Go Deep Inside The Yankee Pedlar Inn With This Behind-The-Scenes Look At ‘The Innkeepers’!

An New England inn about to close for good is the classically creepy setting for The Innkeepers, the acclaimed new film from Ti West, the young filmmaker whose critically praised House of the Devil gave the genre a jolt. Starring Sara Paxton (Shark Night 3-D, The Last House on the Left), Pat Healy and Kelly McGillis, The Innkeepers comes to Blu-ray and DVD from Dark Sky Films and MPI Media Group on April 24, 2012.

To take you inside the release, below we’ve embedded an exclusive clip that gives you a taste of one of the home video extras.

After over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn in Connecticut is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees – Claire (Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy) – are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England’s most haunted hotels. As the inn’s final days draw near, odd guests start to check in and the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long mysterious history.

Writer-director Ti West has revealed a unique style that pays tribute to classic horror of the 1970s and ’80s with the bold spirit of the new American independent cinema. The extras on the Blu-ray and DVD will include: The Innkeepers: Behind the Scenes, Commentary with Writer/Director/Editor Ti West, Producers Peter Phok & Larry, Fessenden, and 2nd Unit Director/Sound Designer Graham Reznick, Commentary with Writer/Director/Editor Ti West and Stars Sara Paxton & Pat Healy and Trailer.

[Interview] Ti West And Sara Paxton Talk The Innkeepers, Crafting A Protagonist And Haunted Hotels!

There’s a lot to love about Ti West’s The Innkeepers. It’s a smart, funny character study that just happens to be centered around a genuinely fun and creepy ghost story.

The film made my 2011 ‘Best-Of’ List and I included Sara Paxton’s performance as Claire as one of The Five Best Performances of the year. I’m definitely a fan of the film so it was a no-brainer for me to jump at the opportunity to interview both Ti and Sara when they swung through town on the film’s publicity tour.

We also touched on various upcoming projects for the pair (including VHS and which feature Ti might tackle next). Hit the jump to check it out! READ MORE

Now that you’re here, you may want to check out the EVP clip caught on audio during the filmmking of Ti West’s ghostly The Innkeepers (review)! Oh, and make sure you turn your volume all the way up. ROFL.

Though I kid, the clip is actually a pretty fun moment from the film, but out of context it’s a riot. Check it out after the break. The flick is quite fun and has some creepy moments, I highly recommend checking it out (especially fans of House of the Devil).

SXSW ’11 REVIEW: Ti West’s ‘The Innkeepers’ Spins its Wheels

One of the most anticipated horror films at last week’s SXSW Film Festival was Ti West’s The Innkeepers, his slow-burn follow-up to The House of the Devil. While the film carries some incredibly frightening moments, Harley still prefers Devil:

Even though it has some issues, ‘The Innkeepers’ is a fine film that’s not bad, just kind of disappointing. While not trying to really emulate anything in particular unlike West’s last film, it plods along way too much as it tries to make you identify with its characters and their plight, and ends up spinning its wheels for an hour instead. The performances are great, the comedy and horror work well separately and the payoff is worth the wait, but in the end the whole is not as great as the sum of its parts.”

SXSW ’11 INTERVIEW: ‘The Innkeepers’ Director Ti West!

One of the most anticipated films of the SXSW Film Festival was Ti West’s latest slow-burn horror, The Innkeepers, which is being compared to his previous entry, The House of the Devil.

About the last two staffers (Sara Paxton and Pat Healy) of a haunted hotel that’s going out of business, Bloody Disgusting’s David Harley caught up with West to talk about what people are saying is one of the scariest films of the year.

Dark Sky Films will release later this year.

SXSW ’11: Genre-Bending One Sheet Debut for ‘Detention’

Torque director Joseph Kahn is bringing this stylish commercial directing to this month’s SXSW Film Festival as they’ll be holding the world premiere of Detention, his slasher film that look like Scream meets Prom Night meets a SyFy original, with the Burger King’s Queen as the killer, as we previously reported.

The trailer premiered last week to a flurry of positive remarks, now we got our hands on two more stills and the official festival one sheet. “Cancel your future…

‘Detention’ tells the story of the senior class at Grizzly Lake high school. The road to graduation is never an easy one, but it’s further complicated for these students by the arrival of a slasher movie killer who has seemingly come to life. The only ones who can stop the killer are a handful of students, but they’ll have to cut out of detention if they’re to stand a chance at saving the world.” Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook, Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke, Parker Bagley, Alison Woods, Walter Perez, and Carrie Wiita all star.

SXSW ’11: ‘Attack the Block’ Trailer Reminds Me of When Movies Were Fun!

Remember the days when you’d be watching Showtime or TMC and they’d play House, Night of the Creeps, Fright Night or even Monster Squad? There was something special about that time where movies were always engaging and fun. Maybe it was seeing someone closer to your age battling ghouls, or something else, but when I finished watching the trailer for Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block I had “that” feeling.

Inside you’ll find the trailer debut for the alien invasion horror film which stars Jodie Whittaker, John Boyega, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, and Nick Frost in a film that follows a gang of South London teenagers defending their housing project home against an alien attack.

The pic will have its premiere at this month’s SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Also dig on the official website and Facebook.

SXSW ’11: Trailers, Clips, Posters, Images from Carpenter-Inspired ‘Phase 7′!!

Just announced as part of this March’s SXSW Film Festival, early indication was that Nicolas Goldbart’s Argentinean Phase 7 (Fase 7) wasn’t good for our audience. I think I judged way too soon.

This afternoon I made a few calls and got my hands on the official festival poster, images, a Metallica-rocking international trailer, a Dawn of the Dead-ish festival trailer, and an exclusive clip that also taps musically into Assault on Precinct 13.

From the executive producer of Paranormal Activity, Phase 7 looks like it taps into early Romero and can be described as a cross between The Crazies, Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later. We’re told Goldbart loves Carpenter and used temp music from Assault on Precinct 13, The Thing and Escape From New York.

Starring Daniel Hendler, Federico Luppi, Jazmin Stuart, and Jose “Yayo” Guridi, “Coco just moved to his new apartment with 7-month pregnant wife. When the building is in quarantined for a deadly flue. The neighbors became unexpected enemies.”
