With the third season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” behind us, it’s time to start looking forward to Season 4. And one of the guys that has his eye on the prize in that regard is Robert Kirkman. And he recently spoke with IGN about his plans for the future and his thoughts on the Season 3 finale.

We already know that for October’s return David Morrissey will return as a series regular as The Governor. The British actor initially signed on for a one-season role to play the famed villain from the comics created by Robert Kirkman on which the TV series is based. In the Image/Skybound comics, the Governor fails to survive a brutal showdown at the prison with Rick.

[TV] Shocker: Andrew Lincoln Resigns From “The Walking Dead” Citing “Creative Differences” With New Showrunner…

Update: Just in case it wasn’t made clear by the last line of this article – APRIL FOOL’S!

On the heels of the season finale, it was announced last night that David Morrissey will return as a series regular as The Governor on AMC’s The Walking Dead.” The British actor initially signed on for a one-season role to play the famed villain from the comics created by Robert Kirkman on which the TV series is based. In the Image/Skybound comics, the Governor fails to survive a brutal showdown at the prison with Rick, but in the series, he lives on to fight another day…

With that comes some really lame news out of left field. It was announced today that Andrew Lincoln will not return as Rick Grimes in the series’ fourth season this fall. The release cited “creative differences,” while sources close to us explain that he was clashing with new showrunner Scott Gimple, who will take over for the much-beloved Glen Mazzara. While it’s concerning enough that they need to recast the series lead, there’s growing concern inside AMC’s offices that other regulars may also revolt and exit the zombie cabler.

As well as Morrissey, Danai Gurira is already contractually obliged to return as Michonne, so insiders explain that the show may really break off the tracks of the comic arc, and follow Michonne as the new series protagonist.

We’ll update you as soon as we hear more, which will probably be tomorrow, the second of April.

Watch A Pianist Cover The ‘Walking Dead’ Theme While Surrounded By Zombies

Comic book legend Stan Lee’s Youtube channel World of Heroes has just launched a new series called Cosplay Piano where they mash together music themes you may recognize from movies and television with a bit of cosplay. First up is the theme from AMC’s The Walking Dead, covered by the intensely talented pianist Sonya Belosouva, and a bit of Violin play by a zombiefied Eriko Tsuji before she gets tragically shot down.

I’m not sure if I’m more in awe of Belosouva’s talent with the piano or her remarkable ability to keep cool while surrounded by the undead. Check it out.

‘The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’ Review: An Apocalypse Not Worth Surviving

Like many of you, I’ve been skeptical since the beginning. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’s marketing campaign has been a rocky one, after being soured by a series of disappointing trailers — both fake and official — screenshots, and an obvious push by Activision to get the game out during the third season of the television series. It didn’t help that the game was quietly crammed into the very busy march lineup, almost as if Activision realized the game wouldn’t live up to expectations so they let it die in the shadow of several of this year’s more high profile releases.

I won’t bury the lead: this game isn’t good. If you’re interested in finding out just how bad it is, I suggest reading on.

‘The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’ Is Out Today, Let’s Prepare With A Launch Trailer

Not content to let it fly completely under the radar, Activision released a launch trailer for The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct today. It follows Daryl as he searches for his older brother Merle. TJ received his copy earlier today, so I’m waiting to hear back from him on how it stacks up. Neither of us were terribly impressed with everything that was shown prior to the game’s release, but I still have some hope left that it’ll be a solidly entertaining game. Go Behind The Scenes With ‘The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’

The bar for games based on The Walking Dead has been set pretty high, and Survival Instinct’s tumultuous marketing campaign hasn’t impressed TJ or I in our premature evaluation of the game. [TV] Am I In An Undead Nightmare? “The Walking Dead” Hires New Writers For Season Four.

I am so sick of talking about the behind-the-scenes shenanigans over at AMC. Without the help of Lionsgate, the cabler has been treading water with their zombie series “The Walking Dead,” having publicly battled writers and showrunners for three seasons now. The show has gotten better, sure, but it’s still nowhere near as good as “Mad Men” or “Breaking Bad”; in fact, I think it’s beyond repair. But whatever, everyone loves it, and I support that. And even through all of these trepidations, AMC is still working their ass off to fix the problems. At least they’re trying.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is bulking up its writers’ room for season four. Curtis Gwinn and Channing Powell will join Matt Negrete on the staff of the zombie drama under new showrunner Scott Gimple. Supervising producer/writer Gwinn counts Adult Swim comedy NTSF:SD:SVU and MTV’s zombie parody Death Valley among his credits, while co-executive producer/writer Powell — like Negrete — is a White Collar alum.

The duo join a staff that also includes Gimple, who has been with the series since season two, executive producer Robert Kirkman (who created the comics on which the drama is based), Negrete, newly promoted executive producer Greg Nicotero, Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert, Evan T. Reilly, Angela Kang and Nichole Beattie, among others.

