Updated with a new batch of stills, courtesy of Collider.

“Brit stars Toby Jones and Sienna Miller play Hollywood icons Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren in “The Girl,” an upcoming HBO movie about the relationship between the master of suspense and his notable leading lady that premieres October 20.

And if you thought Hitchcock’s films were intense, Jones tells the site, wait until you see the legendary director’s obsession with then-showbiz neophyte Hedren unfold on screen. The actor, whose career includes The Hunger Games, My Week With Marilyn and W., notes that Hitchcock first noticed the blonde beauty in a commercial and soon wanted no one but her to play The Birds’ lead Melanie – a part Hitchcock referred to as “the girl.”

[BD Review] ‘Red Lights’ Is A Misguided And Boring Waste Of Potential

Now in theaters everywhere is Red Lights, Rodrigo Cortes’ followup to his Sundance hit Buried.

BD’s Ryan Daley wrote in with his review from last Sundance (we’re republishing it) – to say he didn’t care for the film would be putting it mildly.

What’s most frustrating about Red Lights is that it’s one of those movies that seems like it’s going to get better at any given second. The performances are great; you can tell the entire cast believes in this thing. But ultimately, the movie serves as the perfect example of an excellent idea, poorly executed. Even the final twist is poorly conceived, packing far less of a punch than Cortes probably intended––sort of an “anti-payoff”, in the words of one colleague.

In the film, “Robert De Niro stars as Simon Silver, a legendary psychic, perhaps the most famously gifted of all time, who returns after thirty years of mysterious absence to become the world’s greatest challenge to orthodox science and professional skeptics. Meanwhile, paranormal fraud investigator Tom (Cillian Murphy) begins to develop a dense obsession Silver, whose magnetism is enhanced dangerously with each new manifestation of inexplicable phenomena.”

It is truly an honor and a privilege to bring “Catching Fire,” the second chapter of Suzanne’s beloved trilogy, to the big screen,” Said Francis. “I fell in love with the characters, the themes and the world she created and this chapter opens all of these elements up in such a thrilling, emotional and surprising way. I can’t wait to dive right into it and bring this chapter to life along with the truly superb cast and filmmakers involved.

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth will reprise their roles as Katniss, Peeta and Gale, with Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, and Woody Harrelson also returning to their respective roles.

The Hunger Games

The Scholastic book, the first of a trilogy, has a “Battle Royale” meets “Running Man” feel to it, tackling contemporary culture by telling the story of an America where the subjugated districts must pay tribute in the form of a boy and a girl who are forced to participate in a televised battle to the death.

Alternate: The pic is set in post-apocalyptic America, Hunger Games introduces 16-year-old heroine Katniss Everdeen, who must participate in a fight-to-the-death annual event called the Hunger Games. The battles are televised, and pit youths from each of the Capitol’s 12 Districts against each other.

New ‘Hunger Games’ One Sheet Way Less Ambitious Than The First…

HungerGamesLand12012 New Hunger Games One Sheet Way Less Ambitious Than The First...

A new one sheet for The Hunger Games has hit the web and it zeroes in on the character of Katniss. This being opposed to the former poster’s emphasis on the spectacle of the games which, were I in this film’s target audience, would be the main point of appeal for me.

In theaters March 23 from director Gary Ross, the film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Dayo Okeniyi, Amandla Stenberg, Chris Mark, Jacqueline Emerson, Wes Bentley, Lenny Kravitz, Toby Jones, and Stanley Tucci.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Sienna Miller (pictured below; G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Toby Jones (Red Lights, The Hunger Games, The Mist) are to play Tippi Hedren and Alfred Hitchcock, respectively, in BBC Two drama, The Girl.

The film will chronicle the director’s obsessive relationship with his The Birds star.
