Review: ‘The Spider’ #6

A new arc begins in issue #6 of The Spider from Dynamite Entertainment. Unfortunately, it doesn’t manage to quite live up to the precedent established in its first five issues. The Spider’s trademark humor is largely absent, the art is uneven, and the villain is, well, less than intimidating. That said, there are some bright spots as well; new characters are introduced into the world of “The Spider” and there’s an interesting backstory to one of them. But it’s not enough to save this disappointing issue. READ MORE

Review: ‘The Spider’ #5

The first story arc of The Spider concludes in issue #5, as the pulpy anti-hero attempts to save the girl and the city from the zombie gas of the villainess Anput. Yes, you read that right. Zombie gas. For those of you who have not been following “The Spider,” it follows Richard Wentworth, ex-soldier, as he wages a one-man war on crime in New York City. Surrounded by a colorful cast of characters, his alter-ego – basically, Rorschach meets Spider-Man – now faces an Egyptian terrorist who may have ties to his father, who manufactures chemical weapons and other nasty things. It’s another excellent issue of one of the many pleasant surprises to come from Dynamite this year. READ MORE

Review: ‘The Spider’ #1

What do you get when you cross Batman and Rorschach? If the answer isn’t obvious, reading the first 3 pages of Dynamites newest vigilante tale, The Spider, has your answer. It’s not often, as The Spider points out, that heroes in comics, tv, movies, etc, get their hands dirty, but when a highly trained military personnel decides enough is enough…well I won’t ruin the blood pumping surprise. OMFG Of The Day: An Epic First Look At Moonstone’s ‘The Spider’ Noir!

I think that I might have wet myself in sheer excitement after opening up the preview of Moonstone’s newest horror/noir thriller, “THE SPIDER”. One part “SPIRIT” and two parts “SIN CITY”, the series looks to be an eye-pleasing treat for fans who lust for the the good old days of suave vigilantes, sexy women, and a healthy dose of pulp. So, soggy pants aside, inside you can check out a 5 page preview of the first issue which hits stores tomorrow, and get all the details. (Yes, I am fully aware that there was more innuendo in this posting than in a 13 year olds dialogue.)
