In watching the preview for next week’s “True Blood” it looks as if things are heating up between Roman (Chris Meloni) and Russell (Denis O’Hare), while the fairies continue their light show and the humans fend for themselves. TV: More Sex & Violence As HBO Renews “True Blood” For Sixth Season

With the fifth season in full swing, HBO has unsurprisingly announced that they’ve renewed “True Blood” for a sixth season, which will begin shooting in January 2013 for a summer premiere. Executives celebrated by dousing themselves in blood and having sex all over the office. But not really.

As previously reported by THR, the season premiere of HBO series kicked off with 5.2 million viewers during its inaugural 9 p.m. ET broadcast. Adding the total from its 11 p.m. encore, the episode grossed 6.3 million viewers for the night. It marks a 4 percent decline since last summer’s premiere but a 3 percent increase vs. its Season 4 finale.

In the show, “Following the creation of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is a telepath and waitress at Merlotte’s in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, owned by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), a shapeshifter—though this secret is kept hidden. One night, Sookie meets Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 173-year-old vampire who has returned to Bon Temps following the death of his last remaining relative. As she cannot hear his thoughts, she finds it easy to be in his company and, over the first season, the two become romantically involved.” -Wiki

TV: [Next On] Video Preview Of “True Blood” Episode 05.05 “Let’s Boot and Rally”

It seems to be a growing consensus that HBO’s “True Blood” continues to break its own rules and that one of the only watchable factors is all of the sex, alongside a dabble of gore. Yet, people stay connected and give strength to this otherwise mediocre cable drama that’s costing you $30 a month to watch (you could do better with your money). After last night’s episode, HBO previewed Episode 5.05, “Let’s Boot and Rally”.

In Episode #53 (5.05): “Let’s Boot and Rally”: “With time running short, Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) enlist Sookie (Anna Paquin) to probe for clues on Russell’s (Denis O’Hare) hiding place. TV: [Interview] Giles Matthey On New Character “Claude”, The Departure Of Alan Ball And Where “True Blood” Is Headed In Season 5

At the end of last week’s episode of “True Blood” you may have noticed an unusual character who enters the shop where Jessica was trying on dresses only to bolt when she approached him. Enamored, she gives chase only to find his Volkswagon Bug abandoned in the middle of a field. That characters’s name was “Claude” and he’s played by Giles Matthey. An irate Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) unwittingly puts Sookie’s life in danger. Would You Participate In Maine’s “Zombie Apocalypse” Day? Buy An Authentic Vampire Hunting Kit?

The Bangor Daily News asks, what if a pandemic hit Maine? Who would respond? What would they do? Where would they get vital resources that likely would be in short supply? What if there wasn’t enough antidote to go around? These are just some of the questions that about 100 emergency responders from eight Maine counties grappled with Thursday during “Zombie Apocalypse,” a daylong preparedness exercise conducted by the Northeastern Maine Regional Resource Center at Spectacular Event Center. During the exercise, representatives from several hospitals and nursing homes, public safety and emergency management agencies, the Maine National Guard, amateur radio operators and the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention gathered to think about how they would respond to a worldwide outbreak of an infectious disease — in this case a “zombie” pandemic that originated in Jamaica and spread throughout the globe by bites from zombies. You can read more about the historic event and watch a behind-the-scenes video at the above link.

The BBC is reporting on a hilarious auction where a Victorian vampire-slaying kit has sold for £7,500 to an unknown buyer at an auction in North Yorkshire. The 19th Century box contains a crucifix, pistol, wooden stakes and mallet, as well as glass bottles containing holy water, holy earth and garlic paste. The box was left to a Yorkshire woman in her uncle’s will. Valuer Oonagh Drage said the kit was probably made in the late 1800s and was possibly inspired by the popularity of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula.

As well as the weaponry, the box holds a copy of the Book of Common Prayer from 1851 and a handwritten extract from the Bible which quotes Luke 19:27. It reads: “But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

The manga creator team CLAMP developed the story and original character designs for the vampire television series and film, and Production I.G has been animating both projects. ALVH-080 - Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) examines his vampire-hunting weapon of choice, a specially crafted axe.

[BD Review] Action-Packed ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Suffers From Weak Script & Character Development

I was extremely excited for Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D, his historical retelling in theaters tomorrow from Twentieth Century Fox. The film brings a unique vision to theaters, a rare original idea surrounded by franchise sequels and remake (although, I guess you can argue that “Abraham Lincoln” is a name brand). Anyways, the movie wasn’t as good as I had hoped. Benjamin Walker looks cool, but Seth Grahame-Smith has no idea what the real Honest Abe was like. The characters are faceless, the script is a mess, and the movie looks like absolute dog shit. It looks terrrrrrible. With that said, it’s still pretty fun (at times) and features some great action sequences. 3-D is fake.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is kind of fun, but wholly forgettable. It’s the kind of movie you see just to get out of the brutal summer heat by enjoying the theater’s cool air conditioning. The main problem with the film is twofold, beginning with the tone of both the script and Honest Abe… And while the character development and screenplay are a complete mess, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, at times, is an incredibly interesting movie. The flick features some brilliant CGI work, incredible choreography, and even the vampires look dope.

