See The Mock Video Store Created For The ‘V/H/S’ Premiere; Reopens For Business Online This Friday!

To celebrate the highly anticipated release of our horror anthology, V/H/S, for one night only, London took a nostalgic trip back in time to the Video rental store! Below we’ve added a behind-the-scenes look at the special event, which I would have died to attend, as well as details as to how you can be part of the re-opening online this Friday!

Home of V/H/S: “Cellar Rentals Video Store” to return for one day only online!

“The scariest, rawest horror movie of the year” (Rolling Stone) has finally arrived in the UK! The celebrated portmanteau horror V/H/S is out now on DVD, Blu-ray and download through Momentum Pictures (in the UK). Having already opened ‘Cellar Rentals’ in London courtesy of Momentum Pictures where a rapturous crowd were transported back to the heady days of searching through racks upon racks of VHS tapes in order to find that perfect Saturday night scare, they decided that one night in London (after a lot of sorrow from people outside London who couldn’t come) just wasn’t enough, so they are bringing it to the rest of us…

To welcome the arrival, they are reopening the doors to ‘Cellar Rentals’ on Friday, February 1st for four hours from 2pm GMT (6am PST) to 6pm GMT (10am PST) via Twitter, where a hosted nostalgia-thon will allow us all to chat about videos of yesteryear, the arrival of V/H/S on DVD and Blu-ray and download in the UK plus… the final chance EVER to win a copy of V/H/S on VHS in the UK! We’ll be using the #InsertVHS4Fear hashtag from @fetchpublicity so make sure you are there to join in on the antics. Do not miss out! There will also be a link to a store filled with cool retro clips, trailers and more to digest and send us all back down memory lane one final time. Details and video inside! READ MORE

Here’s Your First Look At Ti West’s Top Secret ‘The Sacrament’!!

Bloody Disgusting is excited to share the first ever look at The Sacrament, the latest genre offering from horror fav Ti West (The Innkeepers, V/H/S, The House of the Devil, The Roost)

The first still takes us to the Savannah, Georgia set where star AJ Bowen (The Signal, You’re Next) is on the run from something terrible. It’s a bit reminiscent of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Joe Swanberg, Kentucker Audley, Amy Seimetz and Gene Jones also star.

The Sacrament was written by West and is produced and presented by Hostel and Cabin Fever‘s Eli Roth, alongside Jacob Jaffke, Peter Phok and Worldview’s Christopher Woodrow and Molly Conners. The IMP Nominates ‘V/H/S’ For Best Horror Movie Poster!

We’re incredibly excited to report that IMP Awards, the premiere poster website, has nominated the theatrical V/H/S one-sheet for “Best Horror Poster”!

Bringing back memories of the poster for Visiting Hours this skull image made up of someone’s deranged video collection manages to hint at the plot of the film while still providing a creepy image,” says the site.

Designed by Gravillis Inc. for Magnet Releasing, the poster is nominated against The Cabin in the Woods, The Woman in Black, The Possession and In Their Skin.

V/H/S is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and even Netflix Instant. Another tape was discovered – S-VHS – and will premiere at Sundance this coming weekend. READ MORE

[Random Cool] ‘V/H/S’ Gets The Infamous Movie Bar Treatment!

My brother just e-mailed me over a link to a website called Movie Bar Code, which carries one simple premise: they take every single frame from a movie, compress it into a single line, and then line them up next to each other so you get a bar code.

Added just the other day was a barcode for V/H/S, made me insanely excited. It’s super cool, in my opinion at least, so I wanted to share it with you guys. (I love how you can plainly see the Skype portion.)

In addition, this is a great time to let you know that V/H/S is now available on Netflix Instant, as well as DVD, Blu-ray, and various VOD platforms. Thanks again for all of your support! READ MORE

‘V/H/S’ Actually ON VHS In The UK!! US Version Forthcoming!!

Magnolia released V/H/S (write your reviews) on DVD and Blu-ray this week (along with iTunes and VOD etc…). But there’s another, older – and titular – format on which the film can be seen. Actual VHS tape! Total Film has the rundown on the UK release (via Momentum films) of the film on its “intended” format.

The logistics of such an exercise were far from easy, and by all accounts Momentum Pictures had to undertake considerable research to get big-box-sized tapes made up which include many nods to the glory days of rental stores. Getting hold of these tapes won’t be easy though. Only 300 numbered copies have been manufactured and Momentum are promising a unique V/H/S event in January at which lucky fans will be able to get hold of them. Further details will emerge on the Total Film VHS Hub.

V/H/S comes from filmmakers Adam Wingard (You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die, Pop Skull), Simon Barrett (You’re Next, Dead Birds, Red Sands), Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Roost, The Innkeepers), David Bruckner (The Signal), Joe Swanberg (Silver Bullets), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead), and Radio Silence.

[Good Scenes In Bad Movies] ‘Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever’ Edition!!

I’m not convinced I’ve even seen Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever in its entirety, it was before my time at Bloody-Disgusting and – while I was a fan of the first ever since it came out on DVD – I never athletically sought ought the sequel. But The Wolfman did, and he didn’t much care for it (even though he loves director Ti West’s other films). But there’s one scene he likes! Sometimes finding a saving grace in a film comes down to finding just one scene that really hits it out of the park. And that’s precisely the point The Wolfman (@TheWolfmanCometh – on the boards) aims to illustrate here in his column!

We’re going to, on occasion, start examining good scenes that outpace the general quality of the film that contains them. And we hope you’ll come along for the ride! Head inside for his take on Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever! READ MORE

Green Band Trailer For ‘ABCs Of Death’ Less Bloody, Still Awesome

Magnet Releasing will release The ABCs of Death on various On Demand platforms on January 31 with a limited theatrical run set for March 8. Last month you saw the gory red band trailer, and now a cleaned-up all ages trailer (with some new footage) is ready to sell you on the chaos. I can’t wait to see this!

Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABCs of Death is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

Lionsgate Schedules Hotly Anticipated ‘You’re Next’ For August 2013

Well, that took awhile. After scooping up the film at the 2011 TIFF, Lionsgate has been sitting on You’re Next, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s incredible home invasion slasher that stars Sharni Vinson, Nick Tucci, Wendy Glenn, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Margaret Laney, Amy Seimetz, Ti West, Calvin Reeder, Larry Fessenden, Kate Lyn Sheil, Barbara Crampton and Rob Moran. Presumably, the issue of releasing arose when Lionsgate acquired Summit, leaving few slots for their upcoming horror releases. Now, a year after being sold in a massive bidding war, Collider reports that the Gate will now release in theaters on August 23, 2013.

In the film, which received rave reviews (read mine here), “A family comes under a terrifying and sadistic attack during a reunion getaway. Barricaded in their secluded country home, they have to fight off a barrage of axes, crossbows and machetes from both inside and outside the house. Unfortunately for the killers, one of the victims proves to have a talent for fighting back.
