens, which concerns the legend of the Jersey Devil, says Variety.

Described in the vein of spooky Stephen King tales such as “The Shining,” pic is being produced by The Genre Company and will be released next fall by Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Bousman told Variety that he wants to take the legend of The Jersey Devil “another step further. I don’t want to turn it into a cheesy creature feature. It’s about the characters for me, and having watched Stephen for years on ‘True Blood,’ I have no doubt he’s the right leading man.

Bousman is best known for directing three Saw sequels and Repo! The Genetic Opera. He recently helmed a remake of Mother’s Day and 11-11-11, which will be released on that date later this year.

The Jersey Devil Is Living in ‘The Barrens’

With Cannes just a round the corner all sorts of projects are being announced in hopes of pre-selling their budget. Having a name like Darren Lynn Bousman never hurts. While previously announced, we now have the first ever details on Bousman’s forthcoming “Jersey Devil” horror flick The Barrens, which smartly sounds like it delves into the production model of Insidious:

Despite their reluctance, Richard Marlow takes his wife Cynthia, their young son Danny, and his teenage daughter Sadie to the Pine Barrens for a long weekend of camping and family bonding. As they arrive at the Wharton State Forest, a mutilated deer runs out into the road, nearly colliding with the Marlows’ car. Later that evening, another bloodied animal falls from a tree. Bad turns to worse when, in the middle of the night, a college boy camping nearby disappears into the woods. Nevertheless, Richard presses the family to hike further into the forest, to the spot where he used to camp with his father. He is feverish and a past wound on his arm appears badly infected, but when it begins to rain, there is no turning back. Richard’s sickness soon becomes debilitating, his headaches turn to hallucinations. What’s worse, he believes there is something stalking them…something with yellow eyes, pointed horns, and the wings of a bat – THE JERSEY DEVIL. The disfigured bodies of the missing camper and another college boy soon turn up. The Marlows must fight for their lives as the horrifying answer reveals itself in a shocking and tragic conclusion.

You can check out some sales art inside from the creature feature written and directed by man behind Saw II-IV, Repo! The Genetic Opera, Mother’s Day and the forthcoming 11-11-1.