[BD Review] Script Issues Hamper Action-Packed ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D’

In a world shrouded with remakes, reboots and pre-makes, it’s incredibly rare when a studio gets behind something wholly original. Twentieth Century Fox, who has been working diligently at getting back into the good graces of movie fans, made a bold move in adapting Seth Grahame-Smith’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter into a major motion picture. Unfortunately, it’s not a product that’s going to inspire other studios to jump on the bandwagon. This new trend of “historical retellings” could already be dead…

Day Watch and Wanted’s Timur Bekmambetov gets behind the camera for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, a should-be action-packed epic that becomes muddled with a lengthy timeline and weak character development. The story follows Lincoln, played by Benjamin Walker, as he grows up to become the 16th President of the United States. Along the way he witnesses a vampire murdering his mother and exacts revenge with the help of Henry Sturgess (Dominic Cooper), a Robert Downey Jr.-esque vamp slayer.

The main problem with the film is twofold, beginning with the tone of both the script and Honest Abe. First, the pic is missing a slightly comedic edge. Grahame-Smith’s screenplay takes itself way too serious, which is odd considering the “Scooby-Doo”-like plot/reveals. The audience is watching Walker caked in weak Abraham Lincoln make-up (that makes him look like a young Liam Neeson) fighting CGI-laden vampires on a blazing train, and they’re supposed to take it seriously? Come on now. But this issue wouldn’t be as glaring if Grahame-Smith had actually done research on the real Abraham Lincoln, a man who was beloved by his Illinois companions, who filled bars with jokes and conversation. In Vampire Hunter, Abe is told he must be a loner with no friends, family or loved ones. Thus, he’s portrayed as a boring recluse with zero personality, a complete 180 from historical facts. The movie strips him of personality and turns him into a revenge-obsessed junkie. It’s an amusing oversight as it literally destroys the fun of the movie and turns it into an overbearing bitch-fest filled with cool FX and fight scenes.

Grahame-Smith’s script gets even worse when it turns into the “Seinfeld” episode “The Yadda Yadda”. The first half establishes Lincoln’s character and early years before trailblazing over most of the Civil War to get to the climax. The second to third act transition completely loses the viewer and it’s muddled with exposition attempting to bridge act 1 and 3. In short, the middle of the movie is extremely boring. It’s as if he starts to explain what happens and then goes, “So the Civil War begins and yadda yadda, Abraham Lincoln is President now.”

And while the character development and screenplay are a complete mess, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, at times, is an incredibly interesting movie. The flick features some brilliant CGI work, incredible choreography, and even the vampires look dope. The fight scenes, while far and few between, are edge-of-your-seat exciting; the vampires are fierce, vicious and look terrifying (even though it’s all CG); and the finale is absolutely mind-blowing. If there were one reason to see this in fake, post-converted 3-D, it would be to see the epic battle sequel on the flaming train (as teased in the trailers and posters).

(Speaking of the 3-D, the cinematography was either garbage or Bekmambetov decided to turn up the contrast so the 3-D wouldn’t look so dark (a regular complaint along viewers). The entire film was blown out, so much so that I had to ask a Fox rep if we were watching the finished film (we were). Saying it looked terrible is an understatement.)

In the end, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is kind of fun, but wholly forgettable. It’s the kind of movie you see just to get out of the brutal summer heat by enjoying the theater’s cool air conditioning. By the time you leave the cinema you’ll be more concerned with finding the next air-conditioned establishment than talking about what you just saw. In fact, when your parents ask you what you did today, odds are you won’t even remember that you saw it.

TV: ‘T2′ Star Robert Patrick Lands Fatherly Role In ‘True Blood’

robert patrick 1024x313 TV: T2 Star Robert Patrick Lands Fatherly Role In True Blood

The Alan Ball vampire drama “True Blood” has enlisted Terminator 2 star Robert Patrick for a recurring guest role as Alcide’s father Jackson Herveaux, THR reports.

Patrick will first appear in a flashback episode that depicts Alcide (Joe Manganiello) and Debbie Pelt (Brit Morgan) as teenagers in the 1980s. At the time, Jackson was said to be a “powerful, inspiring and heroic” guy, but in the present, he’s given up on life.

Jackson, as a way to repay his father’s debt to Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), also stands as the reason that Alcide first agreed to help Sookie (Anna Paquin) search for Bill (Stephen Moyer) during Season 3.

He’s scheduled to make his debut in Episode 9, slated to air Aug. 5 and titled “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”

“True Blood” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO. Last Resort debuts in the fall on ABC.

The Strain is an adaptation based on a novel of the same name, one of a trilogy penned by the infamous Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. The book twists the conventional tale of vampires into a genius piece of horrific science fiction, with the concept of vampirism as a plague of sorts. David Lapham offers a wonderful adaptation of the story while Mike Huddleston brings some chilling art to the table.
