‘Amnesia: The Dark Descent’ Sells Over A Million, Sales Still Going Strong

Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Dark Descent, often referred to as one of the scariest games of all time, is continuing to sell extremely well. Two years after its release and sales of the game have surpasses one million, and it continues to sell over 10,000 units a month. For a survival horror game developed by a small studio in an age where we’re constantly hearing how the “survival horror genre is dead,” that’s pretty damn impressive. Frictional’s next game will be another first person horror title, though outside of its painfully distant 2014 release window, it’s still largely under wraps. The studio is also publishing Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, which is currently being developed by Dear Esther developer thechineseroom.

Frictional also teased the direction they’re going with their next horror project, “One of the things I was most disappointed with in Amnesia was that it never really managed to deliver any deeper themes, but was more like a shallow fright-fest. For the new project we want to change that and really try and bring a certain theme to the front. Our hope is that this will create a very special experience, creating horror in a much more disturbing way.” they posted on their blog. So this will be more disturbing than Amnesia? I’d very much like to see that.
