[TV] Could Netflix Produce New “Buffy,” “Twin Peaks” Episodes; ‘The Dark Tower’?

From Mr. Disgusting: You guys have no idea how lucky you are. The technological leap we’ve made over the past 5 years is astounding and has created so many opportunities for beloved fan projects to regain footing. No longer will network television have a stranglehold on deciding the fate of the show if not enough millions of people watch it.

Netflix’s Ted Sarandos spoke with Stuff.tv about the return of “Arrested Development,” and the newly minted “House of Cards.” Within the conversation, they begin tackling the tough questions, what other shows would he resurrect?

They ask him about “Arrested Development” creator Ron Howard circling Stephen King’s defunct The Dark Tower, which garned a shocking response: “I spoke to Ron about it, actually,” said Sarandos. “The last time we talked about it the thing was being kicked about HBO – but it’s no longer there. Once Arrested Development gets through we’ll keep talking about it.

The interviewer digs harder asking about “Twin Peaks,” receiving a bold proclamation of “Absolutely!” while also adding that they could even bring “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” back: “That’s one that’ll come up on everyone’s list. She’s a great character. If it was my property I’d do infrequent movies. There’s not enough kick-ass female characters like that.

What would you like to see back on the small screen (and don’t say “Get a Life”)? READ MORE

[TV] Wes Craven Speaks Out On The “Scream” Series

A few weeks back we were all pretty surprised when it was announced that MTV had given the greenlight to the “Scream” pilot. I mean, development talk is one thing – but a go-ahead to start production is a much bigger commitment. It was also announced that Wes Craven was in discussions to come back to direct the hour-long pilot, which Craven himself confirmed today. Although he won’t commit unless he approves of the script (which seems like a logical ask on his part).

He tweeted the following, “A lot of you have asked about the Scream TV series. It’s true I’ve been approached. My response was, it would depend on the script… If they have a great script/concept, it could be fun. If not, not.

So do a good job, whoever you are writing it. You’re probably not Kevin Williamson, or else we would know. Dimension Films will co-produce. If “Scream” receives a series order it will hit in late summer 2014. READ MORE

[TV] Salt Lake City Hates “Hannibal”

The Salt Lake City, Utah station that doesn’t bring you “New Normal” or “Saturday Night Live” is also opting out of NBC’s frosh serial killer drama “Hannibal,” Variety is reporting.

KSL-TV cited the level of violence in the show, a TV spin on the “Silence of the Lambs” franchise.

On the NBC affiliate’s Facebook page, KSL TV posted:

PROGRAMMING NOTE: After viewing the past few episodes, as well as receiving numerous complaints from viewers, KSL-TV will cancel the airing of the NBC show “Hannibal” on Thursday evenings. This decision was made due to the extensive graphic nature of this show. The time slot will be replaced with a special edition of KSL 5 News at 9 p.m.

NBC remains a valued partner to KSL-TV. KSL is confident that with the proliferation of digital media, those who wish to view the program can easily do so.

KSL TV, which has ties to the Mormon church, previously declined to air NBC’s “The Playboy Club” and “New Normal.” Station also does not air “Saturday Night Live.” Programming decisions, according to the station, stem from these shows not being “in accordance” with KSL’s “mission” and brand messaging, says the site. We have a couple of new TV Spots from Season 8 of Showtime’s “Dexter” and these are actually my favorite yet. Actually the second one is more of the same, with Michael C. Let’s face it, he’ll be playing a bad guy and Dexter will kill him. Not a spoiler, just a guess based on the character description and predictability of the show.

[TV] J.J. Abrams To Head Back In Time To “11/22/63″

Well, he won’t direct it, that much is almost certain given his current slate – but J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot shingle is currently negotiating for the rights to the Stephen King book “11/22/63″. The development of the project will happen through Warner Bros. TV, where Bad Robot has a deal.

Per Deadline, “ the plan is to adapt the book as a TV series or mini-series, likely for cable.

The book, “centers on Jake, an unassuming divorced English teacher who stumbles upon a time portal that leads to 9/9/1958 and goes on a quest to try and prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy which occurred on 11/22/1963.

Are you more stoked for this or “Under The Dome”?

[TV] Gilliard Playing Bob Stookey On “Walking Dead”, Not Roy Stark

Last week iDigitalTimes reported that Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (pictured above; “The Wire”, The Waterboy) was in talks to play the role of “Roy Stark” in AMC’s Season 4 of “The Walking Dead”.

Per THR, it turns out he’s actually playing “Bob Stookey”, “a former Army medic who is deeply haunted by his past — both before and after the apocalypse. He’s a loner, though he maintains a charming yet self-deprecating façade.” Apparently Stookey played a decent-sized role in the comics so fans of the book should be pleased.

We already knew that for October’s return David Morrissey will return as a series regular as The Governor. The British actor initially signed on for a one-season role to play the famed villain from the comics created by Robert Kirkman on which the TV series is based. In the Image/Skybound comics, the Governor fails to survive a brutal showdown at the prison with Rick.

Gilliard will join newly minted regulars (and former recurrings) Chad L. Coleman and Sonequa Martin-Green on the show.

[TV] Durand Moves From ‘Night’ To ‘The Strain’

Wow, this one’s moving right on along, isn’t it? Kevin Durand (pictured above; “Lost”, Dark Was The Night) is joining the TV adaptation of Guillermo del Toro’s vampire novel trilogy “The Strain” with Carlton Cuse (“Bates Motel”) as showrunner. Per Variety, Durand will play “ a second-generation Ukranian-American, a once-solitary rat exterminator who eagerly joins the war against vampires who have invaded New York.

As reported yesterday, Corey Stoll (“House Of Cards”) will be playing the lead of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather. The project already has a full writing staff in place churning out scripts, and FX has committed $500,000 to creature creation

The book is “a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. [TV] Next On “Hannibal” See Eddie Izzard Play Anthony Hopkins In Episode 1.05 “Entree”

NBC’s “Hannibal” is a show that I’m definitely digging. Tonight’s episode, “Coquilles”, hasn’t aired in my time zone yet but I’m definitely digging the trajectory its on. Interestingly enough, it seems like Eddie Izzard is basically playing Anthony Hopkins’ version of the Hannibal character in next week’s episode 1.05 “Entree”, right on down to the mannerisms (not to mention the glass cell.

In the episode, “Jack (Laurence Fishburne) & Alana (Caroline Dhavernas) are contacted by a former colleague, Dr. Chilton, (Raul Esparza ) who believes he has The Chesapeake Ripper in custody, but then one of his patients commits a murder that matches The Ripper’s profile. [TV] Weird! “Scream” Is Headed To TV! Wes Craven In Talks To Direct

New has just hit that MTV is moving forward with an official pilot order for “Scream”, per THR. This comes after nearly a year of speculation, but now it seems all but pre-determined that this thing will actually be shot. Will we ever see it? IE, will it make it to series? My guess is yes – it’s too well known of a property for MTV to not test the waters on it (unless they find the pilot to be atrocious, but I’m guessing they won’t).

Wes Craven is in discussions to come back to direct the pilot, which will be an hour-long. It appears as though Kevin Williamson will not be returning since MTV is currently taking meetings with other writers. This also probably means the death of Scream 5.

There’s no word on if any of the original cast will be back. My guess is they certainly wouldn’t star, but we might see a cameo here and there.

Dimension Films will co-produce. If “Scream” receives a series order it will hit in late summer 2014.
