One of the coolest and underrated Japanese genre films is the crazy violent 2LDK (clip below), which refers to small living spaces that include two bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen.
Originally set to be remade by Relativity, Highland Film Group is now taking over producing duties and has set idle Hands and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For star Jessica Alba to replace Gemma Arterton in the lead role of a comedic remake, Bloody Disgusting learned.
In the U.S. take, “Kate and Vanessa are co-stars on a past-its-prime sitcom and roomates in real life. When they realize they are both up for the same lead role in a big movie that could catapult their careers into stardom, the roomates will go from best friends to worst enemies over the course of one action-packed night.”
In another move, Kevin Connolly has been slotted to replace Andy Fickman in the director’s chair. Bert V. Royal penned the remake. READ MORE
Some old news that has recently been picked up is that the Indomina Group has acquired North American rights to Bart Layton’s The Imposter, says THR. The documentary had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will receive a theatrical release later this year. “The suspenseful story of ‘The Imposter’ involves the disappearance of a 13-year-old Texas boy in 1994 who miraculously surfaces in Spain years later in the form of a man who may or may be the same person.”
We’ve also landed the official plot crunch for The Wright Girls, the American remake to the Japanese classic 2LDK, which will star Gemma Arterton as one of the two female protags. “Vanessa and Katie are best friends and roommates who are living the Hollywood dream by starring together on a hit television show. Ambitious and eager to advance their careers, the two both set their sights on the same choice movie role. A wicked game of sabotage begins, which soon escalates into a visceral, bloody catfight filled with violence, mutilation… and nearly murder.”
David Ellison’s Skydance Productions has set Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island,Alexander) and Patrick Lussier to script an original science fiction adventure based on an idea hatched at Skydance, reports Deadline. Unfortunately, they are keeping the idea close to the vest. Lussier’s script credits include Wes Craven’s Dracula trilogies, My Bloody Valentine 3D and Drive Angry 3D. He is separately co-writing an untitled thriller for producer Jason Blum that Lussier will direct.
Lastly, Twitch has shared the first ever trailer for Eron Sheean’s indie thriller, Errors Of The Human Body, which stars Michael Eklund, Karoline Herfurth, Tomas Lemarquis and Rik Mayall. In the film, “Canadian scientist Dr Geoff Burton takes up a position at a new institute in wintry Dresden, Germany. His contribution to their most important project – a human regeneration gene-has the potential to make something miraculous out of a personal tragedy that has haunted him for years. Errors of the Human Body is about one man’s quest for redemption from his own disturbing past, set within the mysterious world of genetic engineering.”
While producers originally wanted Megan Fox for the role, THR says that Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans and the forthcoming Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) is in negotiations to star in The Wright Girls, a dark comedy-thriller from Relativity and Atlas Entertainment.
As Bloody already exclusively reported back in February, Andy Fickman is in negotiations to direct with Bert Royal (Easy A) penning the screenplay.
Inspired by the Japanese movie 2LDK, “the story revolves around two young actresses who live together, pretend to be best friends and are co-stars on a successful television show. In reality, they detest each other and go to extreme and violent lengths to do one another in when they end up competing for the same movie role.” The role of the other actress has not been cast. Relativity Media is being the project that’s slated to begin production this coming May. Bert Royal (Easy A ) penned the current draft about two actresses rooming together who are both competing for the same part in a film, and while waiting for the answer as to who gets the role, turn on each other in their apartment in a flurry of violent-erotic behavior.