The additions come as “Walking Dead” bulks up following the departure of Glen Mazzara, who exited the series as showrunner in December when the network renewed the series for its fourth season.

[Random Cool] Zombie Edition: Best Undead Convention Makeup EVER; Zombie Perfume; “The Walking Dead” Imagined As A ’90s Show!

The best zombie makeup job to ever walk the halls of a Comic-Con? Yes, I believe so! Freakmo blew my mind on Instagram with a series of photos from her recent excursion to the Perth Comic-Con, Sunday March 10th. “My face was made with Sculpt Gel (2-part silicone paste), acrylic nails, tooth enamel paints, the skin illustrator fx palette, and a few different kinds of fake blood,” she said. “We were swamped by people taking photos all day. Now I know how it feels to be a celebrity ;P” she joked. Check out a series of photographs inside.

Demeter has created zombie-themed scents for both him and her. Says the site: “So you’re a Zombie. Or you know a Zombie. And you might become a Zombie. Any way you slice and dice it, you’ll need different kinds of fragrance. Fragrances that can make the dead simply pass by without offending. Because only Demeter Fragrance Library could make a Zombie fragrance eminently wearable.” How does “Zombie for Him” smell like? “Think forest floor. Zombie for Him is a combination of dried leaves, mushrooms, mildew, moss and earth.” As for “Her”: “A slightly lighter version of the Men’s fragrance with a touch of Dregs from the bottom of the wine barrel for that feminine touch.” Too bad their labels stink.

We May Have To Wait Until Fall 2014 For Another Season Of Telltale’s ‘The Walking Dead’ [UPDATE: It's Coming Fall 2013]

Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead was one of the best games to release last year. It was emotional, dramatic, and unforgettable. It was also buggy, but they’re working on that. Its success guaranteed a second season, but it looks like we may have to wait a while for it. After receiving a BAFTA for Best Story for The Walking Dead, Telltale co-founder and CEO Dan Connors told Eurogamer “We’re aiming for fall next year [for season two].” Thankfully, it looks like they have something else in the works to keep us busy until then.

UPDATE: Speaking with Game Informer, a Telltale rep said season two is actually coming this year, not in 2014. “The current estimated release window for Season Two of The Walking Dead is for fall of ‘this’ year (2013), and not ‘next’ year (2014) as has been reported after a recent interview. We apologize for any confusion and thank you and all of our fans for your continued excitement for Telltale’s series.” Phew.

Another “The Walking Dead Theme Goes Metal” Video For You

Apparently there is something about Bear McCreary’s theme for The Walking Dead that brings out the metal in people. Below is YouTube user Bryce Goertzen‘s rockin’ cover of the now infamous theme. Give it a watch and lemme know what you think!

Personally, I think it’s a bit too shredtastic and in-your-face but I’ll give the guy a few things: 1) Those are some seriously practiced guitar faces/poses. I think he’s got one of those ballet studio mirrors that spans a whole wall in his room just so he can see how metal he looks. 2) Anyone that has a Jeff Loomis Schecter guitar is okay in my book. I’ve always wanted one of those guitars but that could be because I think it’ll magically transform me into a songwriter of Nevermore caliber. Delusions of grandeur, I know, but one can hope. [TV] Robert Kirkman To Bring His Upcoming Exorcism Comic To The Tube

Robert Kirkman (“The Walking Dead”), is teaming with executive producer David Alpert, Fox International Channels and his Image Comics imprint Circle of Confusion to bring a new drama to TV screens sometime soon. Per THR, “the potential series is based on Kirkman’s upcoming comic series set in the world of exorcism.

The currently untitled show, “centers on Kyle Barnes, who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a spiritual journey to find answers but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.

Kirkman said in a statement, ““Sharon Tal Yguado and the entire team at Fox International Channels have been instrumental in making The Walking Dead the worldwide success that it has become. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to continue working with this forward-thinking and extremely talented group.

I’m not sure about you, but aren’t exorcism movies enough of a slow burn? I sure hope they don’t dial back the pace even more to make it fit for TV.

[TV] Season 4 Of “The Walking Dead” To Feature Less Running And “More Character”, Also Rick Won’t Always Be Crazy

Season 4 of AMC’s The Walking Dead commences production in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, May 6th. The current Season 3 is a high water mark for the historically spotty show in terms of both ratings and quality, so naturally more than a few folks are curious about the recent decision to replace the responsible showrunner, Glen Mazzara, with Scott M. Gimple (who may be even better – who knows).

Paleyfest, an annual event that offers some pretty great panels and roundtables with cast and creatives from various TV shows, held its “Walking Dead” event this past Friday and, per EW, there were some pretty interesting revelations about Season 4.
