Francis Ford Coppola’s Terrible ‘Twixt’ Finally Gets Dumped to Home Video

Francis Ford Coppola’s absolutely atrocious and embarrassing Twixt, which was shot in 3-D and meant to be “edited live” by the director, is finally getting dumped in the home video crapper by 20th Century Fox on Blu-ray and DVD July 30. Yippie!

If you couldn’t tell, I hated it.

Starring Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Elle Fanning, David Paymer and Ben Chaplin, “A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.READ MORE

Fresh Trailer For Francis Ford Coppola’s Disastrous ‘Twixt’

Easily one of the worst films of the past few years was Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt, which plays TIFF and then sort of vanished off the face of the planet. Now, Coppola is taking the vampire tale on a one city engagement where it’ll play San Francisco on Friday, August 10th in an exclusive engagement. The film will open at the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas Theater (1881 Post Street, San Francisco, CA 94115). Coppola will attend the 4:45pm and 7:15pm screenings on the 10th for a Q&A. You will want to be there because it’ll be funny.

Getting ready for the event, a new extended trailer has been shared. In the film Val Kilmer plays “A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Vampire Fanning Centerpiece of International ‘Twixt’ Poster

There’s one thing Twixt has going for it, and that’s the foresight to have cast Elle Fanning in one of the lead roles. The star of Super 8 is being used as the centerpiece of the international campaign as her creepy vampiric image is up front and center. If only the movie was as chilling….

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the film was intended to hit the States as a roadshow where Coppola was going to edit the film “live” for the audience. No editing can save this film, which is probably why it has yet to hit cinemas.

Val Kilmer stars as “a writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. ‘Twixt’ Looks Interesting, But I Assure You That It’s Not

Twixt Looks Interesting, But I Assure You That Its Not

Remember when The Godfather and Apocalypse Now director Francis Ford Coppola was planning a roadshow with his indie vampire flick Twixt? After premiering last September in Toronto to a slew of negative reviews (including ours), it appears the iconic director has slammed on the brakes. Rightfully so if you ask me.

While his big “edit the film live” campaign fails here in the States, France is looking to open the feature some time in 2012. Pathe has unleashed an international trailer for the pic starring Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Elle Fanning, David Paymer and Ben Chaplin.

[Review] TIFF ’11: ‘Twixt’ a Bland Snoozer

Out of all of the films premiering at TIFF, the one I was expecting to be blown away by was Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt, which ended up being one of the biggest duds of the year.

It is with great displeasure in reporting back that ‘Twixt’ is an absolutely horrible film. The 3-D experience is beyond pointless, and no matter how many edited versions Coppola has up his sleeve it can’t be salvaged. ‘Twixt’ a bland, cheesy, poorly shot snoozer that’s not even fun as a midnight movie.

Pathe Gets ‘Twixt’

I wasn’t at Comic-Con this year, but word has it one of the most awesome and inspiring (not to mention weird) panels was for Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt.

It was there that Coppola and composer Dan Deacon (who is annoying in some contexts and brilliant and others) debuted their vision for the 3D ‘interactive” version of Twixt, wherein the audience response to certain scenes can determine which scenes follow. It’s my understanding that the interactive version of the film will be something that Coppola travels with himself so as to control the film’s modulation to its audience, while the version of the film with a linear narrative will be released into theaters as a separate entity.

And it appears that Pathe will be handling distribution of the film in France as well as international sales to other territories. Per Variety, “Pic, which will bow at Toronto in the Special Presentation section, toplines Val Kilmer as a mystery writer on the decline, who moves to a small town, and gets caught up in a dark murder case involving a young girl, who has turned into a ghost”.

Hopefully after TIFF we’ll get word of a North American distributor.

TIFF ’11: The Most Stunning Look at ‘Twixt’ Yet!

Just announced to be premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival this September (full genre lineup), this morning we got our hands on a gorgeous and stunning look at Francis Ford Coppola’s top secret horror, Twixt, which features stars Val Kilmer and Elle Fanning in a very “modern” B-movie-esque image. Fanning’s makeup is out of this world.

Inspired by the gothic horror of Edgar Allen Poe, Coppola’s latest tells the tale of a burnt-out mystery writer (Val Kilmer) who gets mixed up in murder and evil in a California town.

