[Interview] Michael Wandmacher (‘The Last Exorcism II’) On Composing Horror

It’s no secret that one of my biggest passions regarding horror is the score. The gore, violence, and atmosphere don’t nearly mean as much to me if there isn’t a solid score behind it. Some of the most terrifying scenes in horror can be attributed to the music hovering over the intensity.

That’s why I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to interview composer Michael Wandmacher, who horror fans know from such films as Piranha, My Bloody Valentine, The Last Exorcist II, The Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts Of Georgia, and much more. In this exclusive interview, Wandmacher talks what it means to score a horror film, the differences in scoring for film versus TV versus video games, and more. We also get to hear a bit about the score for the upcoming film Angry Little Gods, which stars genre favorite Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Cronos) and is directed by Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism).

‘The Last Exorcism Part II’ Dated For Home Video With New Footage!

From producer Eli Roth (The Last Exorcism, Hostel series) and the producers of Dawn of the Dead comes the terrifying supernatural thriller The Last Exorcism Part II (review), available June 18th on unrated Blu-ray and DVD with UltraViolet from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. In this sequel to 2010’s horror hit The Last Exorcism, the evil force that once possessed a young woman is back to prove that “the last exorcism” was only the beginning. Ashley Bell returns as Nell, the role that earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and an MTV Movie Award nomination in the original film. This shiver-inducing follow up finds her back in the relative safety of civilization, living in the city of New Orleans.

Just as she begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans. The unrated Blu-ray and DVD features unseen footage too frightening for theatres, a commentary track with director Ed Gass-Donnelly and producer Eli Roth, and three featurettes, including Hair Salon Scare – The Last Exorcism Part II goes Viral, Nell’s Story and Shooting in New Orleans.

New ‘The Last Exorcism Part II’ Poster Teases House Of Terror

I haven’t been a huge fan of the art released thus far for CBS Films’ The Last Exorcism Part II, their sequel to the found-footage horror opening in theaters March 1.

The new graphic poster, revealed by MTV, comes from artist Rich Knepprath and was created in anticipation of the new horror movie from producer Eli Roth. It taps into the 1970′s vibe of the film, which stars Ashley Bell as Nell Sweetzer, who managed to survive the demonic encounter from the original found footage film.
