[TV] AMC Outdoes Itself With Blu-ray Set For “The Walking Dead” Season Three

While you’re tuned into AMC later this week watching the back half of The Walking Dead season three (premiering Sunday, February 10 at 9pm ET), you can start salivating over this DVD/Blu-ray box set many of you will eventually buy.

There’s a rundown of the box over at MTV and the whole thing seems pretty cool and very unique. It’s based on The Governor’s custom TV set-up and apparently even requires water. The whole thing was created in conjunction with Robert Kirkman, Todd McFarlane and AMC and features five decapitated zombie heads floating in water.

Kirkman says, “McFarlane has a very intimate relationship with AMC, so I was approving concepts on this Blu-Ray case before Season Three even aired. So while we were building things on set, Todd and the team at McFarlane Toys were coming in and scanning actors and scanning props. So having them come in and do the fish tank with the severed heads while we were still building it for the show is a pretty cool thing, and I think makes these products much more accurate and cooler for the fans.

There’s no release date for the set as of yet, but you can bet we’ll keep you posted. Head inside to check out some images! READ MORE

Is ‘Haunt’ Getting A Relaunch?

Bleeding Cool’s got some keen sleuthing skills. As the site points out, issue #29 of Haunt ended with a bang and then the words, “To be continued in the pages of Spawn”.

When BC asked The question asked Todd McFarlane, he said, “I am looking to retool the book and make it more creepy. I want the word HAUNT to be much more meaningful to the impact of the stories in the future. I can introduce some new ideas for the book within the pages of SPAWN then bring the title back out again.” Smells like a relaunch. READ MORE

Image Pays Tribute After Twenty Years Of Spawn

Spawn has had the hearts of horror lovers since the early 90s, when cheesy dialogue and huge muscles were all the rage. However, over the past 20 years Spawn has consistently been one of the flagship titles in horror comics. When Todd McFarlane first brought Spawn onto the scene it was a completely new, nothing like it had ever been done before. Time sure does fly, and now 20 years after the inception, Image is paying tribute where it is due. To celebrate the milestone, the original creator, Todd McFarlane will resume his duties as cover artist for the rest of 2012. More importantly, he will be writing the 20th anniversary issue #220, set for release this June. Read on for the skinny…

‘Spawn’ Lawsuit Settled, Gaiman And McFarlane Shake Hands

Spawn13112 Spawn Lawsuit Settled, Gaiman And McFarlane Shake Hands

If you’re a fan of Todd McFarlane, and are still hoping for thatSpawn reboot, then this could be a glimmer of good news. A faint, slight, glimmer mind you. Don’t hold your breath just yet.

Reports are coming in today that Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane have settled their lawsuit – a matter that also tied up authorship rights (or at least the clarity of those rights) to several characters in the Spawn universe.

Per the AP, “Fantasy industry giants Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane finally called a truce in their long-running legal feud over who owns which characters in the Spawn universe, according to court documents. Jeffrey Simmons, one of Gaiman’s attorneys, said terms of the agreement were confidential. A jury had already found Gaiman a 50 percent owner of content in two Spawn issues and the first three issues of a Spawn spin-off. Simmons said reiterating that declaration would block any appeal. ‘This is intended to put an end to the whole thing. It’s fair to say both parties are pleased to have this resolved,’ Simmons said.

I really don’t care if there’s another Spawn movie. But if you do, it’s likely that McFarlane’s insistence on writing, producing and directing the film is a far bigger financing hurdle than the legal matter with Gaiman. READ MORE

INTERVIEW: Joe Casey Talks New Direction For Image’s ‘Haunt’!

When it was announced that co-creator/writer Robert Kirkman and artist Greg Capullo, would be leaving “HAUNT”, there was a lot of speculation as to who would come on board to fill their creative shoes. “HAUNT” is one of Image Comics best selling monthly titles and part of the series’ appeal had been the creative powerhouse of two of comic’s biggest names.

For co-creator Todd McFarlane, who publishes “HAUNT” under his Image imprint, it would have been an easy to replace Kirkman and Capullo with a carbon copy creative team and have the book continue to coast in the current direction. Not afraid to rock the boat and shake things up, McFarlane tapped writer Joe Casey (Godland, Butcher Baker the Righteous Maker) and artist Nathan Fox (Dark Reign: Zodiac, DMZ, Blue Estate) to give “HAUNT” a complete creative facelift starting with issue #19.

Bloody-Disgusting.com caught up with writer Joe Casey to discuss the new creative direction of Haunt and how he plans to give the character more of a horror vibe by mixing together buckets of bloody violence and artwork that can “scare the shit outta people”.

Image Comics has also given Bloody-Disgusting readers an exclusive 6-page preview of Haunt #19 after the jump.

The Facts, Status on New ‘Spawn’ Movie

Website My DVD Insider caught up with comic artists legend Todd McFarlane, who was very open when talking about his plans for an R-rated Spawn reboot. After jokingly acknowledging that “Spawn” fans of the ’90s are now old enough to see an R-rated film, he updated the status of the screenplay:

I’m three quarters through it,” he explains. “I’ll finish it and put it on a shelf for about a week. What usually happens is, I come back to it so I can see all the flaws. I do a rewrite and there’s a first draft at that point.

Speaking on studio interest, McFarlane is iron first on his demands: he will only make it if he can write, produce, direct (probably so Spawn doesn’t end up with a nose, again).

[A few studios have phoned me to talk about the project] and when I walk into these pitch meetings, I go here’s the story. I give them the broad strokes. Then I go, here’s the non-negotiable part: I write, produce, direct. That’s it,” he states adding that it WILL be low budget, therefore he might as well be the “schmuck” who directs it.

Lastly, on the plot: “In this new version, there are no supervillains, archenemies or any of that. It’s just a spook movie, something scary going bump in the night.

Todd McFarlane Talks ‘Spawn’ Pitch, Low Budget Plans, and Scares

The popularity of “Spawn” is nowhere near what it was when the first film adaptation arrived in theaters (boasting a then incredible soundtrack), yet creator Todd McFarlane continues to tease fans with the possibility of a new (and hopefully way better) film. In an interview with the LA Times he reveals that with the success of the “Batman” and ‘Spider-Man” franchises, his phone has been ringing off the hook. But he says that he’s doesn’t like the idea of “some big special-effects movie with a supervillain in there,” instead opting for something smaller. You can read the details inside.
