Sundance ’11: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Creation of ‘Troll Hunter’ Creature!

Already acquired by Magnet Releasing, Andre Ovredal’s Troll Hunter has been accepted into the “Park City at Midngiht” portion of the Sundance Film Festival, taking place January 20-30 in Park City, Utah. The film is going to be under high scrutiny strictly because of the online hype. How good is it? Ryan Daley will tell us when he attends the fest. Until then, inside you’ll find a link to a special feature that’ll take you behind-the-scenes of the creation of the film’s creature. The pic follows a group of student filmmakers get more than they bargained for when tangling with a man tasked with protecting Norway from giant trolls.

Sundance ’11: Meet ‘Red State’ Star Melissa Leo as “Sarah”

Kevin Smith continues to unload character posters from his forthcoming Red State to sites willing to donate to charity, this time $1,000 to Eliza Dushku’s THARCE-Gulu cause. Dushku’s mission to help build centers for former child soldiers in Gulu, Uganda, is just a few thousand dollars shy of its $30,000 goal at press time. Per Ma’s Meatloaf, winner of the right to introduce us to Sarah, as played by Melissa Leo, “the poster itself follows suit with most of the others; creepy damaged texture, black background, and a character. She’s in [the trailer] very little – which tells me she’s up to no good in the flick. Especially with that one vacant smile she’s got. Want to meet her? Everyone, Sarah. Sarah, everyone.” In addition, inside you’ll find the Sundance Film Festival’s synopsis of the political horror also starring Kyle Gallner, Melissa Leo, Dermot Mulroney, Michael Angarano, Steven Root, Michael Parks and John Goodman.

Sundance ’11: New, Bizarre Images from ‘The Oregonian’

Yesterday you saw the interesting, yet odd trailer, now today we’ve got four more peculiar and bizarre images (one featuring a insane green creature) from Calvin Reeder’s The Oregonian, which premieres this January at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. There is a place. A place where the skies are wide and the forests are thick–and strange. You can lose yourself forever in these woods. You’ll meet truckers with problems and old women with strange powers. You may even make a furry friend. Just be sure to stay quiet. Spend some time with a woman from Oregon who is lost on the road and running away from her past. Now she has a chance to experience everything the grotesque Northwest has to offer, whether she likes it or not.

Say What?! Sundance ’11 Shocker: ‘The Silent House’ Added Festival?!

A little birdy just told me that there’s been a last second addition to the midnight portion of this coming January’s Sundance Film Festival. We’re being told that Chris Kentis and Laura Lau’s The Silent House is already completed and screening! In fact, we’ve already landed a look at 5 hi-res images beyond the break. Kentis and Lau – the duo behind Lionsgate’s Open Water – reteam for this remake that follows a young woman troubled a childhood trauma. Whilst visiting her family’s isolated summer home with her father and uncle, when they learn they are not alone in the house. The terrifying 80 minute period is told from Sarah’s point of view. Elizabeth Olsen, sister to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, takes the lead role. We also learned of the additional casting of both Eric Sheffer Stevens and Julia Taylor Ross. The original Silent House, which ran in Cannes Directors Fortnight this year, was directed by Gustavo Hernandez and told in 80 minutes of “real time” during one continuous take.

Sundance ’11: Trailer Debut for Dark Horse ‘The Oregonian’

Out of all of the Sundance Film Festival Midnight selections over the past decade, one of my own personally most anticipated is Calvin Reeder’s The Oregonian, his feature film debut starring Lindsay Pulsipher, Robert Longstreet, Tipper Newton, Barlow Jacobs, and Matt Olsen. Reeder made his Sundance debut back when his short film “Little Farm” screened before The Signal – talk about a way to kick off a night. If you haven’t seen it yet, I implore you to seek it out (oh wait, here it is!) Anyways, the trailer has debuted for The Oregonian, which begins after surviving a brutal car accident, a simple farm woman limps down the road into the nightmarish unknown. After “Little Farm”, I can only imagine the nightmare that awaits her.
