Alternate Ending on ‘The Rite’ Home Video Release

Warner Home Video has announced DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo releases of The Rite (review) which stars Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciarán Hinds, and Rutger Hauer.

Each will be available to own from May 17th. DVD Active reports that the only extra material on the DVD release will be additional scenes. The Blu-ray/DVD Combo release will include those scenes, plus a chilling alternate ending, a featurette (“The Rite: Soldier of God”), and a digital copy of the film.

“The Rite follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. The true story of an American priest who studied at an exorcism school in Italy. Baglio was allowed to follow a young priest during months of training with a senior exorcist at a school affiliated with the Vatican.

Adapted from a book by Matt Baglio and inspired by true events, The Rite follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. If you live in the Orlando area and have been dying to see Anthony Hopkins exorcise some demons, then B-D has got some news that’ll brighten your day (especially after the monsoons we’ve been getting lately). We’ve been provided with 50 passes (good for two people each) to see The Rite, directed by 1408‘s Mikael Hafstrom and adapted from Matt Baglio’s novel, which tells the story of a skeptical seminary student (Colin O’Donoghue) who attends exorcism school at the Vatican and meets Father Lucas (Hopkins), a priest who uncovers evil happenings in one of the most holy cities on Earth. To win passes to the screening, which takes place on Monday, January 24 at 7:30 PM at Regal Winter Park, all you have to do is show up by 6:00 PM, and we’ll be on hand give out passes on a first-come, first-served basis in front of the theatre.

From 1408 director Mikael Hafstrom comes The Rite, the latest exorcism-themed horror flick starring Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, and Toby Jones. Inside you’ll find the final one sheet and first 3 TV Spots for the flick that tells the story that follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While he’s in Rome, Michael meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith, uncovering the devil’s reach even to one of the holiest places on Earth. Do notice the poster exclaims “inspired by true events,” which basically means it a complete fabrication of another tale. Hence the word “inspired”. Sh*t, I could say this story inspired me to eat a bowl of Fruit Loops, and while it may be true, it’s also completely ridiculous. Point proven? I hope…

I want to see another cool exorcism flick, I really do. I just really doubt anything will ever come close to The Exorcist. Maybe it was because Reagan was a young girl or because the effects were outstanding, but I would never put my money on a new studio film. With that said, I still sit in anticipation of every single exorcism-inspired film in hopes that it’ll give me a fraction of fright that William Friedkin’s 1973 classic did. On January 28th Warner Bros. will release The Rite, Mikael Hafstrom’s “true story” spin on the subgenre that stars Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, and Ciaran Hinds. The film follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. We’ve now got our hands on the first ever image that features Hopkins as Fr. Lucas facing Marta Gastini as Rosaria, while Colin O’Donoghue as Michael Kovak looks in on the scene.
