It’s Friday and spring is hopefully right around the corner. I guess that’s why I’m feeling like I need a bit more nature in my life. Y’know, trees that have leaves on them. Grass that I can actually see (damn snow) and walk on. Wildlife not shivering their tails off. That kinda stuff! Then I can walk around without 12 layers of clothing. I can breathe through my nose without the condensation freezing (no joke, that’s happened many times this winter). I can walk around my neighborhood without slipping and breaking my ass at every possible turn.
What I don’t plan on doing is taking nature and sniffing it like a drug. I also don’t plan on taking randomly found mushrooms and using them to turn into a burly, sun-murdering lumberjack. But that’s precisely what Mastodon are up to in their “Curl Of The Burl” music video, which is this week’s “Twisted Music Video Of The Week”!
In an interview with Spin, progressive metal band Mastodon issued details on their upcoming sixth studio album, which they hope to release this summer. They also dropped a little nugget that suggests there may very well be an EP with bonus tracks that comes out in Winter!
Drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor states, “It’s gonna be a summer release, so I feel like it needs to be amped. I don’t feel like it needs to be slow, and doom and gloom. That’s a winter album. We were actually talking about that earlier, like, ‘Why don’t we take some of the stuff that’s really moody and slow and do, like, a winter EP?’”
He continues, stating, “We have a few really kickass rock’n'roll songs on here. We have the metal, the heavy-heavy. We have the totally whacked-out and bizarre. And then we have the super-hooky, big-chorus stuff that’s still bizarre and still Mastodon — but it’s super catchy. It’s wild, all over the place. There’s a lot of variety.”
For a brief two-week stint, the US is going to have the opportunity to see one of the best tour lineups I’ve heard of in a while: Mastodon with direct support from Gojira and Kvelertek. The tour kicks off April 29th in Portland, OR before finishing up at the Rock On The Range festival a few weeks later in Columbus, OH. All tour dates can be seen below.
Gojira’s Joe Duplantier commented, “We are really happy to join our friends Mastodon and Kvelertak on this North American tour. See you all on the road!”

Sludge rockers Mastodon have announced that they will be releasing Live At Brixton, their brand new live CD/DVD, on December 10th. The show was recorded during the band’s February 11th, 2012 performance at the infamous London O2 Academy. The full 97-minute performance, which was directed by Ryan Mackfall, will be available only on digital platforms, such as iTunes and Amazon.
I’ve seen Mastodon a few times now and they always put on one helluva show. They get very involved in the music and you can really see how it takes over them. If you haven’t checked them out live I suggest doing so next time they’re in your area.
Head on below for a trailer and the full track list. READ MORE

With Expendables 2 in the rearview mirror, Sylvester Stallone is looking to his next project, this one involving creatures!
Stallone has owned the film rights to the novel “Hunter” by James Byron Huggins for about 10 years now and never managed to make a film adaption.
According to Yahoo!, Stallone and Lionsgate have inked up a deal to fast track Hunter for 2014 release date. Stallone is set to star, write and direct, which will be filmed in 3-D.
In the book, “A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation. It is a job Hunter cannot turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man’s cunning, a predator’s savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Hunter survives its unrelenting hunger for human blood, he’ll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.” READ MORE

Above you’ll find the trailer for Bjarne Wong’s 3-D Malaysian horror movie jam-packed with gore, The Hunter, along with a synopsis below. Watch for more leading up to AFM.
“A film crew from China is tasked to shoot exotic flora and fauna of the world’s mysterious 3rd largest island, Borneo. Historical treasures and hundred year old human skulls still hang in the almost untouched equatorial virgin rainforests native homes, in this the notorious tribal land of the Head-hunters. Locals known for their supernatural prowess, bravery and fighting abilities to survive had been at uncountable wars, ending always with enemy skulls brought back home as trophies. The head-hunters live by the hundreds under one common roof. They wear exquisite tribal tattoos over their bodies, intricate woven cloth, produce practical tools, and arts dedicated nature. But most of all, they craft the sacred and ferocious blades meant for ending their enemies lives, and without hesitation, separating skulls from the bodies. The journey began happily on Borneo Island, little did they expect that some would find love, passion and laughter while almost all will taste the stealthy killing power of the warriors enchanted blade around their necks.” READ MORE

Mastodon‘s latest album, The Hunter, is coming out next week. If that doesn’t get your nether bits all jollied up, you just might be dead to me. In any case, the band has released a video for Curl Of The Burl and it might be one of the greatest music videos I’ve ever seen. No, I’m not joking. A four-armed man. Women with light up breasts. A cat being knocked out by a boulder. These are but a few of the sights you will see when you watch the video after the jump. And you will watch the video…OR ELSE! I’ll punch your dog in her kneecaps.
Mastodon just uploaded a new song, Spectrelight, to the Roadrunner Records Germany YouTube page. The song comes off their upcoming album, The Hunter, which comes out Sept. 27th. You can check out Spectrelight after the jump while below is another new song, Curl of the Burl.
Mastodon have announced The Hunter as the follow-up to Crack The Sky and have teamed up with Adult Swim to release the first video, Deathbound. WARNING: This video features gratuitous amounts of muppet slaughter, creatures from hell, laser-eye robots, UFO’s, and trains. If you can’t handle all of that awesomeness, well then…I guess you shouldn’t watch the video.
Malaysia is getting into the 3-D biz as they’re gearing up to release Director Bjarne Wong’s The Hunter, which follows “a film crew from China is tasked to shoot exotic flora and fauna of the world’s mysterious 3rd largest island, Borneo.
