Delta Rae Featured In Season Six Trailer For ‘True Blood’

Folk rock band Delta Rae is being featured in the new trailer for season six of the HBO hit series True Blood. The song “Bottom Of The River” can be heard prominently and is being described “as a match made in vampire heaven”. The song comes from the band’s debut album Carry The Fire (iTunes).

Singer Brittany Holljes states, “We’ve been immense fans of True Blood since the pilot. The show captures southern myth and the magic of American folklore — the same mysterious storytelling that inspires so much of our music. To go from dressing up like the whole cast (Yes, I was Sookie) for Halloween three years ago, to hearing our song on the trailer is utterly MIND BLOWING.

[TV] Is “True Blood” Killing Off Eric Northman?

Season 6 of “True Blood” is set to premiere on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c and apparently this is quite the violent year with a major paring down of the show’s central cast. The lastest rumor has it that Alexander Skarsgård may be departing the show around episode 6, his character of Eric Northam having been killed off.

This all comes from TVLine (who could have made up the rumor for all we know). Their Michael Ausiello addresses the rumors.” I can neither confirm or deny the rumors, but I can offer you two pieces of evidence that suggest such a twist is in the realm of possibility. The first one comes care of Joe Manganiello, who tells TVLine, “We’re getting to the point in the season now where people are starting to die. The table reads are starting to get smaller, and I’m sure they will continue to do that.” Exhibit B, meanwhile, arrives in the form of Episode 7′s title — “The Funeral.” Sorry I don’t have better news for you.

Hardly concrete stuff, though I would assume that it would have to be someone big for them to title an episode Funeral. I can also imagine just about anyone having been on the show for four or more years getting sick of it.

[TV] More “True Blood” Casting Bites Into Jim Morrison Vibe

Bon Temps is about to bear witness to quite an anomaly: a vampire with more substance than style.

TVLine reports that “True Blood” has tapped “Brothers & Sisters” alum Luke Grimes, pictured, play the recurring role of James, a circa ’70s-made vamp who is smart, spiritual and emotionally deeper than any other bloodsucker we’ve seen before.

Picture a cross between Jim Morrison and Gary Clark Jr. with even more of a poet’s edge. The dude’s every women’s dream come true, and he doesn’t even know it, says the site.

Grimes, also star of All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, is set to debut at the midway point of the HBO hit’s sixth season (which is slated to premiere in June).

Also joining the HBO smash in Season 6 is acting vet Rutger Hauer (as a mysterious figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason), “Rubicon’s” Arliss Howard (as Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell), “Friday Night Lights” grad Jurnee Smollett-Bell (as do-gooder Nicole), “90210‘s” Amelia Rose Blaire (as Howard’s onscreen daughter) and “House‘s” Karolina Wydra (as a badass vamp). HBO Dates “True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season” For Home Video

HBO has announced DVD ($59.99) and Blu-ray/DVD Combo ($79.98) releases of “True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season” for May 21. DVD Active reports that the only extra material on the DVD release will be audio commentaries. The Blu-ray/DVD Combo will also include an Anatomy of an Episode, Character Bios, a digital copy, and more.

Returning for its fifth season, “True Blood” is HBO’s sexy, scary, wildly entertaining drama series from Oscar- and Emmy-winner Alan Ball (“Six Feet Under”) and based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. In addition to returning cast favorites – human/faerie waitress Sookie Stackhouse, her vampire suitors Bill Compton and Eric Northman, soul-searching pal Tara, shape-shifting boss Sam, rakish brother Jason, clairvoyant Lafayette and teen-vamp Jessica – Season 5 introduces a whole new wave of otherworldly characters. There’s Vampire Guardian Roman, president of the Vampire Authority, who wants co-existence between humans and vampires; vampire zealot Salome (yes, the Salome), intent on recreating the world in God’s vampyric image; Authority Chancellor Nora, who shares the same maker as Eric; werewolves J.D. and Martha, who want a reluctant Alcide to take his rightful place as packmaster; and many more. Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, “True Blood” Season 5 goes deep into the battle between the Vampire Authority and “vampire fundamentalists” – a political power play whose outcome could decide not only the fate of Sookie and her Bon Temps friends, but of all human existence.READ MORE

[TV] “True Blood” Changes Showrunner Mid-Shoot; But There’s No Drama Here…

I wouldn’t read into this the same way that AMC keeps changing “The Walking Dead” showrunners… but there are more changes afoot at HBO’s “True Blood.”

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Mark Hudis, who replaced departing creator/showrunner Alan Ball for the show’s upcoming sixth season, is now being replaced himself. Writer/producer Brian Buckner, who has been with the vampire series since its first season, has taken over the position for the show’s not-yet-concluded season.

It sounds as if the move is to get him working on other projects at HBO: “Mark Hudis has stepped down as showrunner of “True Blood” to focus on development under his overall deal with the network,” a spokesperson for the premium cable network said in a statement, referring to a two-year deal the writer/producer signed with the network last spring.

