[TV] “The Following” Must Have Some Following Since It Just Got Renewed

I still haven’t gotten past the pilot of “The Following”, but apparently a lot of you have! Per Variety, “Warner Bros. TV’s “The Following” bowed strongly in January in the Monday 9 p.m. timeslot, and sees benefits from Live+7 ratings (particularly DVR use), which places the frosh drama in the No. 2 broadcast drama spot this season in 18-49. Fox ordered 15 episodes for its second season, the same order as its first run.

The FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following? Welcome to “The Following”, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the Scream franchise) and director Marcos Siega (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dexter”).

“The Following” airs Monday nights on Fox at 9/8c.

Kevin Williamson Reveals The Original Plot Of ‘Scream 3′

I know that Scream 3 is sort of a divisive entry in that franchise. A lot of you guys dig the “Scooby gang goes to Hollywood” angle, some not so much. I actually kind of liked the movie when I first saw it in 2000, but now I can’t really get through it. Something about Kevin Smith appearing in this film – and then spoofing the series a year later in Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back – links the two films so closely in my mind that remembering either one of them activates the same pain center.

Of course there’s a ton of other stuff wrong with it too. Aside from “he was making a movie called ‘Stab’. He was stabbed.” Incoming screenwriter Ehren Kruger didn’t fully understand the franchise. The screenwriter who did understand the franchise, Kevin Williamson, was too busy to take a pass at a draft. But now, speaking to ET about his upcoming show “The Following”, he’s revealed his original concept for Part 3. One that takes a page from April Fool’s Day.

[TV] Sgt. Angel Batista Joins Hunt In “The Following”

“Dexter” star David Zayas, pictured right, who I will always remember from HBO’s “OZ”, is going from working alongside a secret serial killer to hunting them.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the “Dexter” actor has been tapped to guest star on Fox’s midseason drama “The Following.

The psychological thriller centers on an Edgar Allan Poe scholar (James Purefoy)-turned-serial killer known as Joe Carroll and stars Kevin Bacon as a damaged FBI agent on the case to recapture the killer and his army of copycats.

Zayas, who plays Sgt. Angel Batista on Showtime’s Michael C. Hall starrer, will play Tyson, a former FBI agent and good friend to Bacon’s Ryan Hardy. He’ll appear in the 10th episode of the Kevin Williamson drama, ultimately becoming an unlikely participant in Ryan’s effort to bring down Joe Carroll’s followers.

Zayas joins Marin Ireland, as recent additions to the drama, which bows Monday, Jan. 21 at 9 p.m. on Fox.

Via THR comes your first look at the promotional art for the new (and returning) television series “The Following,” “Supernatural,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and “666 Park Avenue.”

The studio — which is hosting 14 panels for shows including Fox’s “The Following,” CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” and “ABC’s 666 Park Avenue” — continues to have a bigger presence at the fan convention than anyone else on the TV front.

As part of the push, three WBTV properties — “Big Bang,” “Fringe” and “Supernatural” — will hold events in the 7,500-person Hall H, which traditionally has been reserved for film panels. “You’re starting to see TV take a different position at Comic-Con, one we didn’t see five to seven years ago,” says WBTV chief marketing officer Lisa Gregorian. “Go big or go home!
