An abandoned Baja resort is owned by a powerful drug dealer, who has stashed loads of coccaine in a secret location. Extremely paranoid, the dealer hires a scientist to create a horrifying monster to guard the drugs. Nobody has dared to approach the place for many years, until one day, various people start appearing there, for apparently innocent reasons.

[Podcast] Adam And TJ Talk The Best Games Of 2012 In The New Dead Pixels

Adam and TJ finally return from their trip to the mountains where they got caught in a massive cave in. Things definitely got a little weird and they will probably never be the same. They did however record a new Dead Pixels podcast, where they discussed many things. They flew way off subject and talked about some movies they saw recently. They also discussed their list of the best horror games of 2012. They also went pretty deep into the world of horror games from the Playstation 1 and 2. They even went back in time and searched horror on the Atari and Colecovision. The boys get weird as usual, but that’s what you guys like best about the podcast. Right? READ MORE

[Video Interview] Marlon Wayans Says ‘A Haunted House’ Has More Plot Than All Four ‘Paranormal Activity’ Movies Combined

In theaters January 11 from Open Road Films is Michael Tiddes’ A Haunted House, co-written by and starring Marlon Wayans. Also starring Cedric The Entertainer, David Koechner, Nick Swardson and Essence Atkins. In the Wayans family tradition of successful movies like Scary Movie 1 & 2, Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, and, most recently, Dance Flick, Marlon Wayans co-wrote the script for A Haunted House, along with Rick Alvarez, who has produced several Wayans family movies.

Last week I sat down with Marlon Wayans (who co-wrote the film and plays “Malcolm) and Essence Atkins (who plays his newly moved in girlfriend “Kisha”). They talks about their chemistry onset and how A Haunted House stacks up against its more serious found footage counterparts.

[BEST & WORST '12] Evan Dickson’s List Of The Worst Horror Movies Of 2012!

Writing for a genre site is funny sometimes. Since we keep things more or less related to horror around here, we wind up examining almost every movie that comes out that could be potentially associated with that genre. This means that I end up watching a lot of movies that are so bad many people are just flat-out unaware of their existence. So when I look around to sites that cover every genre – and therefore have a more mainstream cross-section from which to pull their “best” and “worst” lists – I’m always surprised at what stuff is worthy of the “worst” designation. I think to myself, “this guy named ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ one of the year’s worst movies. That’s as bad as it got for him.” While I’m sure that film is terrible, I’d bet a major organ that it’s far better than Snow White: A Deadly Summer.

Speaking of, 2012 was a year filled to the brim with lazy, cynical horror movies made by people with no love for the genre – people who see horror as a cheap way to make a buck off a dedicated fanbase. This is a list of those movies (and a few that had their hearts in the right place but got mangled along the way) in no particular order. READ MORE

[BEST & WORST '12] David Harley’s List of the Worst Horror Films of 2012!

2012 has been a snoozer of a year for horror for the most part. I can’t think of another year that I’ve been with the site when I’ve been more indifferent, bored, disappointed, and otherwise unamused by most of what I watched. Not like it should come as a huge shock to anyone that went to the theatre this year, but most of what I’ve included on my Worst Of list are studio films that feel like they were distributed and made by people who just don’t care. Marketing and brand loyalty made some of these movies money, not the actual quality of what was on screen – talk about depressing.

This year, one film stands above all others as the worst thing I had the displeasure of sitting through, regardless of genre, and everything else on my list might as well be second place; they’re all equally shallow and uninspired. As always, here’s to looking forward to next year, which will no doubt have a surprise or two, along with Stoker, Antiviral (hopefully), and You’re Next. READ MORE

[BEST & WORST '12] Lonmonster’s List Of The Worst Films Of 2012

I’ve been following Bloody-Disgusting since way before I started writing for them. Being a critic has opened so many doors for me, providing the awesome opportunity to discover a world of horror that I didn’t even know existed. Unfortunately, some of that world is not so pretty.

