Tom Morello can be described many different way and his resume of accomplishments is unparalleled. As the guitarist for Rage Against The Machine, Audio Slave, and Nightwatchman, Morello’s unconventional style challenged conventional guitar playing and re-imagined rock guitar for a whole new generation. Rolling Stone Magazine named him one of their “100 Greatest Guitarists” and his accomplishments on guitar stand up to the greats like Hendrix, Page, Rhoads, and Wylde. On top of his accomplishments as a musician, Morello’s commitment to political activism that is truly inspiring as he’s spent time helping organizations like Sweet Homes New Orleans post-Katrina and Amnesty International.
Now Morello can add author to his resume, as he’s just completed the 12-issue comic book series, “Orchid”, for Dark Horse Comics with artist Scott Hepburn. “Orchid” is the story of a teenage prostitute living in a post-apocalyptic future and trying to survive under the brutal rule of tyranny. After watching her mother get brutally murdered in front of her own eyes, she is empowered to become the leader of the uprising and overthrow the oppressive government using the powers of an ancient relic. Morello adds horrific monsters and political messages into the mix to create a powerful and emotionally compelling tale of sacrifice and redemption that is truly larger than life.
Morello was kind enough to sit down with Bloody-Disgusting to chat about the conclusion to his 12-issue epic, post-apocalyptic dystopia in “Orchid”. Throughout the interview Morello comes across as a intelligent and passionate artist that has a true passion for the creative process, which he spills out on the pages of “Orchid”. He spoke at length about how he successfully made the transition from rock god to comic book author, and how Orchid artist Scott Hepburn managed to squeeze some bloody beheadings into the book. This cover sees singer David Draiman (Disturbed) take on Ozzy Osbourne‘s vocals and is joined by Halestorm‘s Lzzy Hale, who tackles Lita Ford‘s parts. Device‘s upcoming self-titled debut features ex-Filter guitarist Gene Lenardo, who co-wrote the album. Joining as the touring incantation is Evanescence drummer Will Hunt and Dope guitarist Virus.

Rapper LL Cool J will be giving fans a dose of hard rock and metal on his upcoming album Authentic (out April 30th) by having guest appearances from guitarist Eddie Van Halen and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello. Rapper Snoop Dogg will also be making an appearance. Van Halen will be featured on the 12th track of the album. Website VHND is stating that the name of the track is “Getting Paper” but that this title was announced last month and may be out of date.

Device, the project from Disturbed vocalist David Draiman, has released a 30-second teaser for their upcoming single “Vilify”, which hits radios Feb. 19th. The self-titled album will be released Apr. 9th. The project features Draiman on vocals and Filter‘s Gene Lenardo on guitars. Various guest musicians are on the album, including Lizzy Hale (Halestorm), M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), and many more.

David Draiman (singer of Disturbed) has let loose some details surrounding his industrial band Device. The first bit of information that has come forth is that the first single “Vilify” from the debut record will hit radios on Feb. 19th. A video is being filmed today. Next is that the record has a tentative release date of April 9th.
The album will have guest appearances from Terry “Geezer” Butler (Black Sabbath), Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion), M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold), Serj Tankian (System Of A Down), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), and Lizzy Hale (Halestorm).

Artist Maxim Dalton painted a poster of 35 of the greatest guitar players ever.
