Original 1986 plot: This is the story of Melvin, the Tromaville Health Club mop boy, who inadvertently and naively trusts the hedonistic, contemptuous and vain health club members, to the point of accidentally ending up in a vat of toxic waste. The devastating results then have a transmogrification effect, his alter ego is released, and the Toxic Avenger is born, to deadly and comical results. The local mop boy is now the local Superhero, the saviour of corruption, thuggish bullies and indifference. Troma classic with good make-up effects and stunts, a pleasant surprise indeed.

Jonathan Bennett (Memorial Day), Ali Faulkner (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1), Stelio Savante (Starship Troopers, Marauder) and Richard Riehle (Halloween II) all star in the psychological horror The Secret Village directed by Swamy Kandan, which now has a second trailer and a new poster.

Written by Jason B. Whittier and Kandan, “The Secret Village “follows Greg (Jonathan Bennett), an unsuccessful screenwriter and Rachel (Ali Faulkner), a spunky journalist, as they research an outbreak of mass hysteria and ergot poisoning in a small village. They rent a house together and start to uncover a secret that has affected this village for years. But the cult activity has been kept a secret by locals Joe (Stelio Savante) and Paul (Richard Riehle) and when Greg disappears, Rachel is left alone to unravel the mystery and save their lives.”

Kef Lee, Toby Gadison and Karin Duseva round out the cast. The film was shot in location in The Berkshires. READ MORE

We’ve just landed a series of behind-the-scenes images and Cannes sales art for The Secret Village, Swamy Kandan’s indie horror starring Jonathan Bennett (Memorial Day, Van Wilder:Freshman Year, Mean Girls), Ali Faulkner (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1), SAG nominee Stelio Savante (A Million Colours, Stealing Roses, Ugly Betty) and Richard Riehle (Bridesmaids, Halloween II, A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas). Written by Swamy Kandan and Jason Whittier, the indie is executive produced by Raj T. Rajan MD, produced by Swamy Kandan and co produced by Sridhar Ranganath. Brought to the screen by Midnight Friends films with Christopher Holmes (The Patriot, Tears Of The Sun) confirmed as editor.

Midnight Friends Films announces that Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls), Ali Faulkner (pictured below; Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn), Stelio Savante (A Million Colours, Starship Troopers Marauder, Poe) and Richard Riehle (Bridesmaids, A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas) are headlining the cast of the psychological thriller The Secret Village.

While information is being kept to a minimum, The Secret Village is said to follow two strangers that rent a house in order to research a mysterious outbreak of mass hysteria in a small village.