Like any year, 2012 was host to some real stinkers. As a personal rule, I avoid trash-talking other people in the industry. I don’t like spitting venom at people I don’t know, especially young filmmakers who are still learning the tricks of the trade. But hey, I’m an emotional guy, and sometimes movies get the better of me. The films listed below don’t find themselves here simply because they’re bad, but because they genuinely made me angry. [BEST & WORST '12] Mr. Disgusting’s List of the Worst Horror Films of 2012!

I recently has a few conversations with people about posting “Worst of the Year” lists as it’s in a way “kicking a dog when it’s down.” Time could be better spent sending positive energy into the world, but on the same token it’s our job to critique films; we are supposed to provide advice on what you should and shouldn’t see.

With that said, it doesn’t provide me with any pleasure to list out this year’s biggest disappointments – but without the bad, how can we learn from other people’s mistakes? If there’s anything to take away from these films, it’s learning what not to do in film. The biggest lesson this year? Don’t pretend to be a horror fan to cash in on our loyalty (I’m looking at you Smiley). READ MORE

5 Horror Movies With Horrible Endings!!!

As often as the importance of endings is stated, it can never be stated loud enough. Can you have a reasonably enjoyable film with a bad ending? Sure, there are plenty. Just as there are more bad films than good films, there are more bad endings than good endings (even amongst good films). We’ve all got our share of favorites that start sputtering around the end of act 2. Sunshine comes to mind. It’s an absolutely brilliant film for much of its running time and it might be regarded as a classic if it hadn’t turned so many people off in the final reels.

But whether or not a film is good or bad – the ending is the last impression its audience will have. A bad one can devalue an otherwise good film or it can be the cherry on top of a truly bad one. With that in mind, let’s take a look at 5 Horror Films With Horrible Endings. Notice I didn’t say the worst endings – I figure it’ll take another few pieces to get to the bottom of that. Also, if you’re in need of a pick-me-up check out 5 Horror Movies With Amazing Endings!

Cedric the Entertainer Adds Laughs To Marlon Wayans’ ‘Paranormal Activity’ Spoof Flick

Cedric the Entertainer (Big Momma’s House, Barbershop, Intolerable Cruelty) is set to star alongside Marlon Wayans and Essence Atkins in the previously titled Smart Ass, a now untitled found footage spoof pic that is to be directed by Marlon Wayans and Mike Tiddes.

There’s also a new sales synopsis that reads: “From the creators of Scary Movie comes another hilarious horror spoof, a parody of the Paranormal Activity franchise. When newlyweds Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) move into their dream house, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, but his wife that is possessed with spirits – or as Malcolm calls it – “relationship baggage.” Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghost busters to rid her of the demon, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his marriage… or his sex life for that matter.” The pic will also spoof Paramount’s The Devil Inside.

Rick Alvarez (Dance Flick, White Chicks, Little Man) and Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie Franchise, White Chicks) penned the screenplay.

[Blu-ray Review] The Lifeless ‘Devil Inside’

Bland, but not awful.

That’s really the best way to explain almost everything about William Bell’s The Devil Inside, an exorcism film that’s a little too safe and way too familiar. At no point does Matthew Peterman and Bell’s script break the mold and do anything fresh, new or outside of the box; that is, until the very last second, when they decide to do absolutely nothing at all and abruptly end the movie, leaving everyone with blue balls and making it one of the worst studio horror films ever in one fell swoop! [Special Report] We Visited The Haunted Linda Vista Hospital To Revisit ‘The Devil Inside’, Here’s What Happened!

Last week we were invited to an event at L.A.’s infamous Linda Vista Hospital for a guided tour of the establishment that involved a few other surprises and guests to commemorate today’s Blu-ray/DVD release of Paramount’s The Devil Inside.

Originally opened in 1904 by the Santa Fe Railroad, the once heralded hospital fell into disrepair by the 1980s and became known for its high number of patient deaths. Now long-abandoned, and rife with tales of terrifying happenings throughout the decades, the hospital provided an ideal setting for a foray into the world beyond what we see…

Attending press learned about the hospital’s chilling manifestations from members of the “Boyle Heights Paranormal Project” and spoke with cast members from the film Suzan Crowley (“Maria Rossi”) and Bonnie Morgan (“Rosa”) as well as Maja D’Aoust, the White Witch of Los Angeles. Upon their departure, attendees were blessed by a priest.

