[TV] “The Twilight Zone” Returning To Television!

Forget the completely unnecessary movie Warners was working on, CBS is getting behind a new “The Twilight Zone” television series! Hopefully it will be nothing like the 80′s incarnation, which has each episode ending on a happy note (in short, each and every episode sucked).

“X-Men” director Bryan Singer, who is also behind the procedural “House” on FOX, has closed a deal to develop, executive produce and possibly direct a reboot of Rod Serling’s classic, says Deadline.

The drama series project, now in early stages, is set up at CBS TV Studios, which has the rights to the original series. Search is underway for a writer to pen the new “Twilight Zone.” The project has not been pitched to networks yet, but CBS is an obvious destination since CBS TV Studios only supplies CBS and the CW on the broadcast side and CBS carried the original series as well as the first revival.

The original “Twilight Zone” series ran on CBS from 1959-1964. CBS also aired a remake, which ran from 1985-1989. The most recent series reboot, hosted by Forest Whitaker, premiered on UPN in 2002 and lasted one season. READ MORE

New ‘The Twilight Zone’ Feature To Head To The Future?!

Hiding within an article on time travel over at Vulture, they reveal the plot for Warner Bros. Pictures The Twilight Zone, a long work in progress pieced together by writers Joby Harold, Tony Peckham, Rand Ravich and Jason Rothenberg.

It follows a test pilot who winds up breaking the speed of light; when he puts down his craft, he discovers that he’s landed a bit late for supper — 96 years late.

As AICN pointed out, it resembles the Feb. 5, 1960 episode “The Last Flight,” the first “Twilight Zone” scripted by Richard Matheson. It followed a British biplane pilot fighting World War I in 1917 who finds himself passing through a strange cloud and ending up on an American air base in 1959. You can watch the episode inside.

The feature is based on the venerated Rod Serling sci-fi TV series that also sparked a 1983 film. Cloverfield and Let Me In‘s Matt Reeves was originally slated to direct. There’s been no replacement as of yet. READ MORE

News That Matt Reeves Isn’t Directing ‘Twilight Zone’ Has Me Kicking Dirt

Justin Kroll of Variety just reported some disheartening news that deeply saddens me.

Due to scheduling conflicts, looks like Matt Reeves will not be helming The Twilight Zone for Warner Bros.

Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuaron, Michael Bay and Rupert Wyatt were all originally on that short list, so it wouldn’t be that surprising if one of them jumps in for the latest incarnation of the popular TV series. None of them excite me like Reeves does. Bummer.

Joby Harold, Tony Peckham, Rand Ravich and Jason Rothenberg had been developing the screenplay for some time. The producers were not seeking to remake an episodic movie, as the only big-screen version of the show did 25 years ago, but rather hope to build one continuing story line based on one or more episodes. It’ll be one director and one storyline, said previous reports.

Matt Reeves, best known for directing Cloverfield and Let Me In, is also attached to Universal’s 8 O’Clock in the Morning, which John Carpenter’s They Live is based off.

[News Bites] Samuel Jackson For ‘RoboCop,’ ‘Twilight Zone’ Rewrites, Time Travel With ‘Glimmer’ & ‘Abraham Lincoln’ Director’s Cut

Samuel L. Jackson is joining the cast of Robocop, MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie, reports THR. Jose Padilha is directing the film, which sees Joel Kinnaman (“The Killing”) as the title hero, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Gary Oldman has already been cast as his scientist-creator. Jackson will play Pat Novak, a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world. Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing the movie, which is eyeing a September shoot in Toronto and has a tentative release date of August 9, 2013.

All You Need Is Kill scribe Joby Harold is in negotiations to rewrite The Twilight Zone for Warner Bros. and Appian Way, says Variety. Cloverfield helmer Matt Reeves is set to direct from a script originally penned by Jason Rothenberg and subsequently rewritten by Sherlock Holmes scribe Anthony Peckham. Unlike the 1983 feature that had four separate storylines, this pic will have one story that features elements from the “Twilight Zone” universe made popular by Rod Serling’s classic TV series.

They also report that, in a competitive situation, DreamWorks has shelled out mid-six figures to acquire Glimmer, a sci-fi/fantasy spec written by Carter Blanchard (Immortals). The script is described as an “Amblin-esque found-footage tale involving teenagers and time travel.” That’s just enough info to get me excited.

Lastly, below you’ll find a video trailer for “Director’s Cut: The Art of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” Conceived by director Timur Bekmambetov, this deluxe edition utilizes never-before-seen storyboards, as well as exquisite pieces of production art and conceptual designs to journey deep into the mythology of the film, telling the tale of Abraham Lincoln as seen through the eyes of “Adam,” an ancient and powerful vampire who rules the American South. Warner Bros. Heads to ‘The Twilight Zone’ With…..!!!!!!

Warner Bros. Heads to The Twilight Zone With.....!!!!!!

I am out of my mind excited. Literally, out of my mind. Variety broke the news this morning that Cloverfield and Let Me In director (and Steven Spielberg protege) Matt Reeves will be getting behind the camera for Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Twilight Zone!!!

While the ’83 version had four directors, this project will feature a single storyline and one director. Rand Ravich and Jason Rothenberg penned the script, and while plot details are under wraps, sources say the film would be a single storyline that touches on several themes from the Rod Sterling TV show that ran from 1959-1964.

What do you guys think of this choice? Are you already drinking celebratory champagne like I am?

Warners Planning Major ‘Twilight Zone’ Feature!

Next to Aliens, the one thing I love more than anything in the world is Rod Sterling’s “The Twilight Zone” TV series that ran from 1959-1964. The revamped show sucked, and the 1983 feature film is pretty much garbage, although I have a soft spot for “It’s a Good Life” and “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.”

I’ve been waiting in extreme anticipation for Warner Bros. Pictures to move on the new Twilight Zone feature in hopes that they take it seriously. This afternoon Variety revealed a shortlist of directors in talks, with two of the three surpassing my wildest expectations.

While the ’83 version had four directors, this project will feature a single storyline and one director.

Mutual interest is brewing between WB and at least three individuals: Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay and Alfonso Cuaron, with Nolan being the current frontrunner. Rupert Wyatt, whose Rise of the Planet of the Apes drew rave reviews and more than $400 million worldwide, is a dark horse.

Nolan, the brains and brawn behind Inception, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and the forthcoming Dark Knight Rises, needs a new franchise to latch onto. With his out-of-the-box directing style, he’d be the perfect choice.

Cuaron is another fantastic name, having directed the stunning Children of Men and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for Warners.

The only name on the list that makes me cringe is Bay, who can deliver on a spectacular level, but hasn’t told a good story since Bad Boys II back in 2003. The Transformers films show he’d rather make a big paycheck than deliver a darker, more Bay-ish pic.

Who would you choose?

Rand Ravich and Jason Rothenberg penned the script, and while plot details are under wraps, sources say the film would be a single storyline that touches on several themes from the Rod Sterling TV show.
