R.I.P. Andy Johns, Engineer/Producer For Led Zeppelin And Rolling Stones, Passes Away At 61

Sad news has emerged from the music world as famed producer/engineer Andy Johns passed away on Sunday at age 61. According to guitarist Stacey Blades, who was collaborating on a project with Johns, the producer had entered the hospital 10 days ago and that his health wasn’t doing so well over the past six months.

Johns was the engineer for many of Led Zeppelin‘s biggest albums, including Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin IV, Houses Of The Holy, and Physical Graffiti. He produced Van Halen‘s For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and two albums from guitar legend Joe Satriani. Johns also engineered the Rolling Stones albums Goats Head Soup, Sticky Fingers, and Out Of Our Heads.

Johns is survived by his wife and two children.

We offer our deepest condolences to his family, his friends, and the vast amount of musicians and industry folk who knew and worked with him. READ MORE

Things Are Strangely Erotic In Heaven And Earth’s “No Money, No Love” Official Music Video

Modern classic hard rock band Heaven & Earth have released an official music video for “No Money, No Love”. Directed by photographer Glen Wexler (Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Michael Jackson), the video is a visual smorgasbord of midgets, magicians, prostitutes, and more, all within an old Hotel.

Heaven & Earth’s debut album, Dig, will be released April 23rd. It was produced by Dave Jenkins (Metallica, Tower Of Power) and features special guests Howard Leese (Heart, Paul Rodgers), Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), and David Paich (Toto).

Discussing Dig, founder Stuart Smith states, “I feel that with the crafting of the songs on this album, the incredible band we’ve put together, especially with powerhouse vocalist Joe Retta and the unwavering support of Quarto Valley Records’ President, Bruce Quarto, we really have a shot at getting Heaven & Earth the attention it deserves. This album is by far, the best thing I have ever done in my life.”

[Random Cool] Can You Guess All The Guitarists?

Artist Maxim Dalton painted a poster of 35 of the greatest guitar players ever. While it doesn’t include some famous axe wielders (I don’t see Dimebag Darrell on there), it is a pretty comprehensive painting of guitarists who have shaped and influenced their genres. The painting was released as a limited edition poster but sold out long ago.

But what I want to know is can you identify them all! So head on below to test yourself on your guitar player knowledge! READ MORE

Van Halen’s New Music Video For ‘She’s The Woman’ Is Awful

Van Halen has released a video for She’s The Woman and, wow, it sucks. I don’t know who they’ve been getting to storyboard and direct these videos, but that person needs to be fired immediately. Watching David Lee Roth forget which lines to lip-sync to or putting the wrong drum section during a passage is somewhat unbearable. Seriously, when you watch the video (if you choose to do so, of course), you can see that the drums don’t match up at certain points. You’ll hear the snare but you won’t see the snare hit until a beat or two later. Ugh…. If you want to watch the amateur hour, it’s below.

[Review] Van Halen ‘A Different Kind Of Truth’

[Review] Van Halen A Different Kind Of Truth

In 1984, after releasing and touring in support of their album “1984” (review), the biggest hard rock band of all time, Van Halen, parted ways with lead singer David Lee Roth. Only two years later, they hired a new frontman named Sammy Hagar. The general consensus is that it was a pretty bad move, and ended up causing the band to sound like the one thing that you could NEVER call them during the David Lee Roth era, bland. Flash forward to 1998. Having now parted ways with Hagar, the band hired and recorded an album with their third lead singer, Gary Cherone. This proved to be a devastating move for the band, as the album received negative reviews from fans and critics alike, as well as poor album and ticket sales. Now flash forward to present day. It is 2012, and after 28 years of drama and bad decisions, the original Van Halen lineup (sans bassist Michael Anthony), has released a new studio album, “A Different Kind Of Truth“. Now the only question left is, has it been worth the wait? READ MORE

[Retro Review] Van Halen ’1984′

 [Retro Review] Van Halen 1984

Ah, 1984, the year I was born in. The year that the Apple Macintosh came out. A year that has become synonymous with dystopian society. It was also the year that Van Halen’s iconic album 1984 came out. While the sixth studio album was a departure from their recognized sound, many critics lauded the album and its exciting foray into new territory. It would also be the last album the band recorded with vocalist David Lee Roth (until this years A Different Kind Of Truth). But does this album still have the same punch as it did nearly three decades ago? Or has age worn this beast down? READ MORE

Van Halen Release New Single ‘Tattoo’: It Kinda Sucks

Van Halen Release New Single Tattoo: It Kinda Sucks
Van Halen have released Tattoo, the first single from their upcoming album A Different Kind Of Truth, which comes out Feb. 7th. You can check out the official video below. Problem is, the song kinda sucks. No, scratch that. It really sucks. Even if you took out the poorly synced video, the fact that it looks like David Lee Roth keeps forgetting his lines, and the “we’re gonna shoot in black and white for the sake of looking artistic even though NOTHING ARTISTIC IS HAPPENING” look, the song is just plain boring. There is no spice or pizazz. There is no excitement. It’s just a generic rock song that is destined to go in one ear and out the other. Honestly, even though I listened to it just a few minutes ago, I’ve already forgotten the melodies.
Check it out below and, if for some reason you still feel so inclined, you can preorder the album on iTunes.

Steve Miller Band to Release First Album in 17 Years

Okay, so this doesn’t fit in with the standard genres that we here at Bloody-Disgusting usually cover. However, I love me some Steve Miller Band and when I karaoke, I will proudly go up and sing ‘Abracadabra’.
