[Interview] Antonio Banderas and Elena Anaya on The Skin I Live In

We don’t want to tell you too much about Pedro Almadovar’s latest film, The Skin I Live In (review). It’s best to be surprised by the twists and turns of the plot. To explain its interest to us, suffice it to say it is basically a mad scientist movie with Antonio Banderas as the mad scientist.

Dr. Robert Ledgard (Banderas) is a burn doctor specializing in a groundbreaking form of new skin for burn patients. However, it seems his test subject, Vera (Elena Anaya), is maybe not a willing volunteer. Since this is Almadovar, it’s more of an art film. There won’t be a mob of angry villagers with torches and pitchforks, but if you want to delve into the secrets and experience the sick exploration of the plot, The Skin I Live In is for you.

Full Spanish Trailer For ‘The Skin I Live In’ Brings The Weirdness

The more I see from The Skin I Live In, the more I want to sit down and soak in all the weird wonders of Pedro Almodóvar’s tale of revenge. The full Spanish trailer recently went live and, even if you don’t understand the language at all, the two minutes really give you a better sense of what’s going than all the teasers so far. I don’t think I’m going to get the Lynchian wonkiness that I wanted from it, but I’m sure it’ll still be one of the stranger things we see this year.

The film was just confirmed for the Toronto International Film Festival in September (keeping my fingers crossed for Fantastic Fest), and will be released stateside by Sony on October 14. Check out the new trailer inside.