‘The Devil Inside’ Sequel Talk “A Little Premature”

33devilinsidehiresgalery010212 The Devil Inside Sequel Talk A Little Premature

Opening to an astounding $34 million this weekend, a sequel to Paramount Pictures’ The Devil Inside is obvious, yet it’s a bit too soon to announce anything says Steven Schneider, one of the movie’s executive producers.

It’s a little premature,” Schneider told TheWrap Sunday. “Everybody is processing what happened — the remarkable weekend we had — and feeling really good about that.

But Schneider, who produced Paranormal Activity 3 and Insidious, and who executive produced Paranormal 1 and 2, allowed that he has thought about more Devil Inside.

Certainly the filmmakers and Lorenzo (di Bonaventura) and I would all love to explore that with the studio and I think we believe that there is absolutely the potential to carry forward our storylines from the original. It would be a rather organic and fun process — and one that would lead to great results.

What would you like to see in a sequel? It’s only a matter of time before it’s official… READ MORE

[BD Review] ‘The Devil Inside’ Vs. Bloody Staff, Film Could Top $30 Million

33devilinsidehiresgalery010212 [BD Review] The Devil Inside Vs. Bloody Staff, Film Could Top $30 Million

I wasn’t anticipating the BD staff being so overtly excited for The Devil Inside, and with that I present to you three more reviews (one being a video review) for the found footage exorcism film that’s breaking the bank. Two take Evan Dickson’s corner, while one thought it was fantastic. Where do you stand? write your own review here.

In addition, according to THR, the flick is scaring up massive business at the domestic box office, where it’s now on course to open as high as $30 million. This is a huge change from the original numbers. Heading into the weekend, Paramount indicated that Devil Inside would open in the $8 million to $10 million range, but that number has been revised upward in light of the film’s midnight performance Thursday night, followed by strong matinee business. Devil Inside earned $2 million in its midnight runs.

Get over it people, found footage horror is here to stay (and I’m OK with that). Now read on for a trilogy of new reviews! READ MORE

2devilinsidehiresgalery010212 [BD Review] The Devil Inside Carries Scares, Yet Frustrating Conclusion

Paramount Insurge’s found footage exorcism flick The Devil Inside is now in theaters everywhere. Evan Dickson attended the premiere in Hollywood to bring you one of the first official reviews of the completed feature, explaining that it’s kind of OK until the third act; the ending, well, it’s gonna piss a lot of people off.

While there’s enough scares, general creepiness and gore to give it a soft recommend to those hard up for a horror fix, the fact that it doesn’t fully function as a movie can’t be overlooked. Also, it has no third act. So if you’re into things like satisfying resolutions you might want to give this one a pass.

The Devil Inside

Her entire life, Isabella Torelli believed her mother brutally murdered three people because she was clinically insane. After being told the murders occurred during an exorcism she sets out to discover the truth. While documenting her experience with a film crew in Italy, she becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms.

Official: In 1989, emergency responders received a 9-1-1 call from Maria Rossi
(Suzan Crowley) confessing that she had brutally killed three people. 20 years later, her daughter Isabella (Fernanda Andrade) seeks to understand the truth about what happened that night. She travels to the Centrino Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Italy where her mother has been locked away to determine if her mother is mentally ill or demonically possessed. When she recruits two young exorcists (Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth) to cure her mom using unconventional methods combining both science and religion, they come face-to-face with pure evil in the form of four powerful demons possessing Maria. Reverend Bob Larson Has Performed Over 15,000 Exorcisms And Thinks You Should See The Devil Inside!

Paramount’s The Devil Inside is just about to hit theaters and while I haven’t seen it yet – I’ve talked to a very experienced person who has.

Reverend Bob Larson has been pretty busy the past 30 years. He claims to have performed over 15,000 exorcisms during that time. More than one a day on average. I had the chance to speak with him earlier this week about his “real-life” experiences and how the movies stack up against them. Particularly The Devil Inside.

While I’m not entirely sure I believe in demonic possession myself, Larson certainly claims to and was willing to speak at length about it.
