Van Halen Release New Single ‘Tattoo’: It Kinda Sucks

Van Halen Release New Single Tattoo: It Kinda Sucks
Van Halen have released Tattoo, the first single from their upcoming album A Different Kind Of Truth, which comes out Feb. 7th. You can check out the official video below. Problem is, the song kinda sucks. No, scratch that. It really sucks. Even if you took out the poorly synced video, the fact that it looks like David Lee Roth keeps forgetting his lines, and the “we’re gonna shoot in black and white for the sake of looking artistic even though NOTHING ARTISTIC IS HAPPENING” look, the song is just plain boring. There is no spice or pizazz. There is no excitement. It’s just a generic rock song that is destined to go in one ear and out the other. Honestly, even though I listened to it just a few minutes ago, I’ve already forgotten the melodies.
Check it out below and, if for some reason you still feel so inclined, you can preorder the album on iTunes.

[News Bites] Nightwish, Orphaned Land, White Willow, New Medicine
Nightwish have announced January 10th, 2012 as the release date for their upcoming album Imaginaerum. It’s their first new release since 2007′s Dark Passion Play, their first album with new singer Anette Olzon. This new album is going to also be the soundtrack to a feature film with the same name.
Keyboardist/songwriter Tuomas Holopainen states, “It was important from the very beginning that the album would work as its own individual piece of art, as well. It is a thematic album about life itself, about imagination, love, goodness and beauty, with a touch of darkness and melancholy, which are strongly included in all of those things mentioned.”

Megadeth Resurrects Gigantour With Motorhead, Volbeat, And Lacuna Coil

Back in 2005, I was lucky enough to go and check out the first ever Gigantour, the here-and-there summer festival started by Megadeth. Needless to say, for the ticket price (I think it was something like $25), I definitely got my money’s worth. Now, Megadeth has announced that they are resurrecting the tour. However, some things have changed: First of all, it’s not going to be in the summer. Rather, the tour will start towards the end of January and run through early March. Second, there apparently won’t be a full day of music. Instead, only three other bands will be joining Megadeth on stage: Motorhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil. Tour dates have yet to be announced, so keep an eye on Megadeth.com.

I’m still very interested in checking out the show but it seems like this could’ve been called something else. Imagine if Ozzfest was Ozzy headlining with Black Label Society and Fear Factory attached on the tour and that was it. Nope, not the same. Not the same at all.

Reunited Spineshank Set To Tour US

Alternative metal band Spineshank has reunited after nearly eight years with a new album, Anger Denial Acceptance, and plans for a US tour. The new album does not have a current release date, though one should be coming pretty soon I imagine. Here are some quotes from the guys:

“The songs on this record are more personal than anything we’ve ever done, and I think it shows when we play them live,” states drummer Tommy Decker. “This is our most varied and challenging record yet, and I can’t wait to get out there and bring these new songs to life.”

“We’re not interested in living in the past, we want to push forward,” adds guitarist Mike Sarkisyan. “We just finished the best record of our careers and we’re really excited to get it out there.”
Tour dates are after the jump.

Anthrax/Testament To Headline US Tour

Anthrax and Testament will be embarking on a full US tour later this fall with Death Angel as a direct opener. The tour begins in mid-October and concludes one month later in mid-November. Anthrax will be closing out each show on the tour, which coincidentally falls almost exactly 20 years after Anthrax and Testament first toured together.

“We’ve been tight with the guys in Testament for a long, long time,” said Anthrax’s Charlie Benante.  ”so we’re really looking forward to hanging out with them on the road.  And all of us in Anthrax are big Death Angel fans, so this is going to be a monster of a good time – for all of us and for the fans.  Plus, with the incredible success of The Big Four shows over the last year, we wanted to tour with some of the ‘second wave’ of thrash bands.”

OMFG Of The Day: Tool Touring With Opeth Next Spring!!!!

It has just been announced that prog-metal masters Tool will be doing a short US headlining tour next Spring and the direct support will be from one of my favorite bands Opeth. The moment I heard about this, I promptly crapped my pants and threw it at my next door neighbor (she’s a bitch and deserved it anyways). Both bands have yet to issue a statement, but the press release states that the reason the tour is announced so far in advance is to build hype for upcoming albums from each artist, Opeth‘s later this year and Tool‘s in the first quarter of 2012. Check after the jump for tour dates.