Comic-Con ’11: Francis Ford Coppola Plans 30-City Tour for 3-D Horror ‘Twixt’

Francis Ford Coppola hasn’t been to Comic-Con to promote one of his projects since Bram Stoker’s Dracula, in 1992. But the helmer took the stage in Hall H again, Saturday morning, to discuss his latest horror pic, Twixt, a self-produced pic that stars Val Kilmer, Ben Chaplin and Elle Fanning, and is a story based on a dream he once had.

In the horror flick, “A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. San Diego Comic-Con ’11: SATURDAY, July 23 & SUNDAY, July 24 Complete Schedule!

Update: We’ve now added the full schedule inside for Sunday, July 24.

Over the past few days, we’ve been weeding through the San Diego Comic-Con 2011 schedule to bring you to juicy bits that’ll satisfy your hunger for horror. Compared to yesterday’s schedule, it looks like Saturday, July 23 is light on film coverage and more geared toward television and comics (big surprise!).

On Saturday, Joe Lynch’s Knights of Badassdom and Francis Ford Coppola’s TWIXT get some love, the latter of which will involve the audience in a dress rehearsal of the completely unique and innovative way they plan on performing it (WTF). On the TV front, SyFy’s Sanctuary and Being Human will be bringing their supernatural flavor to San Diego, while vampires prove they’re still in vogue with panels for True Blood and The Vampires Diaries. Even Teen Wolf will be strutting its stuff. Robert Kirkman is also taking the stage again – multiple times, even – and Garth Ennis and Frank Miller discuss their genre works. Check out the full schedule inside.

San Diego Comic-Con ’11: FRIDAY, July 22 Complete Schedule!

Last night we delivered the full schedules from “Preview Night” and Thursday, July 21 (opening day), now inside you’ll find the full schedule for the San Diego Comic-Con Friday, July 22.

Friday is loaded with all sorts of madness: Fox will show their pilot presentation for Joe Hill’s “Locke & Key,” directed by Mark Romanek. AMC brings the cast of “The Walking Dead” to the Con. Legendary Pictures will have various panels for movies that aren’t comic book related and aren’t even filmed yet (I still think this is hilarious). Screen Gems will show the first footage from Underworld 4. Dreamworks pimps out Fright Night. And Columbia Pictures will share the first footage from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. It all sounds pretty awesome. Check out the full schedule inside.

San Diego Comic-Con ’11: WED., July 20/THURS., July 21 Complete Schedule!

I love standing firm on a promise, having kept our San Diego Comic-Con news leading up to the July 20th event to an absolute minimum. But reader beware: Bloody Disgusting’s front page is going to be a gooey explosion, an absolute onslaught of coverage come that Wednesday.

Speaking of Wednesday, July 20, the Con has revealed the official lineup for both “Preview Night” and Thursday, July 21. So instead of filling up the front page with an individual story on EACH announcement, we’ve jam-packed it all into this one tidy post (ok, I’m OCD about organization, what the hell do you want from me?)

We’ll hit you up with the details on the other three days as soon as they’re announced.

San Diego Comic-Con’s Panel For Non-Comic Movies That Aren’t Filmed

Is this a good time to declare my disdain for the direction Comic-Con has taken? Not only are studios flaunting films that AREN’T at all comic book related, but now they’re wasting time and space over movies that haven’t even been filmed? Good grief.

In an announcement that Warner Bros. Pictures’ Pacific Rim will have a San Diego Comic-Con presence, it was revealed that Rinko Kikuchi (47 Ronin ) will be starring alongside Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Charlie Day in Guillermo del Toro’s creature feature, reports Heat Vision. Legendary Pictures will bring all aforementioned talent to the Con as well as screenwriter Travis Beacham.

They also reveal that Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes and Alicia Vikander will be on hand to talk about Seventh Son, the company’s adaptation of the young adult fantasy based on the Matt Greenberg book with the project’s director, Sergei Bodrov.

Director Alex Proyas (The Crow, Knowing) and Bradley Cooper will chat about Paradise Lost while the creator of video game Mass Effect, Casey Hudson, and the man writing its screen adaptation, Mark Protosevich, will kibitz about that sci-fi project.