Ball announced he’d be leaving the series at the end of the show’s fifth season to focus his attention on since-renewed Banshee on cable cousin Cinemax. Hudis joined “True Blood” for the show’s fourth season as a co-executive producer and was upped to showrunner for season six. For his part, Buckner has been with the series since its inception.

In addition to a hi-res look at the “Bates Motel” teaser poster (airing Monday, March 18 at 10 PM ET/PT on A&E), we’ve got two more television bites to kickstart your morning.

First, check out the opening credits for CW’s “Cult,” which promises that seeing is deceiving. ““Cult” follows Jeff (Matt Davis), who’s a journalist blogger (all of us professional bloggers are extremely handsome and heroic, don’t you know, and it’s about time broadcast TV recognized it). He teams with Skye (Jessica Lucas), a production assistant on a popular television crime series called Cult, as they investigate the fans of the series who are re-creating the crimes on the show.” Added meta twist: The fictional version of Cult airs on a fictional version of The CW within the show. “Cult” premieres Tuesday, February 19.

Also inside, we’ve got a few looks behind-the-scenes of “True Blood’s” sixth season, taking us to the home being used for “The Governor” of Louisiana. [TV] Two Ladies Move Into Bon Temps For Some “True Blood”

Season 6 of “True Blood” will be hitting HBO later this year. After a 5th Season that found a lot of you guys reinvigorated in the show after a sub-par 4th outing, I expect that interest in Bon Temps is still high. To that end, the show has recently added 2 actresses to its roster. Amelia Rose Blaire (pictured above; “90210″) and Jurnee Smollett (pictured below; “Friday Night Lights”).

Per Deadline, “Blaire will play Willa Burrell, the daughter of Louisiana Gov. Truman Burrell (Arliss Howard), who has long clashed with her father over vampire rights. Smollett will play wide-eyed Nicole Wright, who is not concerned with money and more concerned with the common good and doing what’s right. Blaire’s role is recurring that could become regular, and Smollett will be a regular.

[TV] Meet “True Blood’s” New King Of Louisiana!

“True Blood” has crowned the new king of Louisiana.

Arliss Howard (“Rubicon,” “Medium”), pictured, is joining the HBO drama’s forthcoming sixth season in the series regular role of Louisiana Governor Creighton Burrell, TVLine has learned.

The character is described as a good ol’ boy politician who has a major beef with vampires ever since his wife ran off with one, leaving him as a single father to their only daughter. Politically savvy and perhaps overly ambitious, Creighton tends to let his personal aspirations overshadow his humanity.

Howard’s other credits include the films Full Metal Jacket, Ruby, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Moneyball.

“True Blood‘s” sixth season is slated to premiere in June.

Werewolf_TV_Show_Banner_12_9_12

[Remember This?] “Werewolf” The TV Series!!!

“The Walking Dead”, “Dexter”, “American Horror Story”, “True Blood”. Horror is almost more popular on TV these days than it is in cinemas. There’s something about the small screen that seems to “legitimize” the genre for casual viewers. Maybe it’s an ingrained expectation that television’s historically strict standards and practices will save them from the nasty bits (which is of course no longer true in the days of HBO and AMC), or perhaps it’s just the simple equation that smaller screen = less scary.

My mom had to be a subscriber to at least one of these theories because she let me watch “Werewolf” at an exceedingly young age. I can even remember her enabling my efforts to get from where I was to where I needed to be to watch it. I had to see it. The funny thing is, I’m pretty sure I was sort of bored by it – I only really remember getting excited when the wolf was onscreen, which wasn’t very often. But I was so addled by my love of An American Werewolf In London that, if it had werewolves in it, I was glued to the screen.

The show ran for 28 episodes on Fox from 1987-1988. I was too young to retain any real specifics, but the internet tells me that it was similar to “The Fugitive” in structure – so it has that going for it! If nothing else, the werewolf design is actually decent.

ABC's "Last Resort" - Season One

[TV] Robert Patrick Becomes “True Blood” Series Regular

“X-Files” and Terminator 2‘s Robert Patrick has signed on a series regular on HBO’s vampire drama “True Blood,” playing Alcide’s (Joe Manganiello) father, says Deadline.

Patrick first introduced the character on the hit HBO drama in the most recent fifth season where he did a three-episode arc, appearing in the three of the last four episodes of the season. He was tapped for the recurring gig in June, after his pilot “Last Resort” had been picked up to series by ABC. While the broadcast network stopped short of a formal cancellation of “Last Resort,” and the cast of the show are still under deals at Sony Pictures TV, they state that Patrick is being released so he can join “True Blood.”

On the big screen Patrick will next be seen in Warner Bros’ Gangster Squad, Universal’s Identity Thief, and indie Lovelace, which is premiering at next month’s Sundance Film Festival.
