Best-And-Worst-2012

[BEST & WORST '12] Lonmonster’s List Of The Best Films Of 2012

As you can imagine, I watch a lot of horror movies, and having to choose my favorite films of the year was a righteous challenge. It’s a rare occurrence to sit through a movie and feel completely fulfilled. But it’s the great films that make my job so worthwhile. Taking the time to reflect on my favorite films of 2012 allowed me to appreciate just how wonderful horror can be. It made me proud to be a part of this community.

My list is a true melting pot, gathering studio films and indie films alike in order to showcase that good horror comes in all shapes and sizes. In fact, my top film of the year is probably the one with the lowest budget.

The Revenant

This breakout horror comedy centers around a fallen soldier who somehow finds he has joined the ranks of the living dead. Bart Gregory (Anders) has just recently been laid to rest – so why is he still up and walking around? The only person Bart can turn to for answers is his best friend Joey (Wylde), and before long the two pals have surmised that the blood is the life. In order to survive, Bart requires a steady supply of it. Convinced that no one will miss the drug dealers and killers who have transformed LA into a swirling cesspool of crime and vice, the two friends decide to do law enforcement a favor by cleaning up the streets while collecting the precious blood needed to keep poor Bart from withering away into dust!

[BD Review] ‘The Revenant’ Feeds Off The Funny Bone

The days may seem at their darkest, but still, you must not give in to fear. Whether the knife is against your throat, or the rapist is about to enter, you must not give up hope. You have one last chance in Hell. And do not be surprised when that moment arrives in the form of the undead. Not a zombie, or a vampire – but a revenant. The Revenant.

Originally running the festival circuits thru 2009, this multi-award winning horror comedy took years to get on the shelf. Regardless of that process of decision making, we have, bestowed upon us now, The Revenant, from special effects artist gone director, D. Kerry Prior. And while I am not a fan of the horror comedy in general, this film pierces a direct tap into the funny bone, and feeds off it relentlessly. READ MORE

Most of you reading this are amply privy to the plethora of variations within the family of “the undead”. Zombies, spectres, ghosts, vampires – the list goes on and on. But what about the revenant? Are you familiar? Enough to be able to explain the difference to your friends?

With The Revenant coming out in theaters and on disc soon, its time to take a look at what makes this legendary blood sucking creature of the night different from the zombie, or the vampire. Read on, and consider yourself yet another inch closer to death.

The word “revenant” is derived from the Latin word “revenans”, which means “returning”. In French, it is related to the verb “revenir”, which means “to come back”.
