Outsider Pictures Acquires Spanish Thriller ‘The Body’

L.A.-based Outsider Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to Oriol Paulo’s B.O. hit The Body (El Cuerpo), the latest film from “The Orphanage” producer Rodar y Rodar, sold by DeAPlaneta Intl., says Variety.

Set at a morgue and shot in a chic but brooding noir style, The Body delivers several twists to trad whodunits formulae. Just one: the murder victim’s body disappears from the morgue, suggesting she may still be alive.

Outsider’s acquisition includes a theatrical and VOD release on The Body, one of the 17 films made available to the international press attending this week’s Madrid de Cine-Spanish Film Screenings via the Egeda/Filmotech.com Veospain VOD portal.

Padro described the film as a “Hitchcock-style psychological thriller” that channels influences such as Rob Reiner’s Misery and Hitchcock’s The Birds. READ MORE

Yep! There’s A Remake Of ‘The Orphanage’ On The Way!

Per Screen Daily, Spain’s Rodar y Rodar Films (The Orphanage, Julia’s Eyes, The Body) just announced a giant slate of upcoming films. A few of these are horror so let’s get cracking! The Body director Oriol Paulo’s A Hollow Man, “is a thriller set in a small village in which unexplainable crimes occur. The Sign, “a psychological thriller about a woman who tries to escape a past crime” is also due to come out in 2016.

But perhaps of greatest interest to you is the fact that we’ll be getting a remake of The Orphanage. The site says they’ll be working on a “new international version of ‘The Orphanage’ from JA Bayona”, so I’m not sure if that’s merely an acknowledgement that he directed the first film or an announcement that he’ll be directing the remake.

Rodar y Rodar is also going forward with remakes of Guillem Morales’ Julia’s Eyes and The Uninvited Guest as well as a remake of Paulo’s The Body.

Basically, if it’s horror and wasn’t in English – it will be soon.

Teaser For “The Body” Short From ‘American Werewolf In London’ Doc Director

Rocking a bit of Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” comes a teaser trailer for Paul Davis’ short film “The Body”, which stars Alfie Allen (“Game of Thrones”), Hannah Tointon (“The Inbetweeners”), Jack Gordon (Panic Button) and Christian Brassington (Burke & Hare).

“The Body” is the tale of a murderer (Alfie Allen) who uses the cover of Halloween night to causally transport his latest victim from the scene of the crime to his final resting place. Wrapping the body in tarpaulin and dragging it through the busy streets of London as bloody Halloween prop, all goes to plan until an old school mate (Christian Brassington) recognises the murderer and drags him along to a swanky Halloween party nearby, where a chance meeting with a beautiful girl (Hannah Tointon) takes his evening on an even bigger turn for the bizarre!

Davis directed “Beware The Moon – Remembering An American Werewolf In London.”
